Memory and some strange game where apples of 2 different colors would "roll" over a band and you had to fit them in the corresponding colored basket. I dont even know on what platform it had a green/black display.

Then "real" games Atari ST:
Bubble Bobble
Ascot
Rod Land

Later on a PC:
Centurion
King's Bounty which I spent hours and hours upon

Now I feel old

Lode runner, at my older brother's friend's house. It took me forever to find out the name of it after all this time searching descriptions of the game into google until I found it. Pretty amazing game which I now play when I need to refill on nostalgia.

I forget, a first person RPG type game that I think started with a U.
But after that it was Eye of the Beholder.

First game I ever played probably has to be either 3D Dinosaur or Space Invaders.

Or was it Q-Bert, or some sort of Mickey Mouse game, or... Damn, I played a lot of different video games back then.

Hard to recall which one came first.

As I was a victim of the 90's born generation I missed a bunch of cool games from earlier periods. We only had the one PC in the house (My dad's work PC) until he got us a box with a bunch of DOS games on it.

So I guess my first classics were Commander Keen, Major Stryker (I think spelt like that) Skunny Cart, Duke 3D, Duke 2D, Galactix, all that good stuff.

Then I put Starcraft on my refurbished '98 PC I was given and sort of never deviated from that, D2 and WC3 haha - good times indeed. And now I'm just moving into the next gen of games with SC2. Man I'm boring.
Just a simple guy, going wherever this journey takes me.

Way way way ahead of its time in 1999. Unfortunately the advertising for this game was horrible and the game only broke even. Hence no Freespace 6 today.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert or The Secret of Monkey Island, not sure which came first, but those are the only two early games I've played worthy of mention.

Lode Runner and Choplifter on an old Apple II, at the age of 6 or 7. Later on, played a lot of Red Baron, Bane of the Cosmic Forge, original Heroes of Might and Magic, and Dune II. Then Warcraft 2, original Command and Conquer, and a ton of Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. I am old.

Computergame? Does that include console games? I think my first video game was Super Mario Bros on the NES. I remember playing it until around 11pm when i was 5 or 6 and i got in big trouble for it.

On a computer, i think it was some skiing game on the original macintosh computer. It was pretty simple but i remember it being very addictive.

My first real PC game that i played was Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, but not the actual game, just the demo. :D I used to spend hours chopping down every tree on the first mission.

Around that time i also got a sega mega drive and Alex the Kidd was the first game i played on that. Great times.

Sonic the Hedgehog - Sega Master System.

LOL @ the NES soccer game comment about Japan in the finals. It's little memories like that, which don't really mean anything outside of your own little childhood experience, that make playing old school games as a kid awesome.

But aside from that, my first "game" of a computer game would be SC/SC:BW =)

Either Sim City 2000 or Heroes of Might and Magic II.
I still play the latter once in a while if I need a massive time sink.

woot,
how am I the first to mention hearts/solitaire/minesweeper out of all the people who grew up with a windows pc.
Unless everyone just ignored them cause you didnt buy them.
I at least strongly assume those were my first games.
Other than that some old ones I remember were Commander Keen, Might&Magic 3.. Betrayal at Krondor.. theres definitely some older ones I've forgotten about.

On PC the first game I played was probably Diablo 2.

On consoles, my first one was a Super Nintendo and the game was either Super Mario World or Donkey Kong Country 2.

On my first own computer, an i486, it was Mortal Kombat I think and then Street Fighter. I had played Commander Keen & Stunts(old racing game) on my uncle's i386 before though. Or was that later? Can't quite remember... =/

Either way, those were my first computer games and they were all awesome. I also remember playing Crime(predecessor of the GTA series you could say) and Jazz Jack Rabbit. Awesome too.

Edit: OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT!! Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Dune, and Prince of Persia. And there are so many more I can't remember right now. Ahh... Good old times...

Edit2: Even earlier than all the above, I played Sonic the Hedgehog on a Sega Master System II with my father! Such a good game... You couldn't save, no checkpoints, nothing! My father once beat the final boss, or at least made it to him and we were so happy & proud.

My first pc game might have been Oregon Trail or Myst. perhaps something else? I do not recall.

I have no idea what my first console game was. It had to be an Atari 2600 game though.

Holy shit!
My first two games were on huge floppy discs and played on DOS.

First was Gorillas!

Game where you shoot bananas at the other gorilla and adjust velocity/angle. Game was so fucking good.

Second was Nibbles!

Basically a game like snake where you eat shit and try not to hit walls.

Anyone else remember these gems?

Or at least, I played about five second of Doom before having to turn it off because I knew I was going to have nightmares..

First games ever were console games on the Atari 2600 that I got from my uncle. I got it with a bunch of games so I have a few that could be considered my first games.
Missile Command

Asteroids

Summer Games. (god this one made you go berserk on your joystick)

I also had a pistol controller and you could shoot a white square that was movie across the TV. That one was awesome but I don't remember a name or anything.

