Either way that point of view is not that far fetched and neither is yours, just opposite sides of the optimist eh? I wouldn't go as far as saying they "choke", unless of course your talking about back in the Malone/Stockton era. I might be being a little bit optimistic but I don't see them finishing any lower then fifth seed. See your point though. On another note Portland was pretty disappointing tonight. The Laker's played solid, but it really wasn't there defense as much as it was bad offense. Portland had a really off shooting night(They shot 34% ouch!). Not to mention Oden will now presumably be out a few games. Poor guy had all this pressure on him and he steps on someones shoe in the first eight minutes.

I would say they choke much less back then than they do now. 98 the Jazz go to the finals against the Bulls and get stomped by one of the best teams to ever hit the boards, but they played well. 08 3-1 against the lakers who then go on to get stomped by the Celtics. Deron and Carlos dropped the ball in leading the team through the conference playoffs last year, they did well against houston but the Lakers were just too much. They dont lost because they choke though thats just one factor.

Carlos Boozer, who you actually can apply the word "Choke" to, played horribly throughout the playoffs last year. And secondly the free throw shooting. Yes, I do realize that the Jazz play rough defense and foul quite a bit. But it is just ridiculous all the touch calls Kobe got during that series. I can't remember the exact numbers, but it was something like over 100 free throws for just Kobe himself in the 4 games the Jazz lost. Regardless, the Lakers were a better team in that series and were expected to win.

No shit they'll score a lot. Bynum is still over rated. How the HELL do you have Pau Gasol and Bynum in the middle and let Greg Oden who is coming off a 1 year injury from his rookie season, who has yet to score an NBA point grab 5 boards in less than 13 minutes? THAT says a lot. Because if L.A. really wants to win a title they have to do much more than last year. It's not as simple as "lulz Bynum wasn't here, we only lost 4-2". LA's defense is good, but not top of the league. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up 3rd seed in the West with the way New Orleans, San Antonio (when M.G. is back) and Houston are expecting to go nuts (* on Houston).

Eh... their depth makes it far more likely that they'll end up ahead of San Antonio, who doesn't even have its whole big three, but I agree that New Orleans may beat them out. I'm not just saying this based on the game's results though - watch their games and compare them to last year, and they're clearly even better. Anyways, I think Bynum himself is overrated, but his presence isn't, if that makes any sense. He himself isn't (yet) a 20-10 player, but just having someone that big in the center, who can make mid range jump shots finally, and can block shots without having to jump, will give everyone more space to work on offense (and nobody can use that space like Kobe can) and a bit more backing to the interior defense (which was painfully obvious in its absence during the finals).
