btw really noob question since ive nevered played any SNK game beside CVS2. but everyone says kof98 and kof2002 far outshine every other kof thus far (excluding kof12). just watching it i dont really understand why its so much better than the installments that followed them. is it something where i have to play and only then ill understand? | ||

I don't play any SNK games myself so I'm wondering about the same thing myself. I do know that kof98 and kof02 are the two "dream match" installments that don't have a storyline but rather feature "what if" scenarios and rosters. i.e. they both include characters that are dead in the storyline. kof98 has most of the characters in the kof94-97 Orochi Saga storyline, while kof02 mostly has characters from the kof99-01 NESTS Saga storyline. Consequently, the kof98 and kof02 rosters are larger than in the other games, and probably more effort was given into doing system design and balancing and redesigning character movesets, although neither are very balanced anyway. Many (all? of the non-spinoffs) kof games after kof98 other than kof02 deviate from the 3on3 battle style by having strikers or tag team subsystems that in general were not received well. Many of the games other than kof98 and kof02 have ridiculous game-breaking glitches, other crazy stuff, and/or ridiculous god tier characters. I think the older games were a bit slow as well. But as I said I'm not sure and I don't have any real experience with the games personally. | ||