First PC game was Virtua Fighter 2

I'm not kidding.

I also played a lot of learning games, Animal Racers (the original Mario Kart for PC), and Humans, the best puzzler ever.

Oh man... I remember a bunch from way back when.

Oregon Trail... any number of other Apple IIe games.

Help me remember this one... you're a little guy running around (it's all ascii art) and you can pick up whips, and it'll clear 'grass' or 'trees' around you, and the object is something like, run around to get the gems, don't die from the enemies that're chasing you, then get to the exit. It had like two sequels.

GOD, it's bothersome that I can't remember the name of it.

If anyone can help me remember (I think this was on a large floppy), it would require you put in a password or something before you played. I'm trying to remember if the title had a male-name in it, but all I can remember is a scene where there is a rocketship and a trench. Very old (late 80's / early 90's). When loading the game, it would just be a black background and text before you entered the password. Nostalgia is killing me! :[

Dr. Brain and Torin's Passage are the first games I remember playing/beating. I actually tried TP again fairly recently for nostalgic reasons but it's too infuriatingly slow.

DOOM!

All six games were on sale recently on Steam and surprisingly enough playing through the first game again I found a secret door to finish one level, and ended up playing a level I had never played before! Amazing how 20 years later a game that old can still offer something new to a veteran gamer.

PC- Tetris yo. (Win 3.0) Actually, I think before that there was an old DOS skiing game- essentially a dot that fell down the screen, which you had to avoid the 'trees.' Think it was designed to be one line (really long) of code or something.

Console- Duck Hunt or else one of those Atari TV console games.

First computer game I ever played was Doom, at age 5

Of course I played it at my friend's house, my parents wouldn't have approved. But I honestly think something like that is good for a child XD

Age of Empires 2!!! God I'm a newb compared to some of you vets! But yeah AoE introduced me to the RTS genre and no other genre has ever given me as much satisfaction. Shooters like Quake and stuff always paled in comparison to the likes of Brood War (Yeah I jumped on the train late :D heard some guys talking about it in game chat and I was like 8 so I was clueless ahhh the memories)

Probably something like Bubble Bobble for Atari among the first games I played. On PC it is much harder to recall since there are so many it could have been in the DOS/Mac era.

Lotus 3: The Ultimate Challenge, some Aladdin game for DOS, and Doom. I watched my brother play both Lotus and Doom. I also watched him play Dangerous Dave, Commander Keen, and Quake.

Then later it was Age of Empires (also watched my brother play that) Duke 3d, and Shadow Warrior. The first game I played for myself was Age of Empires 2. Played in RTS League eventually, and I was really sad when Zone closed down and the scene started dying.

Age 2=best team RTS ever, IMO. SC's team balance is crap, and it's honestly not that cool. Age of Empires 2 was sooo awesome for 3v3s. Just amazing. Balance was simple, because most teams would be mirrored, like Hun/Mongol/Brit or Hun/Mongol/something, and everything came down to tactics and skill. I have some awesome memories. On water maps the fights would be even more interesting. Nothing like galley rush wars and then sneaking a beachhead castle :D

Pong was my first, Right after the game Tank was released by Atari. Mostly remember Gorf and arcade Galaga later on after that. And (Vic 20's) Jupitor Lander was a favorite.

One of the really old versions of simcity was the first pc game for me. One of my cousin was the only person I knew who owned a pc back then so all my cousins fight over to play that and snes whenever we were at his place. I was the youngest one though so I hardly ever got to play. One time I FINALLY got to play and one of my cousins was just backseat playing and tried to take over. I got really upset (aka cried like a bitch) and eventually they stopped bothering me

Also warcraft 2. We only knew like 2 cheat codes in the game ("glittering gold" [extra money] and "make it so" [build buildings super fast]) so it was a bitch to play the campaign. Our idea of strategy involved typing out glittering gold 5x (no copy and paste) with our 20 wpm and we try to "barrack rush" the computer. Basically we sneak a peon right outside of the cpu's base, build a barrack and pray that it doesn't get destroyed before it finishes building. From then on we can just rally units from that one barracks and hopefully win. That shit was hard, I used to watch my cousin try to build that barracks for like 20 minutes with no success lol.

Depends on how you define computer game. First game was some MSDOS learning game. Then came some lame schoolgames, but oregon trail was fun.

Those tank and skiing games for windows 95 were so fun though. Still atre lol.

looked like this except was in black and white.

The Apple IIs we had at elementary school and played in computer class. Had the black and white Macintosh at home.

Back when a 486 was a pc for a boss. I use to play that shit for hours even though i could never beat the game. I was only like 7 years old or something.

First computer game I can remember playing was Digger on my uncle's old IBM computer. I don't even remember how old I was when I played it I was so young but I distinctly remember it was the first I played.

