Goblins start walking from their fortress to yours at around 80 dwarfs. Titans come at around 80 dwarfs.
If you started in an area with no goblins they will never come. To check for future reference if you don't know how during the embark screen just keep hitting tab until you see the civilizations tab. In some world gens goblins won't be in some spots because the elves had war with them and won and other random stuff like that.

Is there a possibility to keep all this moss and stuff out of my beautiful, tidy fortress whenever I discover a cave? As soon as my Urist McDigmuch finds a cave it's only a matter of minutes untill the floor of my whole fortress is covered with cavemoss. It's not dangerous (it might be slippy, though!) but I prefer the cozy, heartwarming atmosphere that only gabbro floors can give.
I already searched the wiki but i couldnt find anything :/

Floor over your fortress. Or smoothing and engraving should do it also.

not just dwarves but also total worth of your fort too. some times you get a big artifact and your total worth spikes up crazy and you get invasions really early, and sometimes you dont. 93 is big, but if you start near a dwarf civilization with decent path between you and them and assuming there have not been and tantrum spirals my guess you at the moment had not enough time to craft some juicy wealth.

If anyone wants their good old graphics packs for the new version, LNP isn't out yet, but you can go into the LNP folder and take a "Data" folder and copy them to the new version of DF. It won't cover everything but I can't stand the basic ASCII.

He's cleaned up world gen so you don't need to go very far to have a very interesting world. Just do short history because the number of things that are created on very high settings is over 10 times what it was in the last version.

Holy shit! Here I thought I was gonna have a slow valentines, then toady comes out of nowhere and shows me how deeply he loves me!

O GOD WHY
exam tomorrow -_-
of course that didnt keep me from genning some.
1st try: crashed around 270 on medium region 2nd try: halfed the time limit, found that i didnt really want to wait all that long, cancelled. 3rd try: 200 year medium region, gens just fine. Age of Heroes. ... 3.2: Age of Heroes. 3.3: Age of Heroes.
My megabeasts keep getting themselves chopped up within the first 100-110 years
Tried genning a large region; took some more time but it stayed in the age of myth... until i cancelled it for not responding anymore, around 270 years in. At that point it was taking up 770mb ram; i think it would've crashed somewhere around 1100 anyway.
Generally i'm getting tons more historical figures. 15000 living in a medium region of 200 years! For some reason my 31.x worlds all had around 1/8th of that.
Large region, 200 years. again, most megabeasts are killed within 100 years. Survivors are: Male Roc II Bronze Colossus III Female Dragon II Male Dragon I Female Hydra I out of 4 pages.

AWESOME
now I just wait a few weeks for the bugs to get fixed then I'm gonna go on many wonderful adventures. I wonder if you can take over a necromancer tower, then overrun a few towns with undead?

xD i found a human who ruled some place. Until it profaned the civ or site at the age of 21, to then be cursed* with shapeshifting into a lizard-like monster every full moon. It fled to the "hills of crying" (xD), and lives still at the end of worlgen - 198 years old! It now has a list of 400 kills (mostly animals, presumably showing up because they were owned?)
Unless humans are immortal atm, shapeshifting apparently grants immortality. (didnt check raws)
edit: * cursed by Onmo, a god of humans! Onmo didnt do much; only got 1 page of legends. Received the worship of a few people (no race specified) and 1 kobold. Cursed the aforementioned guy and 1 more, that guy to "prowl the night in search of blood"!
Awesome, gods get involved in stuff now! :D

On February 12 2012 23:56 SnK-Arcbound wrote: Floor over your fortress. Or smoothing and engraving should do it also. doesnt work Or I made a mistake. I build the floor as quickly as possible on the stairway thats directly above the cave. But well, that takes some time and those seconds were enough for the moss to get inside my fortress. Now everything gets mossy again

Flooring over the way to the cavern doesnt work.
You breaching the caverns has triggered a flag. Any muddied tile in your fortress can now grow underground trees and small plants at random. What arcbound meant is, floor over any muddy or soil tiles you have in your fort and dont want plants on. only muddied ground can grow underground plants, unless the newly released version broke something.

new version feels pretty good the only thing i've had problems with is dwarfs coming to my fort with there main skill not turned on in labors.
I just had the most amazing thing happen tho. Kinda spoily so iam ganna put it in spoilers for those who dont wanna spoil the first time it might happen to u.
+ Show Spoiler +so i just got my first BIG wave of migrates going from 17 to 54 dwarfs before they all arrived one of the kids becamed possessed then a waretortoise(human transformed into a tortoise) shows up in the same corner all those new dwarfs are sitting at .It is crazed for blood and flaesh. has glow golden yellow eyes. dark brown scales and are jagged and close-set.
kills 2 people a number of pets i send my military after it. next thing i know its back to human form and says its friendly. before my military gets to it to kill him he runs off the map.
last note during the attack one of the dwarfs gave birth to baby boy.

Haha, I believe Dwarf Therapist has been updated for the newer version already so you can easily manage those early dwarves and later on too.
|
yup i got it soon as that happen came out about the same time
just warning useing dwarf therapist some of the job titles are wrong. it list children as pressers and babies as beekeepers u can change their jobs even with the cheating option unchecked.
many other jobs are wrong but it shouldnt be that bad. iam not sure how this effect traders and the like tho....
edit: man in this version my dwarfs sure do like to have babies.

Toady released a bug fix patch today.
You will have to start over a new fortress if you patch your game as your saves won't carry over.
