NHL Playoffs are here which means all of us armchair jockeys get to prove to each other just how big our hockey dicks are! Each round of the playoffs will be done seperately and everything will be tallied as a points total, First round worth 1 point each, second worth 2, third worth 4, and the final worth 6. That's 8 points possible per round, and a final worth 6 for a total score out of 30).
This is being done hastily because the playoffs are starting right the fuck away here, so everyone who wants in PM me your picks (or post them in here, I'll record them either way. If you PM me theres a better chance I won't miss it by accident or something) for the first round. The prize will be... uh... I don't fucking know yet but there will be something! For now here are the matches:
HOME ICE ADVANTAGE FOR TEAMS ON THE LEFT
West: Anaheim vs Minnesota Vancouver vs Dallas Nashville vs San Jose Detroit vs Calgary
East: Ottawa vs Pittsburgh Buffalo vs NY Islanders New Jersey vs Tampa Bay Atlanta vs NY Rangers
You have until 7:00ET Wednesday, April 11 to get your picks in, as thats the start of the first broadcast!
SEND 'EM! Use this thread to talk about it or whatever chumps!
Anaheim over Minnesota Both of these teams have scary home ice records, and Anaheim has the home-ice advantage in this one. Remembering what Pronger did for edmonton last year in the playoffs makes it hard to think Minnesota is gonna sneak by him.
Vancouver over Dallas Luongo can probably carry this team past Dallas, Turco hasnt done much standing on his head lately.
Nashville over San Jose My pick from the west to hit the cup final this year, Preds are looking incredible.
Calgary over Detroit Home ice advantage be damned, Detroit struggles against Calgary and I can see this series being shitty for them. This is gonna be a hell of a goaltending battle with Kiprusoff and Hasek squaring off.
Pittsburgh over Ottawa The Penguins have some big fucking steam going into the playoffs and I'm confident that they'll destroy the Senators. I worried initially that as soon as Pittsburgh won 3 games in a playoff series, Crosby/Malkin/Staal was going to be taken out. Georges Laraque should be able to handle that threat. Another potential problem is the Pens sometimes questionable defense. This is gonna be the best series of the first round, and should go right down to the wire.
Buffalo over NY Islanders I love Smyth and Bergeron, but Buffalo is gonna steamroll this Islanders group that just barely squeaked into the playoffs.
New Jersey over Tampa Bay This year's Rocket Richard winner versus Marty fuckin' Brodeur.... Have to give it to new Jersey at home.
Atlanta over NY Rangers Atlanta is the only team to clinch a division with under 100 points this year. This is also their first playoff appearance in franchise history (awwww lil baby so cute). I'm picking them to wreck the stupid Rangers. Go ahead and tell me I'm an idiot now! I don't care. They'll win it in six you'll see!
Minnesota over Anaheim nothx due to injuries and goaltending
Dallas over Vancouver Reverse upset. Vancouver should win this, but wont.
San Jose over Nashville Preds just do not strike me as a strong playoff team. Sharks emmerge victorious.
Calgary over Detroit No. Detroit has had a spoiled division. They have bowed out first round ever since the last cup run. They do not play well against Calgary. Loss in 7.
Pittsburgh over Ottawa Ottawa absolutely sucks at playoffs. Game 7, but Pittsburgh wins.
Buffalo over NY Islanders I love Smyth and Bergeron, but Buffalo is gonna steamroll this Islanders group that just barely squeaked into the playoffs. X2
New Jersey over Tampa Bay Tampa has the talent. + Show Spoiler +
They still lose
Atlanta over NY Rangers I go for Atlanta as well. Gut feeling.
Anaheim > Minn anaheim D has solid veterans. you cant beat that.
Vancouver > dallas turco = mr playoff choke.
nashville > sj PETER FUCKING FORSBERG. plus they are pretty solid overall. i honestly think this will be one of the best mu's of all 1st rounds. i wouldnt be surprised to see this go to 7.
detroit > calgary depsite detroits 1st round jinx, i still think they will run this.
Ott > pittsburg ottowa blows worse than anyone in the playoffs. but crosby, as nasty as he is, still isnt good enough to carry this team in the playoffs
Buff >NY Islanders fuck the islanders. thats why. 4-0
New Jersey> Tampa Bay i hate nj. but tampa has got the offense, but not good enough all around to deal with nj.
NY Rangers > atl fuck hotlanta. im going to game 3, rangers take this in 6. =]. shanny and avery are gonna be magic. MAGIC
Anaheim over Minnesota Vancouver over Dallas San Jose over Nashville Detroit over Calgary Pittsburgh over Ottawa Buffalo over NY Islanders New Jersey over Tampa Bay NY Rangers over Atlanta
Anaheim over Minnesota Vancouver over Dallas San Jose over Nashville Detroit over Calgary Ottawa Over Pittsburg Buffalo over NY Islanders New Jersey over Tampa Bay Atlanta Over New York Rangers
East: Pittsburgh > Ottawa No one predicted the penguins to be in the playoffs when season started, but here they fucking are and this team will become really scary in the future. This team has so much potential
Buffalo > NY Islanders Buffalo is a monster, even with 3/4 of their best players injured they were still winning and won the championship. Islanders might have acquired some strong players for the playoffs but seeing how much they struggled to get there, I have no doubt Buffalo will be the winner.
New Jersey > Tampa Bay Brodeur is a beast. Lecavalier and St-Louis can't do everything every time. I predict a rather close matchup but New Jersey still victorious.
NY Rangers > Atlanta No particular reason here, just a feeling I have. Rangers has a pretty fucking good team, I say NY in 6.
West: Well didn't really followed western matches since I'm eastern and we barely see them play, so I'll go with what I saw.
Anaheim > Minnesota Anaheim seems to have a more solid team overall
Vancouver > Dallas Roberto Luongo.
San Jose > Nashville Forsberg won't be enough, San Jose win this one
Detroit > Calgary As much as I would like Calgary to win, Detroit will still beat them.