The first games I "owned" were like ones that came with my family's first computer. G-Police was the first game that I played when we got it. Redline Racer also came with our PC, remember that game distinctly.

The first PC game was either Sokoban, Leisure Suit Larry or Battle Chess on my uncles PC.

Fond memories haha, and quite a while before I actually got anything real and that didn't come with it.

For some reason my old PC had a bunch of games loaded on it:
Battleships
Metal Fatigue (random rts)
Carmageddon
Army Men games
Silver (old action rpg)
Tomb Raider

and a whole bunch of others I can't remember. Fond childhood memories haha, thanks for making me remember. :p

First one was Pong. It was one of those boxes that just had pong on it and you had to hook it on your tv. Then it had these rotatating buttons to move your uuh...pong-racket around. Good days good days.

Real console it was Super Mario on the NES

After that was Asheron's Call (Darktide Server) -> then Runescape -> then WoW... etc

First game would be Space Invaders. There was one of these machines in a fish & chip shop in the centre of town 15-20 years ago.

First console game would be some sort of game on an Atari, but the one I remember is super Mario 64.

First computer game would be Age of Empires, closely followed by Brood War. (I started playing PC games late)

I have two early memories of gaming. Other one is playing commander keen with this badass keypad on my cousins computer & the other one is that motorcycle game where you throw stuff at the other driver on a macintosh at my neighbours house. Can't remember the name but it's somewhere in the other game thread.

Well, my first was either Striker (very old dos helicopter game) or the original dig dug on these old computers in second grade. The first game I actually loved and remember was Conquests of the Longbow.

Age of Empires, got the CD out of a box of cereal. All I did was vs like 4 computers at once, spam cheats and steamroll them then feel like a boss. I was mainly a console kiddie though playing games like GoldenEye and SSB.

JKDF2 Remains one of my favorite games of all time.

There was a game I played many years ago, perhaps 12-13, that I have forgotten the name to. You flew around in a spaceship as if you were the pilot. It was a kids game. And you were looking for something or another and you went to many different places. But it had like this real deep story. I can only offer this pretty vague description.

I want to say you had a rabbit as a friend? And you were searching for a girl, perhaps your sister? Might have been an educational game too...

Very first?...omg hard to say my first comp had 120mb of hard drive space lol, I mostly only had demo's as a kid and had to learn everything by myself over the years.

It could be Syndicate, Diablo, Worms 1/2, 7th legion, hard to say.

The first computer game for PC I can remember is Bundesliga Manager Professional, which I played on a 286 with a 30MB HDD. :-) There is also a Freeware version in English called "the Manager" available for download here.

My first "console" was a Sega GameGear if I recall correctly with some Sonic the Hedgehog title. I cannot remember though which game was the first I ever played (prolly at a friend's house).

Super Mario Bros. back in 1986-1987. For computer it was almost definitely some random edutainment game at school.

First favorite game? Has to be Lego Chess or Age of Empires 2. I remember Lego Chess playing this cool animations when you'd take a unit, and building these massive fortresses on AoE2 :D.

I don't know

I was 4 years old and we would borrow C64 from a friend and play some retarded athletic game. At the same time, we would rent SEGA from the local videostore and play Lotus.

Then we bought Amiga 500 and i loved Little Apple Nicklebaum, or something with that name where you would throw apples at your enemies. I would watch my brothers play SWOS (Sensible World of Soccer) or Dune.

Ok, I think I will beat you guys. I mean of that's considered as a game... I've played the first game created and shipped to mass public. I mean the first one ever.

Anyone remember pong? I think it was called pong. The black and white tennis, where you and your friend were bouncing the square ball... actually, you know what? It'll be simpler like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pong

anyone played that before anything else?

Awesome dude, those two where my first games aswell.
Abit after the next games of mine where:

Pango - awesome game. tried some days ago in dosbox, fun and still a challenge.
Q-bert
PAC-man (green backround) cant find pictures of it.
Civilization 1 - used to play this alot as a 6 year old. Couldnt figure it out how to build a settlement, so I just moved around with the settler discovering the land and getting units of the houses. Was really fun, then the epic moments of gaining a city from diplomacy issues from enemies (happened like once in 50 games after waiting FOREVER) those were kicks and really fun.

was wondering if someone could help me find some old games:

First games were in black and white on a philips p2000:

http://www.computermuseum-muenchen.de/computer/philips/p2000t.html

Which had a 16K memory cartridge and little tapes with programs on it.

I had some dutch games like:

ladders and adders (ladders and vipers)
Schaapjes tellen (counting sheep)
Ancalagon (sort rpg with lotr-like creatures)
and some other stuff.

After that a Philips Yes computer with lode runner(?) and other games:
http://www.computermuseum-muenchen.de/computer/philips/yes.html

then 100s of DOS-games on 286/386's, etc.

