We're not even one full year into the Switch 2's lifespan yet, and most of its games are still functional on Switch 1. As we enter into 2027, we'll see far more Switch 2 exclusives that have huge fanbases and the expected gravitas, like Pokemon Winds/Waves, which will eventually tempt more gamers to buy the newest system. I like Nintendo's decision to pace themselves with the biggest IPs while still releasing other fantastic first-party and third-party games every single month. It's a marathon, not a sprint, and this is the first time in decades that Nintendo has had two, consecutive, massively successful generations of home consoles (Switch 1 then Switch 2), though a huge contributing factor is that they're technically hybrid and Nintendo has always cornered the market on handheld gamers. I'll release my next updated tier list at the end of June, but I can already say that the S, A+, A, and A- tiers have all increased since the beginning of 2026. | ||

The Nintendo Direct hasn't happened in months ... and according to leaks, the next big Mario won't happen until 2027." This isn't an economist's unbiased take on the yen; it's an attempted hit piece on Nintendo (take a look at how many of the YouTube comments also attack Nintendo vs. how many talk about "the yen falling fast" lol). The names of his timestamp categories include "The 3 Worlds Turning Against Nintendo", and the thumbnail of his video says "Game Over" inside Nintendo's logo, which is ridiculous. On top of that, he's astonished that the most recent Nintendo console is the most expensive one ever (at 5:05), despite that always being the case for every video game console generation and for every video game company. It honestly comes across as some random guy deciding to post about video games for the first time... so I checked the list of videos on his channel ( https://www.youtube.com/@Statrys/videos ) and it turns out that I'm right: he just posts sensationist nonsense, and this is his first attempt at a gaming-related / Nintendo-related video. The base set NES was $199 USD on release and the SNES was the same price on release many years later. Factoring inflation in .. the SNES was less expensive. NES launch price ≈ roughly $575–590 today SNES launch price ≈ roughly $400–500 today depending on the inflation calculator used. Get your basic facts straight dawg before calling something "mind numbingly dumb". Also, the title is "Nintendo's business model just collapsed". This is correct, and its not a shot at Nintendo. The ground is shifting from under them. All that said, I think the guy is overly negative. However, just because I partly disagree with some of his conclusions does not make his video "mind numbingly dumb click bait". The guy brings up some good points. Atari console prices. 2600 $200. 5200 $260. 7800 $140. Jaguar $250. With inflation the 5200 was cheaper than the 2600. The 7800 was cheaper than both of them. Thanks for accidentally agreeing with me and disagreeing with your video guy about the costs of video game consoles. His claim is that the Switch 2 is the most expensive Nintendo console ever, yet you and I both agree that (when adjusted for inflation) other Nintendo consoles (like the NES and SNES - https://www.visualcapitalist.com/game-console-launch-prices-adjusted-for-inflation-1975-2024/ ) were actually more expensive than the Switch 2. You and I have already talked about that fact in previous conversations! The only way your video guy's claim is true is if he doesn't adjust for inflation, yet by using his bad economic logic the following statement is also true: "despite that always being the case for every video game console generation and for every video game company". That's a true statement only when not accounting for inflation, and I made that point to show the financial contradiction he was making: he disregards inflation when the opportunity suits him to hate on Nintendo's current decisions and parrot Nintendo haters on the internet, as I directly quoted in my last post, but in doing so he makes a completely mundane claim about how unadjusted prices always increase from generation to generation, undermining the "Nintendo is totally screwed this time" message he's sending. That's enough time and effort on this mind-numbingly dumb clickbait video. Nothing was gained, and a few brain cells were lost. | ||

The usual Youtube gaming grift is "woke" games but I don't really see how it's that, actually I remember a while back when Sony was viewed as becoming more westernised and Nintendo was the one willing to be risque. It stood out to me because it felt "backwards" compared to even older perceptions of Nintendo as the family company, etc etc. NOTE: I didn't actually watch the video nor am I really commenting on this specific discussion, I just think it's important context that a lot of people are probably already aware of but whatever. | ||
