Typically, the biggest event to follow EVO every year is Season's Beatings in October. Then the rotation goes:
January: SoCal Regionals February: Winter Brawl March: Final Round April: NorCal Regionals May: UFGT June: CEO July: EVO again
Season's Beatings is no more. At the end of this month is VideoXGames in San Maarten. Winter Brawl in Philly will be in August, and The Fall Classic, a new tournament put on by the organizers of Winter Brawl/Summer Jam/NEC/Final Round/ECT, is coming in mid-September.NEC is usually the first week of December.
Does SBO still operate? Or it doesn't have the amount of hype it should deserve because it's a Japanese tournament?
Best GFs: 1.UMVC3: Justin almost did it, that missed opportunity and one pixel prevented it from being even more great than it already was. JWong probably saved the UMVC3 hype so we didn't just get Zero and Soulfistsoulfistsoulfist. 2. KoF: Even though KoF took awhile, the 0-2 comeback reset into win was sick. 3. SSFIV/SSBM: Xian and Mango looked in complete control in their respective games, but it was still neat to watch. 4. Injustice: Superman get boo'd.
Best Top 8: 1. SSFIV: Great great matches overall, Balrog vs Hakan? Gen winning? 2. UMVC3: Only cause Justin went off. 3. SSBM: Tense matches, with comebacks, upsets and amazing character diversity. 4. KoF: Took slightly too long which rushed itself and SSBM. 5: Injustice: Honestly the only reason it made it to finals day was cause of that $$$. Rather underwhelming compared to the rest despite having one of the best timeslots.

They decided to have it outdoors.
In summer.
None of the players could see anything on the screens due to all the glare.
Didn't they also have issues with ants and insects getting in equipment? Like in cabinets and sticks? And then some issue (maybe in prior years) with some international players not getting to compete? The details are really fuzzy.
SBO reminds me a lot of WCG, both in the prestige they once held and in their decline.

Plus the fact that SBO has always been single elimination made a lot of people question it's legitimacy due to sheer randomness.

Not just single elimination. Single elimination, single game.

Really good EVO overall in my opinion. Injustice was horrible and I don't get why it had the timeslot that it did(melee had more participants anyway) but what can you do... Melee top 8 actually was rather disappointing considering how many AMAZING sets we had outside top 8. Still, it was pretty good and thank lord that FGC people didn't have to see Armada vs Hungrybox finals, that could really have ruined everything for SSBM >_> Dr.PP really disappointed me, he had no clue about the Falco vs IC matchup - You're supposed to almost never get grabbed and IC has no tools to force Falco to get grabbed either.
SF4 was really good even though most of my favorite players got eliminated right away. Cannot really complain either way, although Sako was rather disappointing to me(dropped quite a bit of stuff). KoF surprisingly entertaining, mahvel really good as expected. Persona was sort of good even though it was a gigantic stomp(but at least with the character I play).
SSBM was at around 136.500 peak for finals, not sure about others but I only saw UMVC have comparable numbers, think it had a few thousand more at least for a short while. SF4 I couldn't stay awake for
Nemo vs Champ FT20 MM is going on right now. Not being streamed, but it seems like Shady K is recording the set. Justin Wong reporting the score on twitter.

UMVC3 got peak around 146k for jwong hype-ness, Smash actually has a better slot, sunday noonish for most of the US and Evening for europe. SSF4 only got i think around 125k but it's time slot is shitty that's like monday morning europe and sunday time for people with early shifts to be asleep.