My very first game was Pong, which I played at my uncle

Our first computer at home was a C64, followed up by many others. I really can't recall my first game ever played on the C64, even though my favorite C64 game of all times would be Labyrinth (based on the movie Labyrinth).

Our first actual PC was an IBM PS/2 286 :D I think the very first game I played on there was STUNTS (the racing game). Prince of Persia was really popular those days as well, and I personally liked Stellar 7 & Prehistoric Man (lol) a lot too. The 2 best games I've played on that machine, but came out a bit later I think, were definitely Wolfenstein 3D & Civilization.

Some honorable mentions that didn't fit in my little story here: Dune 2 (Amiga), WarCraft 1 multiplayer through crosslink cable :D
It has a strong technique, but it lacks oo.

NES: (From age of 5 to 8 maybe) Super Mario Brothers
Gameboy Colour: (Age of 7 to 11-12) Pokemon blue
Nintendo 64: (age of 8 to 13) Mario 64
PC: (Age of 9 and til today) Warcraft 2 or diablo 1

The note within the parentheses is the perdiod I used the playing medium.

Prince of Persia and Lemmings were the first two computer games i played, in '91 i think it was, can't remember which was first though (pop was hard as hell man :D )

then i started 'real' gaming with Mario, Duck Hunt, Mahjong et. al. on a NES i got from germany in '93

during these times ('92'ish onward) i'd usually go with whatever allowance money i had and play Golden Axe on this sega machine that was in some bar in my grandparents' town, hella good times getting made fun of by the random drunks in there while trying to own it up with the dwarf or chick while my friend that used to come with me and dualplay when we had some spare coins was trying to get in on my action ^^

ps: Lemmings video:

Well, good question. First videogame I played was on PC (when I was 2-3), and it was mario-like (or so I remember. People who I've asked about it said the same thing, however nobody seems to remember the name at all *sadface*). (And yes, the only thing I remember from me being 2-5 years old was that video game. Innit kind of sad?). First Console game I think was Dino Crisis (the 2nd one on PS1). (yeah I kind of skipped the whole Nintendo nonsense, didn't attract me much).

First game I remember playing was something metal sluggish on sega, can't remember exact game =( (played it while my parents were buying his NES!)

First PC game... I honestly can't remember... Wonder if it was Boston Bomb Club or The Incredible Machine... I just remember I had to go into dos to play it, and my parents thought I had broken the computer first time they saw me navigating in dos =)

(sorry for the sound, but to my memory, it was even worse on my computer)

Oddly enough, I also remember that my 3rd windows game was Worms 2, I remember it clearly because I had 2 games installed, and I asked nicely if I could uninstall one of them to install a new one... =)

But the first computer game I bought (age:10) and played the hell out of was NOX.

Lemmings of course (how could i forget), Bundesliga Manager, Stunts (greatest racing game of all time xD, a little bit like trackmania hehe)
Also I just barely remember playing that Gorilla dos game
I also played a lot of text adventures
some games in a later era were colonization, and the good old adventure games, indiana jones4, monkey island, Days of Tentacle, Pirates! Pirates was amazing :p

"Technically" was some bernstein bears learning game.

I can't believe nobody played any of the "learn your abc's" games as their first. Did you guys not get computers until you were like 12+? My family had one when i was 2 or 4 or something, can't quite remember.

Pac man, Paratrooper, Tetris and Space Invaders were all on my first computer (a 386). As far as I can remember, they were the first games I ever played.

I later played a lot of NES games. Warcraft 1 and Doom were also some of the earlier games I played once I got a better computer that could handle them.

Actually, what I remember most is my father being all "stop playing this stupid game, go read a book or something" and then him staying up late at night to pew pew some ducks.

It was one of these:
Mario Teaches Typing
Lemmings
Oregon Trail

But soon after came my pride and joy, SC:BW, I started playing it somewhere between 2000 and 2002 (which at the time would make me between 6 and 8)

- Master of Orion 2
- Total Annihilation
- Mystic Arts

EDIT: I googled Mystic Arts for the music, finally saw something about the game. Was a post in a different topic on TL with the same meaning. It was my post -.-'

Lemmings. Unless the Atari XE counts, in which case, it was Missile Command. Man, what a piece of junk Atari XE was, or at least the joysticks were. It kind of takes the fun away from playing when the button only works half the time. You young people with your gamepads and your motion sensoring, you couldn't possibly understand our pain.

First game period was some sort of kiddie game when I was like three or something, I forget exactly what.

First real game was I think one of the original Pokemon games for the game boy- I think it was Pokemon red? And then the first game that I got really into and cared about improving in was actually the original Starcraft back when I was about 8 or 9.

Pretty sure it was Bride of Frankenstein on my cousin's C64. All I remember of the game is some room and some stairs and some highly pixellated people running around, but then again, I imagine I was somewhere around 3 or 4 years at the time, and my memory's always been terrible.

Here's a pic, for you pic-loving people.

