I'm guessing all the qualifiers are done for all the games by now except last chance? Any qualifier lists? Not like I'd know any of the other games' players, unless maybe HnK players are all GGXXAC guys.

IIRC, the Japanese have an informal "soft ban" on certain characters in ST, such as O.Sagat. I wonder if they take kindly to JustinW using that character in SBO?

I know all of the Japanese 3s qualifiers except the last chance are finished. For AH2, however, there are still 5 spots remaining, but the list of qualified players hasn't been updated since July 6th. Maybe all 5 will be filled in the last chance quals...

even the official SBO page doesnt have any qualifier results after july 6th for AH, I assume it's only last chance, OR the suck at updating, which they definitely do, so hmm

hmm i did a quick google search but no real results...
only thing I foudn was this rather large AH thread
http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/bbs/read.cgi/game/33739/1191071126/

lol #622, Sabin posted stuff (assuming someone translated for him)

oh shit haha this is the AH main japan page

Yeah it's just O. Sagat with the soft ban. Occasionally you will see Japanese players using him, though, but I don't think any top level player specializes in him. Some recent 2on2 tournament (where one person controls both characters on a team) had at least one guy pick O. Sagat as his secondary. Anyhow, O. Sagat on tier lists usually ranks just right up among Dhalsim in the top tier, or just a bit higher. Here is a 10 point diagram of ST matchups that's a bit old but still pretty good--from what I've heard it's just Old T. Hawk that needs to be bumped up a little from that listing. It's not as much that he's terribly terribly broken (he's even against Boxer, maybe even disadvantaged against Claw) as much as how he's kind of boring to play against. The soft ban as far as I know is to encourage greater diversity of character selection--without as much O. Sagat, some lower tiers that get destroyed by him can thrive more.

On a side note you can see why Akuma is hard banned. Even so, historically there's been cases of people picking Akuma in tournaments. Apparently some decent but retired Ryu once soloed Akuma in a 3on3 tournament as a joke, an XMania I think. But after a certain point that ban was strengthened to be a true ban.

Point is, there might not be too much ill will towards Justin Wong. Or Mike Watson, who's playing O. Sagat with Jason Cole's Sim. The fact that 2/4 (max!) foreigners is O. Sagat is funny though.

edit: oh and thanks for the info, and haji too.

if there's particular info about sbo in a particular game you're interested in, i'll try to figure it out.

bill wanted to know about the last 5 spots, i havent been ableto find anything specific so right now we think it's the on-site thing.

Nah like I said for me personally I don't know any of the other games or their players anyway. Unless you've got infinite lab hours to burn, I think we're all good once Bill gets his final AH2 player list.

And what if he DOES have infinite lab (and drunk) hours to burn?

By the way, Haji pointed out on MSN that since July 6th was the last qualifier, the last 5 AH2 spots are probably for the last chance quals. Thanks Haji for your detective work.

wow FIVE LCQ spots? Yikes.

O.Sagat isn't the only character with a "soft ban" (ie. people don't really like it when people pick him). Vega (claw) gets more or less the same response since he's about as easy-mode lol. It's just boring and stupid to play against those two, moreso than any other bad/stupid matchups for the most part. Still, it's WAY more common to find a Vega player than an O.Sagat player as far as I can tell. Can't wait to see how well the Japanese as a whole handle O.Sagat, since they've apparently had some issues in the past (not enough to not win in the end, mind you).

Are their Tekken 6 spots for Koreans this year?

14th and 15th, right?

Would anyone with lots of time on their hands be gracious enough to find and post the schedule? .....

I hope a bunch of us in Waterloo can get together on those nights/mornings and watch the live streams. At least for 3s, anyway. (And for AH2.) Between games, we can probably play as well.

So for us in North America, the games will be played Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night? (And by "night" I mean 1 am or later.)

Japan time is roughly KST (1 hr diff maybe?) so yea, think starcraft times.

IIRC, from last year, I think the games started from like 8pm pst sicne they run all day.

i dont really understand why thouhg, since everyone knew going in that the Taiwan/Chinese players would rape, and all the players being interviewed on site were saying so as well. ~_~

I mean i have to think AH2 is more popular no?

KoF98 will ALWAYS be huge in Asia, and it helps that it's 98UM which is "new." They freaking love that game over there.

Anyhow, just checked and S.Korea does indeed have Tekken qualifiers going on for their spot(s?). Reposting results from Tekken Zaibatsu (posted by Rush2k4):

Korea SBO '08 qualify winner

1st Soyongdori(Devil Jin), Rain(Dragunov), KimMotive(Lei)
2nd Kingbaksa(King), Nin(Steve), Hole Man(Dragunov)

Teams from Final League

- Soyongdori(Devil Jin), Rain(Dragunov), KimMotive(Lei)
- Kingbaksa(King), Nin(Steve), Hole Man(Dragunov)
- Jinxiaorang(Xiaoyu), N(Nina), Dj.Yarm(Leo)
- Prince(Lili), Malgu(Law), Help me(lee)
- Inho(Kazuya), KimShinyoung(Bob), Sonic(Bryan)

League Final Match

KimMotive/Lei > Nin/Steve
KimMotive/Lei < Kingbaksa/King
Soyongdori/DJ < Kingbaksa/King
Rain/Dragunov > Kingbaksa/King
Rain/Dragunov > Holeman/Dragunov

Rain team goes to SBO as nr.1 team from Korea

Two teams from Korea, Soyongdori/Rain/KimMotive as team 1 and Kingbaksa/Nin/Holeman as team 2. I'm not super familiar with the first team but Nin and Holeman are pretty well known top players in Korea.

Apparently MaDDoGJiN and CCer's team got upset in group E; MDJ just got out of the army earlier this year and stepped it up pretty fast, teaming up with CCer to win a major national tournament of some sort a few months ago. Too bad they couldn't quite push through at this qualifier, would have been like a Tekken-style glimpse of hope that Boxer will return from the military and own it up shortly afterwards.
Maybe some Koreans will try to get through the LCQ?

ah yea I recognize Nin, he won in either 2006 or 2007 right?

Problem with LCQ is that even getting INTO LCQ is by luck of the draw. Literally - draw.

Nin was Korea T5 champ in 2005 (also the year he won SBO, IIRC?).
