(the polarity doesn't matter) to the ground and with the other, gently tap the tip and the middle of the jack. with the headset on, if everything is fine, you should hear clicks alternating between L and R sides. if the right side gives you nothing, go up the wire until you hit the headphone (have the battery terminals right where the original wires are soldered on). DO NOT keep the battery wired to the headphone for longer than a few sec. in theory there is no problem in doing that (since an amp can hit a headset with +- 10volts (20Vpp)) but it's better to be safe than sorry. I've tested the headset straight from the pc and the problem is the same. I've plugged my ipod earbuds straight from the pc and straight on the amp (through a jack adapter) and L/R work fine. I've done what you suggested and bended the cables at both ends to no effect. I don't have a battery + wire under hand right now. Not sure I understand what you mean by 'go up the wire'...do I have to take away all the 'casing' to have the battery+wire in direct contact with the headphone wires, or can I test it 'through' the cord ?

![]() the idea is to end up with the battery terminals connected here + Show Spoiler + ![]() by up the wire i meant - starting from the jack you plug into the amp, go to the next place where you have exposed wires. don't ruin the cable. there's a place inside the left headphone and another one as shown in that picture of yours, inside the right one. the measurement points are: the amp jack, inside L then inside R headphone. (why also inside L? - the wire going across your headset from L to R could be broken). you can just jump straight to R headphone, put the battery terminals where the arrows are pointing and listen to the clicks.

Thanks for the input, I'll test this as soon as possible. Just out of the blue, if i detect the location of the problem...is there an easy manual fix for it or do I have to invest in tools to fix it ?

![]() well if the wiring is bad you can change it but if the wires leading to the coil of your headphone are busted there's nothing you can do. in your picture, from those 2 most inside pads you'll have 2 really thin wires going to the moving-coil of the headphone(roughly, the other side of your headphone + Show Spoiler + ![]()

First one, so chose entry level and damn, i feel like i've been really missing out on the headphone amp world. Thankfully my stuff is easy to run so I don't need anything too powerful ... for now ![]() Maybe for christmas I'll treat myself to a nice midrange desktop amp/dac ![]() On May 27 2015 01:30 Eurekastreet wrote: Show nested quote + On May 26 2015 22:50 xM(Z wrote: you should end up with something like + Show Spoiler + ![]() well if the wiring is bad you can change it but if the wires leading to the coil of your headphone are busted there's nothing you can do. in your picture, from those 2 most inside pads you'll have 2 really thin wires going to the moving-coil of the headphone(roughly, the other side of your headphone + Show Spoiler + ![]() Sounds like I'm good for a replacement. Well the headphones were a few years old so i doubt I could have had a cheap fix...but didn't know about their customer service, I'll keep that in mind for next time. The day after my post, the left earphone came loose from the rest from the structure, so I decided to let go of the entire thing. Loved the sound of these headphones but it was getting too much hassle (even if I could fix the first problem, didn't want to have tape all over my ear/hair for the months to come ;d)

Looking for a pair of headphones I can use in the office between $100-$250. Might end up shelling out a little extra for the Bose ones if I can't find anything else.

598's dump by about 10%(at most) the outside noise. at around the same price but closed and with damn good insulation i'd recommend the Focal Spirit One (or something from focal)

I'm not really looking for anything particular, just something that's comfortable, and that's about it.

There are 3 impedance versions of the 880, one of which is like 32 ohms. Still not good for an office though if there's anyone within 20 feet.

I work in a big tech company with open space thing , so i need to able to hear if someone is calling me, but if i turn up the volume i can't hear anything , really nothing (and its not that loud) , it also makes no outside noise , which can annoy ppl if you work close to ppl (which i don't but maybe he does). the main thing and i will say it again , they are VERY comfy which makes them great for me i can work 10-12 hours with them on and not feel it, do i hear someone shouting or talking loud next to me , sure ,but very slightly , i wouldn't wear a sound proof headphones to work , but i can see why some pp l might. I don't use an amp , they are great as it is , great sound as well , but maybe I'm biased :D