I played tons of awesome games on the c64.

For PC it was Civilization I.
For console, I don't remember if we got NES or Gameboy first, but it was probably Super Mario or Tetris.

First game was Brick and Bat. My Dad's work computer (so old it didn't have a colour screen) had some windows clone of Breakout.

Probably some other ones I used to play as a kid, but I can't really remember them as much as that one.

First videogame was either Ghostbusters or Sonic 1 for Genesis.
First PC game was Super Munchers! Oh how I love that game! We played it in our computer class.

Another classic that I haven't seen in here yet is X-Wing! I can see it's not a game you'd start playing as a first game ever, but what an awesome game! The X-Wing series are best space simulator games I've ever seen. (X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance etc.). If they'd make a new up-to-date game like that I'd buy it right away.

Definitely needed a joystick for best gameplay & optimal playing pleasure. The games had some awesome missions, great gameplay, a good skill ceiling and it definitely caught the real Star Wars vibe

I think my first computer game was either Starcraft or Diablo. I remember Starcraft the most vividly, I think I started playing when I was 7 or 8. Then again those where the only two games we really had on our computer at the time lol. Good days.

God damn. I remember seeing that thing in the scholastic magazines and really wanting it. Seeing it again fills a hole I didn't know was empty. Wow.

I guess my first was Sim City 2000 (Released 1993). That game fucking rocked. I just wish any of the games after it could have lived up to it's glory. Oh well

My first online game, logging on to AOL and trying out Warcraft II where my army of a grunt, axe thrower and deathknight were over run by more bloodlusted ogres than I ever thought possible. I could have sworn the guy was cheating. When I found out he wasn't, I would make that crucial decision to swear off of using cheat codes on any game in the future, as I didn't know how to play without them.

Yes! Played that thing for infinity time!

I never understood how the main villain (guy with the prison suit I believe?) would be triggered by the storyline.

My first computer game was Chip's Challenge, and it was glorious. My friends and I would always hang out when our parents would go to each others houses for parties etc., and we would always try to get further in Chip's Challenge by figuring out the puzzles. Last I remember we were at about 128.

Pod(?) on an old Apple II or some such? He was a big red blob and you had to complete the sentence for what you wanted him to do, ie. "Pod can jump" etc. I'm not sure of the name. Also a terrible game called "Goldfields", maybe someone in Australia knows what I'm talking about; I never got through the cave to the treasure, kept getting flash flooded

Chip's Challenge comes to mind, I think I played it on a Commodore 64 set up in a department store.

Starcraft was in fact my first computer game, before that I was a pure console gamer. not that at the age of ten you really have the capacity to pick. We just happened to get a computer and Starcraft with it. Ten years later and I am running a website for it.

I believe it was Age of Empires 2, though it might have been Warcraft 2, not quite sure. First console game was Super Mario 64 I think. I had a gameboy before that though so the very first game might have been something like tetris, I don't remember the first gameboy game I played but i specifically remember being terrible at tetris.

Btw, did anyone ever play an rts in which the units were all or mostly just different types of tanks? its probably from sometime between 1999-2001. It's just cuz I saw my brother's friend play it once and I thought it looked awesome. I've been trying to find it's name since 2001 to no avail and this seems like a good time to ask.

Age of Empires II. A friend of mine had that game, and I'd barely ever played any games before (maybe a couple genesis games over a cousin's house), then I was floored by AoE2. I eventually (after we got dial-up), downloaded the demo, on the same night that we went to see fellowship of the ring in the theatre.

I eventually bought the game, and have been a gamer since

As for a game to play that I actually got on my home computer, Prince of Persia.

The first game I really enjoyed and still would like to play today is Richard & Alan's Escape from Hell (http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/escape.htm). It was an awesome game with really good research about all the historical characters involved. If a remake was made with up-to-date graphics, I would buy it.

You can download it here: http://www.classic-pc-games.com/pc/role_playing/escape_from_hell.html

Mine was actually Age of Empires 2. Fell in love with it at a buddies house and HAD to have it.. I spent hours and hours just playing against the computer and making maps.

Although this thread is 22 pages deep and probably many more to come with no one reading the replies, I'll reply anyways.

These games were before windows. DOS based games.
Archery, Bouncing Babies, some other crap games I can't remember.

my first real computer game was Capt. Comic

Oh well

Haha i had that one on demo. Only one Map yet i played it for forever. Awesome game really

The Secret Island of Dr. Quandary

I used to think this game was kind of scary when I was like 5 haha.

holy shit i remember that game in sixth grade, kids were always playing it before class started but I was always too late to ever play it.

Damn I remember another game where you were this dude inside a computer or something with microchips and circuits all over and it was a platformer game and I think the main character was a magnet or had a magnet on his head? magnet man?

Anyone have any idea what this game i'm describing is called?

Strange, I know this game under a different name. It's called Athletic Land and was developed by Konami for the MSX.

