Logging back in after taking a long break is an absolute fever dream. I jumped back on my old Eternal characters thinking I could just run a few dungeons, only to find most of my gear had become obsolete legacy junk and my builds no longer worked the way I remembered.
Between the level cap being 60, the Paragon system getting completely reworked, all the changes to glyphs and itemization, and now two new classes on top of that, it feels like learning a completely different game from scratch. I ended up having to double-check a gearing and Paragon guide on Skycoach just to understand why my sorc wasn't generating resources the way it used to and what I was even supposed to do with the new item power system.
The gameplay loop itself is actually in a much better spot now, but Blizzard definitely needs to do a better job explaining all these massive reworks to returning players.
What the hell, lol... when I saw a YT video entitled Diablo 5 I had to double check my calendar to see if it wasn't April 1st... so in the end, they decided to cut Diablo 4's time short just as it was becoming a decent game? While the vanilla Diablo 4 could've been rightly called a "candied onion" (nice and sweet on the outside, but raw and pungent on the inside) from what I've heard, the newest expansion made some changes in the right direction?
And here they go announcing Diablo 5... probably again for 70-100$. I guess the player retention and expansion sales must've been abysmal.
I guess it does make sense, still a couple years to go and d4 still getting sizable updates. I would want them to do one more expansion to lead up to what's about to happen in d5, since they already revealed quite a bit in the story.
The timing is fine, i just don't understand why you would announce it 3 years in advance. No only does Blizz have a history delaying games, they can't realistically plan that far ahead. And will it get people more excited? Or will it just make sure people won't invest in anything D4 from 2028 on?
yeah i think the marketing team dropped the ball hard on this. a diablo 5 announcement should have been met with cheers and hype, instead everyones just thinking wtf?
they could have announced it a year or two later after clarifying their position with d4 first. its not like they had anything substantial prepared to show for diablo 5 either.
Feels like the internet was really hyped by this Blizzcon and all I'm thinking is lots of empty trailers and hollow words. I have zero trust in Blizzard to deliver
Played Diablo 4 this past week. Did a Necromancer Shadow build. This was my first Diablo game ever and I played it on hard. Died 2x to silly shit like lag or something. I'll think about endgame but I wasn't impressed. POE2 is slightly better in regards of keeping my attention. D4 was just...missing something.
your first ever diablo experience was d4? go back to d2r.
but in all seriousness i also played d4 for the first time a month ago, and i also felt the game was very underwhelming. the first playthrough of the story including the expansions is braindead easy even without a build guide and on penitent difficulty, and then the endgame loop seemed to be almost a copy of d3 so... meh.
i hear the current season is a lot better in terms of content and fan service though
Hahaha, right? The audacity! I'll consider going back next year and playing. Too many games on PS5 through the end of the year, so my attention/money is already spent. If I find it on sale, I'll cop it.

Well, I tried out D4, went through the campaign, did the statues and stuff, went up the difficulty and then uninstalled because the stuff in there wasn't really that interesting, I absolutely hated the gearing and skill system and the world didn't grip me enough to want to replay it.
I guess it was similar with D3 but it lasted a bit longer. Did the campaign, went up to like Torment 13 or something, did rifts until rift 70 and trying to find better versions of the gear I already had got boring real fast. I started another class but quit rather quickly as I didn't feel like going through the same loop again.
D1 and D2 still have the most replayability for me, because the game there is really interesting from the start and not just at the end with stupid loops and going up a difficulty really amps the challenge instead of slow incremental stuff.
Also, I really despise stuff like dailies, weeklies etc. If the game is good you don't need any more incentive to play it and adding those FOMO things on top that feel like a chore is annoying as hell.
