Though I have no idea why anyone would buy the S. It has apparently about the same benchmarks than the One X

The GPU is less powerful compared to the Series X.

Which means the Series X is probably 499?

Design
Perhaps surprisingly, the two next-gen consoles look nothing alike.

The Xbox Series X is a monolithic beast of a machine, best designed to stand vertically, while the Series S looks more like the Xbox One S - it even has a similar grille on the top (when horizontal).

Xbox has decided to make that grille black and the console white, however, which makes it look like a loudspeaker when it is stood on its end.

Processing and graphics
While we don't yet have a full spec list for the Series S, there have been significant rumours and leaks in recent times, so we can compare them to the officially confirmed specs of the Series X.

The Xbox Series X will run on a custom Zen 2 eight-core processor running at 3.8GHz per core, with 12 teraflops (52CUs) of RDNA 2 graphics.

And while some of the spec will be around the same ballpark, the Series S is said to have just 4 teraflops of graphical power to play with. That's quite a drop and could result in some games having fewer graphical features.

Ray tracing is still said to be supported by both, but while the Series X will be able to run games in full 4K resolution, with a possibility of 120fps support somewhere down the line, the Series S will allegedly be locked at 1440p and 60fps.

Even with its lower spec though, the Series S should still be as capable as the Xbox One X, if not more.

Memory and storage
There is no hint as yet how much RAM (or what type) the Xbox Series S might carry.

The Series X, however, will have 16GB of DDR6 RAM to play with.

In terms of storage, both will carry an SSD for faster load times and the rest of the abilities that solid-state drives can offer. The X will come with a 1TB internal SSD, with an expansion slot for an additional, proprietary 1TB drive. It will also support USB 3 and up external hard drives.

We would imagine the Series S will also come with 1TB, especially as it doesn't have a disc drive and considering most games these days are anywhere up to 100GB in size. Some are even larger, such as Call of Duty: Warzone.

Controller
A new Xbox Wireless Controller will ship with the Xbox Series X and the Series S is seemingly no different - just a different colour.

You can find out more about the new gamepad here: Xbox Series X controller: All you need to know.

Games and accessories
All Xbox games - be they Xbox One, Xbox Series, or even original Xbox and Xbox 360 - are expected to work across the entire family of consoles. That includes the Series X, with games featuring enhanced graphics and other platform talents coming under the banner of "Optimised for Xbox Series X".

Undoubtedly that will apply to Series S too.

As for accessories, Xbox has confirmed that all Xbox One controllers, headsets and other first and third-party accessories will work with Series X (and likely Series S) too.

Microsoft's games library subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, is also said to include the next-gen consoles when they arrive.

Home Entertainment
From the official image of the Series S, it is clear it will lack a physical media drive.

The Series X (like the existing One X) will sport a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray drive for games and movie playback alike.

It'll also undoubtedly support HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, for improved video and sound respectively.

While there is no drive on the S, we still expect it to support the same video and audio technologies, for playback through streaming services, such as Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Price
This is the big one. We don't yet know for sure how much the Xbox Series X will cost, although the most recent speculation puts it at $499 (around £450).

We do have confirmation that the Xbox Series S will be $299 / £249 at launch.

Conclusion
We will update this feature when more details about both consoles are confirmed - especially in the case of the full specs for the Xbox Series S.

What we can say is that it makes complete sense for Microsoft to launch two consoles, at two price points, much like it has done in the past. And, with two models of the PlayStation 5 heading to market around the same holiday 2020 period, it's going to be an exciting, jam-packed end to the oddest year in recent history.

Yeah I think so. The twitter post says all digital.

Maybe there'll be a Series S with BD drive but that would most likely drive the price up

EA Play is bundled in for free, no idea how long.

When we created Xbox Game Pass, we did so with the vision of bringing you more great games to discover and play with your friends. Over the last three years, we’ve delivered on that vision by bringing more content to our 10 million members, and we’ve expanded the service to reach people wherever they play, across devices. At E3 in 2019, we introduced Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass for PC – and last month, we shared that Ultimate members can play more than 100 games from the cloud on their Android phone or tablet beginning September 15.

Today, we’re excited to announce the next step in this journey. We are teaming up with Electronic Arts to provide Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC members with an EA Play membership at no additional cost starting this holiday. This means Ultimate members can enjoy EA Play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Windows 10 PCs, and Xbox Game Pass for PC members get EA Play on Windows 10.

Formerly known as EA Access and Origin Access, EA Play will bring the best of EA to Game Pass, including:
  • More than 60 of EA’s biggest and best console and PC games like FIFA 20, Titanfall 2 and Need for Speed Heat, as well as titles from some of EA’s most popular franchises like Battlefield, Mass Effect, Skate, and The Sims.

  • Exclusive in-game challenges and rewards, special member-only content, discounts on EA digital purchases for DLC, games, and more.

  • Access to trials of games for up to 10 hours from best-loved franchises and top titles like Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21.

  • Not only will EA Play titles be available on console and PC, this holiday, some of the best EA Play games will also be available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to play on Android devices via the cloud at no additional charge.

Since we launched Xbox Game Pass, you’ve shared that it creates amazing experiences for you and your communities. Together, we have seen it amplify the power of gaming – to unlock discovery of new adventures, bring fun and enjoyment to a day, and make it possible to connect from afar. If you haven’t tried Xbox Game Pass yet, you can join the community for just $1 for your first month. With EA Play bringing the best of EA to Game Pass across devices there is no better time to jump in to the Game Pass experience! Learn more at xbox.com/gamepass.

Read somewhere that Microsoft does software and hardware game passes. Can't find the source though

I was something like:
Series S + Full games pass + Gold (Multiplayer thingy) for 24,99 $ / month for 24 months duration
Series X + Full games pass + Gold (Multiplayer thingy) for 34,99 $ / month for 24 months duration

No inital cost and after 24 month console is yours

Xbox Series S: 25 Dollar/Monat
Xbox Series X: 35 Dollar/Monat

Preise mit Xbox All Access (24 Monate)

Xbox Series X + Game Pass = 840 Dollar
Xbox Series S + Game Pass = 600 Dollar
Preise ohne Xbox All Access

Xbox Series X + Game Pass = 859 Dollar
Xbox Series S + Game Pass = 659 Dollar