The first game I can remember playing was Pong on one of these (or at least the Dutch equivilent, I think it was called the Philips P2000 or something).

Jumpman.
A fantastic early PC game in the vein of donkey kong, but slightly more fleshed out in level design (IMO IMO IMO)

In this picture you are the red/white thingie... You have to collect all the red thingies to progress. You could set the levels to go in numerical order or randomize. Pretty sure there were enemies to avoid by running away.

Oh, reading the wiki I remember all the other stuff too.. some levels had you building ladders, some had pieces of the level that would only reveal themselves when you get more red thingies.. etc. very fun.

I'm not sure what the name of the game is but it was a game where you have a tank and shoot at other tanks in turns. It was around 1993 when my family our first computer. One of the original PC games I think.

Venture Capital is better off spent on lottery tickets rather than investing in E-Sports; you'll get a far better return. The difference is simple: Koreans are tryharding at the game, foreigners are tryharding in real-life.

Dude! That's awesome because I know exactly what you are talking about, I don't remember if it was my first game but it was absolutely ridiculous looking back on it. My gaming killer instincts all started with explosive bananas :D

First game I ever played I THINK (can't remember that far back) was a game on an old Atari.

After that, the first game I remember playing was Wing Commander in 1990. I was 6? Yeah, Six years old.

Then it was DOOM, DOOM II, Dark Forces, and then came the RTS's.

A Tiger game 'computer' With 'Mega Man' on it. would have been around ... 89, 90.
Then followed a Macintosh SE in 1991 with Tetris and a delightful little game called Shufflepuck (airhockey). I reduced the mouseball to its core within the year.

Street Fighter 2 on PC, back in the floppy days.

Game was buggy as hell, ex. you could jump as Dhalsim, Yoga Flame, jump, Yoga Flame, and so on until you jump off screen and couldnt be seen. If you go far enough you can crash the game.

It was great.

console, Super Mario 64.
PC, (or rather mac) one of the following mac brick out, solitaire, a game called stardust, and one where you were a rabbit collecting carrots and you had to drop boulders on enemies, and i think you could dig through dirt (if anyone could name this, it would be appreciated.) I had them all on the computer when I first used it.

My first PC game was pictionary on a floppy disc, on my old Macintosh computer. When I got dial-up, I upgraded to MUD games.

I notice a lot of people are confusing console games with computer games in this thread but:

For me I think it was
Astroid, cosmo, sim city 2000, oregon trail, odell's, logical journey of the zoombini's, midnight rescue, missle command, minesweeper
Then I upgraded when my dad's best friend in college's son introduced me to doom/wc2

Then I got wc1-2, jazz jack rabbit, lego island

first computer game........

I remember playing this one game on a really really really old computer with Atari-like graphics. It was a mac/ibm computer I can't remember well. The mouse had 1 button and the arrow keys were laid out as <- V ^ -> ( like on a DDR screen) and the game was about this farmer, his pig, and an apple? it's been a while.
I never actually got to play SCBW until like 2009 or so

First ever game I played was Doom when I was 5. My Dad would hook up two pc's via some oldschool direct serial cable and we'd play cooperative mode like every night.... eventually by age 7 I was making my own levels with some complex level edited and having sleepovers with friends where we'd have marathon doom fests, I can't believe my parents allowed that we were SO young....lmfao.

guess it corrupted me for life. T_T

First game: Solitaire/Pinball and all those Microsoft goodies. First online: Club Penguin.
I think I played a soccer game, can't remember much, except that it was in English and that its graphics were pretty good in for its time. (2002-2003ish) I was only a 4-year old CHinese boy so what do I remember?

My father's computer came with a few games, including Commander Keen, Joe & Mac, and some Mickey Mouse goes to the Supermarket game. At least, I think they came with the laptop; I can't imagine my dad buying/downloading these games O_O.

In any case, there's also another game that I can't find the name of. Can anyone see if they might know it?

It's a side-scroller in a very metallic setting. You played sort of a robocop character, or it may just have been a robot all together. You could small laser bursts from your gun. As far as I can remember, the only enemies were turrets. I think the turrets had twin barrels. Oh, and you could collect "batteries," which I believe replenished your health.

P.S. If you know the Mickey Mouse Supermarket game...can you tell me the exact name too? Haha.

my first one was on one of those classic "Thousand and One great games" collections. I don't remember which one of them I played first, or even the title of the collection, but I remember it had no autoplay, meaning you just went to Windows Explorer and searched for the .exe of the game you wanted, and I remember it having a Capture the Flag RTS, a Missile Command knockoff, a third person Firefighting game, and some kind of sidescrolling flying game.

Basically a game like snake where you eat shit and try not to hit walls.

For computer the earliest games i remember playing was like Simcity2000/Mechwarrior3/AoE/HoMM3/SC

Didnt get a computer till i was like 10-12 or something. Played other games on SNES way b4 but i probably litterally played 200 different games on that system so i actually remember very few.

