I own Senn 650, AKG K319, and Senn MX560.
I believe buying a special headphone amp is pretty stupid in 99% of cases. The 1% where it's not is because your headphones were so stupidly designed they hiss with all but the kindest of amps. Investing in a special DAC is also pretty retarded.
Take that, audiophools!

Sennheiser PX 100 and CX 300-II

Senn 555, and Shure SE420.
Hooray now I can ask question when I upgrade later =D
|
Used a Sennheiser HD555 for two years until it broke . Thinking of an Audio Technica ATH A900 right now, though I'm still looking and haven't made my final decision.

Had some TurtleBeach Ear Force HPX for around 1-2 years, but having the included amp and cord ran over by my chair broke them pretty quickly. Anyone got recommendations for budget [~$50 at most] headphones for on the go that would work well in a computer?

It's made it hard for me to buy a good system Yeah, I've bought CX500's which stopped working, then some Head-Fi RE0's which stopped working too. Not splurging money on a good pair of IEM's until I can assure myself I won't wreck them again. What happened to the RE0's? They're built like a tank! I've used them for over a year now. I replaced the RE0's twice already. Because of the one year warranty, I'll only have to buy a pair once a year though.
I also have the Audio-Technica ATH FC700A. Maybe someday I'll get more expensive headphones. Already liking the sound on the ATH FC700A more than RE0.

Sennheiser HD595. Getting an Asus Essence ST soundcard soon

Grado SR-60s
Sounds great, very dry/honest, and the price is right. Not too comfortable for long (>1hour) stretches though, and they are open which has some disadvantages.

AKG K601 at the moment. I've briefly used the ATH AD700, Beyerdynamic DT 770/Pro80, and a couple decent ~$80 IEMs, and I like the K601 the best by a fair margin.

Denon 1001K.
Worse sound than my old Grado SR-60s but amazing closed design: the seal really blocks out noise / keeps LOUD heaphone volume within.

Turtle beach X31 and X11s cause i'm normally a console gamer. I actually don't have a headset for PC >.<
|
have had a fair few headphones/amps/dacs/cables in the past including:
Alessandro MS-1 Alessandro MS-2 Denon AH-D2000 Altec Lansing IM716 Sennheieser HD25-II Beyerdynamic DT880 05 edition
Pa2v2 Meier Audio Headsix Headsave Classic RSA Hornet M Earmax Pro w/ a whole lot of premium NOS tubes Apogee Mini-DAC
atm I've sized down to just using a pair of HD600s recabled with a Bluedragon V3 cable hooked up to a Pico dac/amp.

Audio-Technica M-50s. I'm absolutely loving them
|
I have a pair of Grado 325is and love them =). However the open driver doesn't make them ideal for public use but nonetheless they sound amazing!
|
Anyone got experience with the AKG K 317? Those look really good, and might have the same drivers as the K 319, which basically means it's around the same quality but cheaper, if I'm understanding that correctly

Take that, audiophools! So you buy headphones worth of hundreds of dollars but don't bother hooking them up to suitable equipment?

High sensitivity is usually the main cause of hiss and it can be fixed with like a $5~10 impedance adaptor. No need for an amp.
Amps are nice for line-out signals, high-ohm headphones, etc lots of good uses!~
