And it's the viewer and the viewer alone that decides what behaviour really ruins their enjoyment of the show.
Of course, and every viewer has a different opinion of what is great, and what ruins the show. So when presented with the alternative of listening to every idea including the conflicting ones, or doing what you want to do which is what got the show its original popularity, what would you do?
While the audience and income definately is a motivator for the entire cast, don't for one second think that catering to the audience in relation to how to play their characters is high on their list of interests.

Geoff knows his personality and picks characters to suit him. Gen feels like a fish out of water as a cleric and it was a bad character choice/bad roleplaying.
I think the white knight accusation here is valid because nobody would defend Azril if he ignored a wounded party member and when begrudgingly healing them used the least effective means possible. Especially in a time sensitive situation when they needed all party members to be as mobile and healthy as possible.
if you can read all these responses and still use the word "bad" to describe someone who has been playing a character for half an hour in a way that can't be described as cookie-cutter cleric, there's clearly no reconciling your ridiculous viewpoint with anyone else's. it's still not white knighting either but you keep misusing the term over and over like you've caught us with our pants down when the clear and obvious difference between gen and JP in this context is that azril had in-universe reasoning for why he acted the way he did. yes, people bitched but that's clearly their right, and clearly it's your right to reduce roleplaying to a binary function while making appalling analogies comparing a character with multiple sessions and events behind it to something as simple and flexible as a "backstory" which is all that defines another. I just don't fucking get why you would waste your time bashing gen when she's clearly happy playing the way she likes and when the easiest way to define good roleplaying is the roleplaying that feels most comfortable and enjoyable for the party in question. if there were irreducible problems with the way she played, it would be another thing, but her antics are part of what generated this fanbase and I don't think, given last night, that she is part of the current problem.
I've never thought azril should do anything other than what JP wanted to do with him, btw. why the fuck would I want to constrict the show I like watching when so much of what makes it awesome is spontaneous and uncontrolled.
So Geoff just apologized for 5 minutes and JP said nothing other than "moving on". Feels like JP just bullied Geoff into apologize or I'm still kicking you sort of scenario. That's just my 2 cents, nonetheless everything works out in the end.
even if that's true it also makes little difference. everyone who was following this has already had time to draw their conclusions and 'choose sides'. moving on is good.

I've fallen off the Rollplay in the last months, so I'll have to catch up some time when I have more time, but I really think you're making much ado about one decision or lack of decision. The fact that you are so adamant in your idea on how another player should play is problematic. Especially as in roleplaying there is a fairly wide variation on how things ought to be played including many disliking any sort of vancian styled magic systems and a loathing of auto-heal bot style clerics as 'roleplaying.'

I do think playing more cantakerous characters naturally runs the risk of these sorts of problems though. It is sometimes hard to draw a distinction between a character being dickish to another character and a player being dickish through their character at another player . It's hard because both are possible and this group has tended to swing into self-sabatage on occaison. That style has been popular and they have been successful, but I think it still carries risk.

Refusing to magically heal a critically injured party member in the midst of an urgent situation that called for them to make a hasty departure at as close to full strength as they could muster was really strange and seemed out of character for a cleric, especially given the back story. It seemed more like Abigael's selfish unhelpfulness than the new cleric character.
Refusing to heal? How about, has a good idea about how to get information. Information is extremely valuable. What they could have learned is anybody's guess, but at the cost of a heal it's not like the game would be over if she hadn't healed JP. She thought a reasonable course of action was spending a heal on an orc to get information.
This is not a bad idea, absurd, bad rp'ing, or anything. It is an extremely legit idea and the only reason Geoff's character acted that way is because it wasn't Geoff's idea. Go watch older episodes and how he responds anytime Gen has an idea that he disagrees with (no matter how valid it might be).
This whole thing to me is ridiculous. Geoff needs to learn how to be a a brutish, mean character without simply being an asshole towards Gen. There are a lot of ways to roleplay a jerk that don't involve merely insulting your companions. JP needs to calm down and realize that Geoff's reaction to the threat of removal was from that of a hurt friend so any ensuing arguments he made clearly weren't going to be level-headed. Likewise, Geoff needs to understand that, even if he thinks a lot of the things he says are jokes, he needs to dial it back and avoid toeing the line every chance he gets.
Wtf? He doesn't have this special "dick" mode just for Gen. If you've watched the series, he trolls Neal and Ryan also. He also gets frustrated with almost every character JP makes as well but in a different way.
So your argument is that he's an asshole to everybody? Well, that's quite a good line of defense that I can't really refute.

I think this argument is stupid. I'm not sure what other irrational and asinine criticism Zaqwe has given in this topic, but his name seems familiar. I'm not one to defend Gen, in fact, I've had nothing but criticism for her in this topic (meta-gaming, reading chat, suddenly trying to get a back-attack on every attack after like 20 weeks of not doing so with no role-playing based justification, not knowing her dice-rolls after 30 weeks of rollplay, etc.), but this is a new level of idiocy.
She is level 3. I'm not that familiar with 2nd edition (played it once as a fighter, only played 3rd edition and up otherwise) but she most likely only has 2-3 heals memorized for they day. Even if she was intentionally not healing, as long as they are not in combat, I don't see the fault in waiting until later to heal. IIRC, JP still had like 15 HP or so.