OH! Donkeykong2 was damn fun...actually i wanna play that now i could never get past the part with the lava levels... or something like that. NHl94 yo. Diablo on the PS. Man i should think more on this it might be kinda fun, theres just so much im not remembering right now.

Damn i used to be a little gamer, now i get to fucking bored too fucking easily.

This thread is nothing if not nostalgic.

Played it on 5.25 inch floppy disk on my Tandy 3000
You'd have to put the MS-Dos disk in first when you turn on the comp, so Dos would load and then you'd switch to the game disk

Atari personal computer. Not the console atari, an atari computer that we had inherited from my grandfather.

The game was mousequest. 'z' and 'x' to move right and left. 'shift' to jump. man, brings back so many memories!

Oh man, this thread takes me back lol.

I'm sure I played others before, but the first computer game I remember playing is Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold. It was an awesome FPS that came out before Doom iirc. I think I was about 5.

Other games I was really into at around that age: Doom, Wolfenstein, Syndicate, Duke Nukem vanilla, King's Quest V and VI, and Kyrandia.

Fuk me, I can clearly remember my first video game ever (obv super mario bros), but for pc ? I can't.
I just remember that i didn't have any computer in my home and played to my father's friend computer.
Either it's doom, alone in the dark, prince of persia, one must fall 2097 or sim city.
I was probably like 6.
I'm not kidding, really liked the doom one, but not indark, it scared the shit out of me.
There was also a click & point game : indiana jones and the last crusade.
But seriously can't remember which one was first, even warcraft 1 came later.

Edit : oh and F1GP... Gah. I really don't remember the first one. Probably PoP since it seems like the oldest of all.
Edit 2 : oh and Commanche... and FlashBack, arrrrrrrrgh...

Fuk that. Let's say PoP, end of story. Thank for the nostalgia !

It was probably pacman. Later came shokoban, arkanoid and the later Mother Goose and Larry 1.

I do remember games other people mentioned like Alley Cat. What about Paratrooper? Didn't see anyone mention that game.

Actually, now that I think about it, the first game that I saw may have been a simple .bat script that created two walls where you controlled a triangle (space ship) trying to avoid both walls.

My first game was A-10 Tank Killer which came on 2 of the 5 1/2 inch floppy disks. I was too young to understand how the game worked, but it was badass. My Dad would pilot and tell me when to shoot. Mass destruction...bringing families together since 1994 (well my family at least)

I am pretty sure that it was either Super Mario on the Gameboy, or a racing game called "gpega". Googling that reveals that it seems to be actually called "Grand Prix Circuit". I also remember that at that point, i was not very good at that game. For example, i could see no reason to ever use the brakes, since obviously, i was driving a race, and thus i should be fast. Braking makes you slower, so no point in doing that.

Prince of Persia, not the new ones, the first one. Goddamn that thing was hard: 60 minutes to complete the whole frigging 13 levels, insta-death traps everywhere, a shadow clone of you that can kill you but if you kill it you die, oh god the frustration, but good times nonetheless.

Me and my brother used to play it a ton. We were probably terrible.

Think I played mostly Lode Runner until the release of the Age of Empires-demo which took control over my life.

Some Snake implementation on a 8086, I believe.
I'm apparently very old I also remember getting Pacman and Digdug and distinctly that
Qbasic came with a reference implementation of some gorillas throwing explodable bananas at each other, but that was much later.

The first games I played were oregon trail and some maze math game that they had at school.

I got my first home computer in 6th grade, and that year of my life was dominated by C&C red alert 2, downloading porn off kazaa, and trolling aol chat rooms trying to get pics of girls.

It's pretty uncommon to have a decent product that come from a movie, and this game was one of them.

Edit : Man, do anyone know the name of some car simulation where you had to get from point A to point B without having to get past the speed limit, and looking for stop signs and the like ? I remember, most of the time you had to drive in the night, dunno why but that was the first levels.
You had manual gears, lights and the thing to remove the cloud (dunno the spelling ? wiping glass or something ?)

Lego Island, I miss playing that game so much, I actually tried finding it just to play it for a bit for nostalgia purposes about a year ago.

Anyway, the first game I played was Winter Challenge when I was 4 years old and my dad brought in the first PC to our house. And I remember having issues starting the game off for some reason I think it was because it was a trial version, I didn't really speak english back then, I'm originally Polish. Oh, the realistic graphics in that game . Also, I remember having fun with doing a false start in ice skating because I was a little kid and this made me laugh because iirc the ref would just come out and start screaming at you.

The music in this video brought a tear to my eye and brought back a lot of memories, loved it.

First PC game: Probably Mac version of Oregon Trail, or one of the many typing games we had in computer lab classes. My school had lab classes starting in kindergarten all the way up. My first REAL PC game however was Doom. That's right, six years old and playing something that violent lol. My dad was awesome.

