12 for 12 against Arsenal!
Drogba loves the arse

for the scoring title
Rooney - 21 goals - 24apps
Drogba - 17 goals - 20apps

If Rooney can keep his amazing form he definitely deserves it

Drogba so much better than Rooney. Drogba shows up in big games. Rooney puts in 3 against Wolves and Portsmouth and whoever else doesn't matter.

Same here haha

Rooney also takes Man U penalties which does make Drogbas stats for the season a bit more impressive

yea exactly

i dont think anyone is going to argue that rooney is a better out and out striker than drogba but to say he doesnt "show up" in big matches is a mind boggling statement and makes me wonder if you have watched them at all lately

well, perhaps you've just read the stats summary

What? Rooney doesnt show up in big games? When DOESN'T Rooney show up? Did you see him against Arsenal? The epic league cup semi final against Man City? Even when C. Ronaldo was playing for Man U stats show that they have scored more goals and won more matches when Rooney was playing than they did with Ronaldo. Drogba is class and as a lone front man has a physical edge over Rooney (but only slightly) and probably better in the air but these are horrible statements to make based on half a season of goal scoring stats.

This WC is Rooney's.

Roma is 16-3 in their last 19 games. And they win even when they play like shit (like against Fiorentina today). Awesome. And at the same time Lazio are failing really hard. :D

Di Natale for the national team please!

What a surprise. Someone from the UK overrates Rooney.

Rooney always runs hard and puts in a big effort long after the rest of his weaker minded teammates have given up...

But you can't really say he gets better as the stage becomes important. My understanding of ManU for the last few years throughout the C.Ronaldo/Rooney era has been that their individual talent gets them through all of the weaker opponents, and their boring English discipline gets them through the hard games. (To be fair, you can say this about quite a few of the top teams)

I'd argue that everyone outside of the UK underrates Rooney.

Actually I'm a die hard gooner (woe is me since 2 weeks ago ) and being Korean I feel absolutely no affinity with the English national team. So it really, really hurts me to say I rate a Man U player (other than Park and Scholes who you cant hate) but this season really shouldnt be the one to put Rooney finally in the spotlight when he's been awesome every season. I do think he's still underrated like he has been such a long time, he's easily on par with Kaka, Messi and Ronaldo.

now to wash my mouth with soap

Actually in retrospect I think its hard to judge who a "big stage performer" is. It's all a matter of how you perceive a player.

For example Arshavin was in the spotlight throughout the Euros and carried Zenit to UEFA win, came to Arsenal and scored 4 at Anfield. Earlier this season he scored stunners against Liverpool and Man U away, but the recent weeks he's been anonymous and missed every chance he got against Man U and Chelsea, which probably have been the two most important matches for his club.

Maybe it just comes down to the form a player is in while they play big games? But still I've never seen Rooney go missing in a match and it's hard for him to given his in-built work rate.

Drogba single handedly destroyed Arsenal twice this season and maaaaaaaybe have scored more important goals than Rooney. But I don't think it's fair to just say Rooney is overrated and Drogba is better simply because it's so hard to make these kinds of judgments in football. But I do think it's fair to say that Rooney is more important to Utd than Drogba is to Chelsea.

Arsenal really dug their own grave this season. You can say the Van Persie injury was unlucky but they simply did not show up in the important games and would more than occasionally underperform vs much weaker sides. I really don't think Denilson/Walcott/Bendtner and especially Traore are very good. I like Rosicky, Diaby and even Song much more. Eduardo has not been good this year after the leg injury. Almunia is terrible, I don't know why there are not even rumours of Arsenal buying a new goalkeeper. The back four are solid though Clichy has gotten burnt since coming back from injury. Overall they simply lack quality in a lot of places. When Chelsea/Man Utd play narrow vs them, they just don't have the quality to create chances like vs relegation sides.

There's still the slightest of hopes for Arsenal, we have a really easy run of fixtures until the end of season after this month's disgusting onslaught, who knows what Man City, Villa, Liverpool, Tottenham can do to Man U/Chelsea on the right day? And theyre still to meet each other (draw plz x10)

I just hope Wenger signs some players this summer who can make guaranteed impact, five seasons of anticlimax is more than enough. Theres a lot he can do with 40 million this summer (bye Cesc )

Half the Bordeaux team would be nice

I want Alou Diarra to be signed by Real Madrid, so they would build a meat mincing machine out of the three Diarras on their midfield just for the wtf factor.

I haven't given up the hope that one day you people will grow enough intellectually to reach my superior level of football appreciation and therefore start comprehending the beauty of the supreme league.

Ya, based on the play Fiorentina totally deserved to get 3 points. Football is however, which was (IMO of course) fortunate in this game, not a judgement sport. All that matters is that you score more goals than your opponent. It's a great strenght to be able to get those 1-0 victories despite playing like shit.

Di Natale has been included in the last couple of squads, bu he hasn't been included all the time during Lippi's regime, in Confederations Cup for instance. But when I come to think of it, I believe Di Natale was injured back then. Well, I just hope he's in Lippi's plans for the World Cup. He's fucking brilliant.
