Seems like the smartest thing to do imo. Would be pretty hard to do considering that their true leader is, in fact, already dead and only his direct descendants it seems are allowed to accept, or at least appoint, leadership (ir)responsibility.

I would be way more concerned with the rest of her yammering in that interview if I thought she ever had or will have an honest shot at being president.. She's not nearly as popular anymore as the USA media makes her out to be.

This is daily crap coming from her. Dellusional family values, and misunderstood patriotism is the only thing fuling her..aside from giving everybody a laugh, and a sigh once in a while.

"ROK Foreign Ministry, at press briefing, says joint war games with U.S. from Sunday will send clear message (to #DPRK , China)." If the worst case scenario happens, NK will retaliate back somehow. And i sure hope it won't go that far. When US is involved, it won't stay just the same like its now with SK and NK, "saying things but doing nothing about it"

I mean, clearly, they are delusional, but it seems like such a retarded thing to say. I'm pretty damn sure they are no where near our military capacities. And LOL at them thinking their special forces can infiltrate our mainland. I would love to see that. Well, atleast one of these points is not without some precedent. ¢¹ North Korea has vowed to counter any US offensive with suicide attacks upon American aircraft and warships, which they conceive will be effective at keeping US forces at bay. The DPRK military belittles the military significance of the Gulf War, and claims that it has the technological capability to match the US military. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_Challenge_2002 Millennium Challenge 2002 (MC02) was a major war game exercise conducted by the United States armed forces in mid-2002, likely the largest such exercise in history. The exercise, which ran from July 24 to August 15 and cost $250 million, involved both live exercises and computer simulations. MC02 was meant to be a test of future military "transformation"—a transition toward new technologies that enable network-centric warfare and provide more powerful weaponry and tactics. The simulated combatants were the United States, denoted "Blue", and an unknown adversary in the Middle East, "Red". Exercise action Red, commanded by retired Marine Corps Lt. General Paul K. Van Riper, used old methods to evade Blue's sophisticated electronic surveillance network. Van Riper used motorcycle messengers to transmit orders to front-line troops and World War II lighting signals to get airplanes off the runways without using radio communication. Red received an ultimatum from Blue, that was essentially a surrender document, that Red must respond to within 24 hours. Given that Red knew that Blue was coming, by the second day of the exercise Red used a fleet of small boats to determine the position of Blue's fleet. In a preemptive strike, Red launched a massive salvo of cruise missiles, overwhelming the Blue forces' electronic sensors, destroying sixteen warships. This includes one aircraft carrier, ten cruisers and five out of the six amphibious ships. The equivalent of this success in a real conflict would have resulted in the death of over 20,000 service personnel. Soon after the cruise missile offensive, another significant portion of Blue's navy was "sunk" by an armada of small Red boats carrying out both conventional and suicide attacks, able to engage Blue forces due to Blue's inability to detect them as well as expected.

I misspoke when including Russia into my statement. I was thinking about the 2 countries on the security council that haven't denounced this attack. That said, China wants to keep the status quo. In this instance, it appears that South Korea provoked the North Korean military to shell the island, at least according to Chinese sources. They're not gonna come out and say "fuck yeah bomb those south Koreans", but they are going to take a stern stance on any sort of retaliation by South Korean forces. In the event that any fighting breaks out, you bet China will exert it's economic influence to end the fighting as soon as possible. Otherwise it'll have a real mess on it's hands. And what the hell do bad fps games have to do with this? I don't even really play fps. I'm more of an rpg fanatic.

The south was doing military exercises that they do every year. It's true that NK didn't approve but what was so provocative about this time that could justify artillery strikes on a fishing village?

North Korea said that it hit their mainland/borders (causing even casualties) South Korea says they did the drill but never shot anyway "near" the borderline or mainland. But it sure isn't justified, but when you are playing with a country like North Korea, you know that you shouldn't play with the fire especially when its not the first time something has happened.

This has more to do with North Korea's internal politics than it does with their relations with SK. They are in the process of handing over their country to a 25 yr old (newly promoted) 4-star general with no military experience, and he needs to establish his credibility and show how strong he can be, or something. That fishing village was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

South Korean military forces were firing in the direction of North Korea across disputed waters. North Korea demanded that they stop, but South Korean military ignored those warnings. If Chinese investigation is true, then the S. Korean military was being straight up idiots or they were under orders to provoke an attack. Imagine Mexico deciding to shell Texas in an area where there were no people, but still across the border. What would the natural reaction of the military forces be? Warn them to stop firing or face the consequences. If they ignore that, what's he next step? Armed response.

Or is this just gonna be dead in a week and no one is gonna talk about it anymore? Yes, I know the Korean war never actually "ended," but you understand my point. There won't be a war IF North Korea doesn't do anything stupid for example: When the military exercise is going to happen (this weekend?) with US. None knows is China really backing NK somehow more than just doing business with them. I doubt China wants war at their borders though, so i would say no, no war until its solved out with everyone. South Korea for sure knows what happens if North Korea will collapse. Shitloads of people who needs AID. It's not easy task to solve.