This isn't the exact version of it (it had updated graphics):

Doom (warning: music is pretty retarded):

First console game, and first game EVER: Super Mario Bros. I was born in 1987 and some of my earliest memories are playing this game with my sister when I was like 2 or something. We also had an old Atari with the wood paneling (2600 I think) but I don't remember a single game for it besides Pac-man and that doesn't really count since it was arcade first.

Spy vs Spy on the Commodore64 and a whole LOT of other games, but that's the only one I remember from my early childhood.

Then Prince of Persia, Commander Keen, Another World and Lotus Turbo... and 16 other games I had on family PC back in 1993 that ran on Windows 3.1.

First one I can remember is

BATTLE CHESS!

There was also an old game I've been looking for for nostalgia purposes, some mickey mouse game where you got to plan out a day by inviting a friend and doing an activity (going to beach, your garage, back yard etc) that I havne't been able to find.

Also, as a sidenote, that store you're in looks pretty sick. That PC section looked pretty robust.

Things like Battle chess came so much later than my first games.
The first game I have memory playing is Air borne.
But also might be Lode Runner, but I don't know at what age I played lode runner.
Air Borne, I played when I was 2.

Definitely the original Mario for NES. I was like 3 and had to call my mom into the room to jump over every single gap for me. Needless to say she put in the time to teach me how really quickly.

Then a lot of Legend of Zelda. Still probably the franchise I've spent the most time playing to this day.

As for computer games, it was stuff like Ski Free, Math Blaster, and Oregon Trail that got me through elementary school. I was terrible at Oregon Trail. Apparently filling your wagon with bullets and buffalo meat and forgoing medical supplies and clothes and your small children isn't a sustainable lifestyle.

In 2001 I picked up SC:BW and never looked back!

Reading some of these posts made me realize how old I am. I think my first PC game was something on a friend's 286, F117 Stealth Fighter and one of the first Leisure suit Larry games where you have to type in text commands, then there was a big jump into the Pentium era games like Warcraft 2 and Command and Conquer that stood out the most in memory.

Age Of Mythology!! Baby!!! Great game, but I think SC1 & SC2 are better.
With an average game length of 7m36s over his 6 games in GSL3, this is a no-brainer. BitByBit pulls more SCVs than yo momma at a club on Mar Sara. ♞

Stargoose for PC ^_^ I was so young I can barely remember playing it, I think I was 4 or 5. I had to get my dad to launch it for me from DOS and I don't think I ever sat still long enough to play it for more than 10 minutes lol.

DUDE. I forgot all about lego island! That was like my favorite game when I was younger! I remember I would always try and get it to run on our newer computers and never could. Oh well. Thanks for bringing back some awesome memories!

Oh my God. I thought I was the only one who played that game!!! I loved it so much but then my disk got scratched up. I used to love building the stuff then racing around the island on it. And the music was so awesome. I can still remember the song Brick by Brick or whatever it was called!

Not including any of those stupid flash games, it was SC: BW.

The first/original Prince of Persia, along with Battle Chess and Wing Commander.
There was another game but I can't recall the name of it..; it was a first person space-flight game.

After those, I bought my first game: Lords of Magic.
My god if only Sierra would make a new version of that one. It actually should be heralded as the predecessor of Total War.

I believe.... it was Warcraft II, or Doom original. I remember those two distinctly that's about it.

Gearheads, a fantastic old game.

...Does anyone know of this game, or where I could download a copy again for kicks? It was a ton of fun back in the day.

Original Sonic was one of the first games I played. Others include:

-Jazz Jackrabbit 1 (DOS)
-War at Sea (DOS)
-Pyro (DOS)
-Silpheed (DOS)
-Duke Nukem 1/2 (DOS)
-Jill of the Jungle 1-3 (DOS)

Those are really the ones that stand out. I'm sure there are a few others but those are the ones I remember. I think I have them for DosBox as well =].

PC it probably was Commander Keen 2, though the cpu we had back then had a lot of games on it, so which one I actually started first I don't know.

For the Console it certainly was either Mario 1 or Zelda on the NES.

Yes wow forgot about those. Thread is bringing back some cool memories

Ancient Art of War

Can't believe on a SC fan site this hasn't been mentioned (I think). Brilliant game for its time.

Air Traffic Controller

So damn hard at later levels - planes going everywhere and you had to stop them from crashing into each other and from running out of fuel.

Styx

You had to make shapes around the map and trap the Styx in a small area without getting hit by the bombs on the outside.

My first PC game? Probably Prince of Persia on DOS.
Games in general...that was some Atari game. Can't remember the name anymore but it was either a racing game, a game with a river or a game with pigs and a wolf. Those are the only three I played back then.

My very first game was a game where you had to recognize colors on the screen (yes I was really young).

I can't really recall the first real game after that, maybe rayman 1 or something similar.
