Getting investment money from Epic (and therefore using their launcher/store) will allow it to launch as a free game, instead of with a $20 price tag. Seems worthwhile to me, if you actually care about it having a decent playerbase.
This weekend they're adding Weebow Gold Rush (which I guess is something like CTF but delivering gold coins instead of collection flags) on some new sky CTF maps, as well as ranked for the arena modes (and maybe others?)
This looks fun and seems to run really smooth, anyone who’s played what separates this from Q3/QL and other clones of this those games? Played a fair few over the years and they’re all pretty damn fun but never seem to gain the traction they should

I know how you feel man. This gives me the Q3 vibes but I haven't really played a competitive FPS in like 15 years and I'm way too rusty to enjoy such games now
I'm glad that at least the newer generation might have some cool alternative to all those bullshit CoD and Fortnite games.
Back in the day I was playing a ton Q3. But holy moly am I slow now. I'm glad I can play CS:GO on a decent (for me) level but everything that's faster than that I just stick to single player :D
I have terrible aim and reaction time, but it's still fun to play! (item control is more important anyway) I'll say that it seems like there aren't a lot of people populating the server right now, but if you're fine with getting the same opponent here and there the matchmaking still gives you decently balanced games.
No bigger streamer playing it is a problem for its visibility, i feel more people might try it if they knew it existed.
Yeah, I wish it was getting a bit more visibility as well. I imagine they'll probably push it a bit harder once they have the esports stuff running (outside of the test tournaments that have been running the past few weekends).
Overall I'm quite happy with it at the moment though. I was never really able to get into any sort of competitive play in previous iterations of arena FPS games, despite being somewhat interested in it. I've been playing duels a bit since the actual release, and even though I'm quite bad, the matchmaking still delivers me good matches the vast majority of the time. Wish it was a tad faster sometimes (5 minutes is a bit long for a queue imo), but I'm sure that will improve with a larger player base + me getting closer to the midpoint of rankings. The 3v3 ranked modes probably also have faster queues, but team stuff has never been a huge draw for me I guess.
Ya it is hard to get bigger streamers on board with a game like diabotical where you can't fake it to a streaming audience.. With practice im certain they could be decent but throwing down in a Q3 styled fps without knowing how to properly strafe jump is a no-no.

Right, that's a big problem. Unlike something like Among Us, which is fun and everyone can play it
The game is better than I expected. I've spent last month or so playing it pretty much every evening.
3v3 mode macguffin works really well as a team mode. Games do not take too long, they are intense and there's room for teamplay and individual plays. There's hardly any garbage time if teams are uneven.
Duel feels somewhat similar to Q3/QL, not really fan of playing duel but it's fun to watch.
TDM aka king mode of aFPS is relagated to custom games only, as it's hard to get into and is least esportsy as spectator game.
