I couldn't believe it myself until I turned my TV on
I just don't know what to do now. I was paranoid before but now I'm just scared shitless
I know NK can't support a war and I know NK isn't stupid enough to start one, but deep down I just know they will actually pull it off

seems like they are aware usa/sk intends to 'call their bluff' this weekend and are trying to make as much noise as possible to stop that from happening?
|
I'm guessing it's just some form of outcry against the US/SK drills that are to be happening on Sunday. But I can never really fully understand the motives of any NK action.

Wouldn't it just be for the greater good to just call off the exercises? Or just hold them further south? NK seem pretty serious, I don't see what good will come from just pissing them further off.

It's like stopping a child that's screaming for a lolipop by giving it to him. Giving them what they want is just going to to make them scream louder next time they want a lolipop.

South Korea is finally fed up with allowing this to happen at the expense of SK casualties.
The important issue is whether or not North Korea's trump card, China, will come to play.

That's exactly what the US has done in the past. NK has a "tantrum." US gives some form of "aid."
It seems like the difference in the current situation is, continuing with your analogy, the child throws a tantrum and instead of giving the kid what he wants, the parent decides to brandish the beating stick to show the kid that if he cries again, he's going to get the ass whooping of his life.

Depleted uranium is used because it's one of the densest materials in the world, more so than lead. It also spontaneously combusts on contact with the air so as soon as it hits the target you wind up with one of the best penetrating that can be made plus a cloud of incendiary powder. As for the toxicity. Uranium 235 is highly radioactive and used in nuclear bombs. Uranium 238 is mostly inert and is called “depleted uranium”. Natural uranium is mostly U238 with some U235 in it, when you remove the U235 you’re left with inert 238. Roughly 50 pounds of U238 for every pound of U235. Depleted uranium is more toxic as a heavy metal than it is as a radioactive element. It is poisonous, but it’s roughly the same as lead in that regard. If we didn’t use DU we would probably use tungsten, which is even more toxic.
Well I would still not go inside destroyed vehicle / tank if shot by those ammunition. Would you?

I wouldn't want to go inside a vehicle/tank that's filled with lead or tungsten powder I could inhale either. Like I said, Uranium is a heavy metal and should be treated as such. In terms of radioactivity it's fairly inert. Basing it's danger on the fact that it's related to active U235 is just paranoia and ignorance.

Of course war would still not be in the best interest of china as stability in the region would benefit everyone, with the possible exception of North Korea unless it gets the aid it desires.
It seems like NK is all out trying to prevent these military exercises from going on as planned, because if they do they will lose face if they don't act as promised. They're not stupid enough to want a full scale war and this just seems like a desperate attempt to show that they're serious. I'm confident and hoping that the US and SK will simply call their bluff and go on with the operation. I really doubt North Korea would be willing to start a war over this.

I don't think China can stay uninvolved if this war breaks out. They wont have to join military fighting though but there will still be a huge impact upon them. They are on a direct border with Korea so if war does break out they are going to have a huge inflow of refugees and the possibility of nuclear fallout.

I doubt that China can just turn their head and say "I'm not getting involved" if NK does decide go to war (albeit an almost 0% possibility of that happening). Since they share a pretty long land border, China would likely need to respond in some positive manner toward its ally; China would be put at a pretty disasterous situation if it were to lose its favor of NK.
In other words, China would be put in a very difficult position if war were to come out. It needs to find a solution to ensure that it maintains a favorable position with both the NK and SK/USA in some manner or another, if that's even possible.
