Apparently, that teaser video's Mario Kart clips were possibly from an upcoming Mario Kart 9 game, as opposed to the current Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Here's an article on MK9, for those who are interested: https://www.ign.com/articles/mario-kart-9-every-character-track-and-vehicle-confirmed-for-the-nintendo-switch-2-game

Anyhow, looks cool. I wonder if Nintendo will create different controller options for young kids?

Yeah I'm back :D was more than a month without being able to access TL. I'm late to the party as usual....My year in review was actually nice but it showed both myself and my kid shifted our attention to the switch after the first Q (and my steam review clearly shows the opposite). On my end it was Pokemon Scarlet leading by a large margin, SM Odyssey came second with half the time followed by Arceus and Mario Kart. Also had respectable times in Mario Party. I got a full year Nintendo online subscription so im expecting NES nostaliga to take a big chunk of my 2025 year in review ![]() As for the switch 2 for some reason i'm loving everything about it and the confirmation of both digital and physical backwards compatibility (I thought only digital was expected!) was like the definitive selling point that I was missing. Kid will be happy when he realises he will get to "own" my current switch :D Also glad they are starting with a new MK, expected I know, but i remember in early days switch 1 playing a lot of MK with my wife and it was a blast ![]()

After all, Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe) was the best-selling console game of the past decade or so, significantly outselling every other Switch game, PS4 game, PS5 game, and Xbox Series game. What could top that? The answer, for me, is 100% this: I don't think it's very likely to happen, but having races through other famous Nintendo games (and increasing the cast of racers to include other Nintendo franchises, similar to Super Smash Bros.'s roster) would probably create the most amazing hype possible for the next Mario Kart game. Have a 2D-Mario circuit/cup. Have a 3D-Mario circuit/cup. Have a Zelda circuit/cup. Have a Pokemon circuit/cup. Et cetera. Best fan service ever.

Nintendo is a for-profit international monster. They do some great stuff and also some evil anti-consumer and anti-game-maker things as well. Thus, I do not think rising profits by Nintendo can be viewed as an unconditionally good event.

Not related but intriguing. I was looking into your tier list and saw that you play a multitude of genres and games but i miss seeing any luigi's mansion there. Is there a particular reason those were a skip for you?

No particular reason! I played the very first one on GameCube and enjoyed it, and then never really got around to playing LM2 or LM3. They've both been recommended to me before, and they're on my list of games I'll likely buy once I'm done with my current backlog (currently I'm absolutely loving Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake). I haven't been trying to avoid LM2 or LM3, and they've gotten great reviews overall! I have nothing against the franchise ![]()

The video game industry has been super sleazy, anti-consumer and sometimes criminal since 1975. The pinball machine industry in the era proceeding the video game boom of the late 70s had this same issue. And, on that note. Another scumbucket move by Nintendo. Nintendo got 32 of 33 BS patent requests rejected in Japan. That did not stop them though. Nintendo failed in Japan. Welp, they've got another patent application in the USA. https://80.lv/articles/nintendo-gets-new-patent-to-fight-against-palworld/ In the 80s Nintendo did not like the video game rental business. They fought it at every step. US courts declared video game renting 100% legal. It was a great way for 10 year olds with "paper route money" to play games. Nintendo eventually decided to go after BLockbuster photocopying the instruction manuals as a way to stop rentals. In Canada, it didn't matter. Every small video game chain said "fuck you" and challenged Nintendo to take them on. From Nintendo's views all these tiny video game store owners belonged in jail. And, they tried to make that happen using the RCMP. This recent move by Nintendo is just more scummy behaviour as Nintendo continues its 40+ year tradition of anti-consumer behaviour. Even if they've made some great games and great tech please keep in mind Nintendo's scum bucket moves. Do not hesitate to pirate Nintendo products whenever it is convenient.

I'm not saying I agree with all of Nintendo's practices, but if I owned the #1 most successful media franchise of all time ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_media_franchises ), I would do just about anything to make sure my intellectual property was protected. As a video game company, that includes not allowing too many copycats, even if those copycat creators were well-intentioned. When it comes to protecting Pokemon (and Mario and Zelda), I can see where Nintendo is coming from.
