warcraft 3 really fun in 2v2. long combats, and huge spectrum of strategies and tactics.
age of empires online is really good if you are looking for something newer. game staeted kinda bad, but picked up really god, players numbers are increasing steadly. with champion mode, (where evveryıone is playing pvp) the whole lvling a city and gettin items is not included in pvp. you just get in and play straight up age of style.
coh is always an option, but servers are kinda laggy and there is connection issues. nothing unbreable but they are there.
Supreme Commander Forged Alliance is on the next level to any other game out there. Far superior. Its only drawback was that when it was released no-one had the pc to play it, but now they do and it only costs a like £5 if that so go out and get it!
I really love this game and used to play it a lot eventhough oter minigames were more popular in WC3
it has a lot of risk/reward/psychology elements in it, which is what I love. (though I don't like some of the games like one typing game or some accuracy games.)
I was trying to find examples of really nice games but either couldn't find it or found one that didn't play out well and made it look boring.
Please try it, Actually I'm looking for people to play it too :D Haven't got the chance to play it for years. There are many versions, get ultima-x

skill level is bad, if you are good at aoe2, you are in the top 40 of aoe:o automatically. cant recommend it, 90% of your matches will be boringly onesided if you played aoe2 or even starcraft before.

Company of heroes , RUSE , World in Conflict to name 3
of those i had a lot of fun with WiC as it is really a team oriented RTS , you pick a role (Support, infantry , air , armor) and you take command of ONLY those units in your side.
im not sure anyone plays it still , was really original and had quite a lot of fun with it. a normal battle was 8v8
