mouse only here too. and single finger because using the 2nd finger for streams somehow actually messes up my timing for everything...

I'm currently able to play most hards except for I guess like 190+bpm ones... and can do (relatively) 150 and below bpm for insanes I can probably do some streams with one finger anyways though. I'm not too big on getting SS anyways though. I don't even have SS's for easy's ffs (because I get 1-2 random 100's every game) so I can settle for S's... ah well (I generally get like S for easy, S-A for normals, S-C (generally B though) for hards, and C-B for insanes (I quit out if I have <75% accuracy usually though))

The switch to mouse+keyboard is very easy if you only bother using the keyboard on streams that are too fast to single-click. It's probably better to try to switch entirely to keyboard though. Currently I use left-click on most things, and there are certainly maps that are very difficult for me to do because of this.

And I have come to the conclusion that click/x still works for me and I actually do get better at it if I play streamy maps. But I don't like stream maps so I never get better at it >.< I don't have any problems with the supposed downsides, I just have the same ones everyone has. Learning what speed to move the mouse at during the stream. Plus I like alternating hands, it feels so cool. It really doesn't matter how you play this game at all.

When I was first doing stream maps, I basically just hit z/x as fast as possible, saw how it worked, then adjusted from there. Eventually I learned the timings based on sight (I don't understand rhythm at all, I play almost as well without sound as I do with). Moving the mouse at the correct speed is the hardest part for me. In particular, the stream maps with larger spacings are very difficult for me. Also, the coolest thing ever is when I take my hand off the keyboard to scratch my nose, and hit a group of fast notes by alternating left/right click.

Yes, that also took me about 1000 tries to beat, but then I went for a FC with mouse only. Most of those plays lasted under 10 seconds.

I started mouse only, but I found it was really holding me back a lot. I found that having to click the mouse as well as move it with the same hand interfered a lot. Having to use the different sets of muscles I think made it much harder to be precise with the mouse as well as the timing. Also, the fact that you're using the same hand for both means that you cannot mentally separate the operations of moving your hand and clicking. Now, when I made the switch to Mouse+ZX I did get worse for a short time, but I improved quite quickly. Using both hands instead of 1 hand makes things a lot easier. I noticed it in stepmania when I switched from 1 hand to 2 hand styles as well. And anyone with a functioning brain knows 1 hand beatmania is far harder than the standard 2 hand style. Also, I tried that map you linked McFortran.... That is a perfect example of why every person who produces nightcore should be shot.
