Quick Announcement!: So apparently I screwed up and managed to overlook one of the first entries in this contest (long story, please don't ask  ) If I found this out earlier, I might've just gone ahead and restarted the voting, but since we're too far along now I'm just going to make this quick addition to the songs. I tried to put it in the pack and reupload it, but since I'm at home now and bumming internet from my neighbor again (can't complain, at least he's letting me use it), my connection's too slow and unstable. So I ask all of you to please download the last song here.

You have one week (or two, see below) to vote so get listening!
I believe we have enough to do at least a few rounds if the contestants are willing to record more covers. If there is enough interest amongst those who submitted, then half of the songs that receive the most votes will move into the next round, and then next round eliminate 2, then 1, then the finals.
If not, then I'll just post the top three after this round. If we do multiple rounds, then I'll keep the voting deadline to just a week in order to get to the next rounds quicker. If we don't do multiple rounds, and there doesn't seem to be that many votes after a week, I'll extend it for one more week.

The general impression I got from the entry thread was that people didn't want names posted. If there's a strong enough opinion against this then I'll throw in a list of names no problem.
Also, I was going to do the youtube videos, but if XsebT is willing to do them then I'm ok with that.

The reason I'm doing this by way of PMs is because I want to avoid the bandwagon effect polls can sometimes (not always or even that often I realize) have.
Also, I won't reveal any names unless there's enough people who really want me to. It was suggested in the entry thread not to post names, and I thought it was a good idea because it discourages people for voting based on a member's standing in the community, and I also figured it'd encourage more entries if people knew there was less chance of being horribly shamed

Yes. I've redone it since that version also because the production was so shitty. I can't upload the new one because I'm planning to release it as a track on my solo album, but I can E-Mail it to whoever is interested? (It's just the same composition re-recorded to a better quality.)

I'm capped so I can't listen to all the other ones but (assuming I can't vote for myself) I'd probably vote for the Evanescence cover. Vocally very strong. And I've never really found bad singing funny so it seems kind of obvious to me :D. Will wait until I hear them all to PM though.

I voted for the beatles entry. It was a good song pick for a contest like this. vocals in genie in a bottle is just beaten down by the surrounding music - and even thought the rules allowed it it doesnt go down in my book, sorry

You could've just said that you think The Beatles entry was better and left it at that rather than supply some random ass "production related" reason to not vote when we're clearly not judging production value here.

I hope I get the chance to do a second recording. I've been sick almost a month straight, and I made that one on like the one day I had a voice for it. Of COURSE the recording turned out crappy lol. I like this competition...I kinda wish we had a poll up though...it's fun to watch the results... though I guess that would make it a lot less suspenseful.

I did and it was awesome! Protest the Hero is one of my faves and you're kinda reminding me of their style. Good show...awesome cover. The song's way better this way.

Haha well the solo album is basically done (waiting on a friend of mine to come and lay vocals for his parts on one of my tunes then it's out) but I'm definitely down for a collaboration. The contrast (if done right) can be pretty awesome. I'll hit you up in the near future!

The first time I saw the uNcontroLable video I thought she was lip syncing. I think a lot of them are awesome but she has the best to me because she didn't edit it (and I seriously had to do a double take) XD! Genie in a Bottle is awesome too but I'd like to see what it would be like if there was more karaoke or if she edited her song with that auto tune or whatever. All of them were enjoyable!

I enjoyed Last.Midnight's the most, even though I'm not big on that style of music. It was decently mastered, had clean vocals, and I loved the ending (though apart from that the rest of the song wasn't necessarily special vocally).
IMO many of the other entries, apart from the more 'for fun' entries, were very pitchy and you can tell they either lacked support or just sounded too laid back (I'm not talking about recessed vocals, but rather a state of mind).
It's unfortunate uNcontroLable wasn't feeling well. It was a good song she got skillz.

Screaming parts of Genie in a Bottle were great, but the singing parts were pretty so-so. Overall a really cool version of the song though.
Yesterday is by far my favorite song covered of the bunch, and the cover was pretty solid, but a little bland.
Bring Me to Life is a really difficult song to cover and you did a very good job, but there was for sure some flats in there, and I think if you did a few more takes you could have ended up with a better result, as it seems you have the vocal range to actually pull that song off.
Tough choice for me.

The Beatles song had the best vocals for no major recording. Last.Midnight's is good, but you can make almost anyone sound good with professional recording. Since this is a vocal contest I think whoever did the Beatles should be winning.

I'm assuming that the submission times will be enough given that the contestants hopefully will have an idea of what songs they'd do by now. If not, PM me, email me, or post here. I'd still like to try to do a live event, but having flaky internet service is making the possibility seem less likely. If anyone would like to help run that, then PM or email me. Also, I've still been getting votes throughout this week, so it's not a total waste having this run as long as it has
