Hi,
Team link: The Team Liquid Chess Group on Chess.com
Update 2:
The number of members on our team has grown. We have 38 members now who are actively participating in our own in house tournament, 4 Team Match games, and a vote match where as a team we vote for the next move.
We will be working out the details for a blitz style tournament. And a second 2 day per move in house tournament will be started after the first one completes.
Those that have contributed to help the group along have been given Admin status, and as the group grows, there will be room for more Admins to help the group.
Anyone and any ratings are welcome.
Update:
We have started sending our invitations. We do have some room left for more people to join the tournament. But you must join the team liquid group and accept an invitiation. If you want one, please message me on Chess.com Username: Diffyemo.
Because we wanted everyone to participate in our first tournament, the time constraints will be a move per 2 days. The tournament style is round robin, with 3 groups, with the top 2 from each group moving on.
I am pleased with the interest thus far and members of our club. Again, come join us in our vote chess matches, future tournaments, or just challenge a fellow team liquider to a game of chess.
Original Post + Show Spoiler +For those interested The Team Liquid Chess Group on Chess.com will be starting it's first in group only tournament starting this thursday. To play in the tournament all you have to do is join our group on Chess.com. Anyone can join. I will be looking for additioal people to help admin the group as our size grows. Come join today and help us in our vote chess matches against other groups, hang out and post about eSports, video games or chess, or challenge other members to online chess. We will be hosting more more tournaments in the future, both in house and against other groups. Chess.com is free to sign up and has an android and iPad/iphone app.

Just found this and joined!
|
So how does tournament round 2 work? Is it 3 group winners in one group and round robin and the winner wins or is it 3 group winners + 1 other in a 4 men bracket system?
|
Looks like we have a team match against USS Defiant starting up.
|
Updated with new info. Come join our team match games!
|
I've also joined the group^^
|
I think re-naming thread to The Unofficial Team Liquid Chess Group is much better. The tournament will come and go but the group will still be around
|
Got my NM title on there so now I'm a premium member.
|
Now we've got 44 members and a theme that features many starcraft/teamliquidy things! Also Kiett is in the theme, although I'm not sure everyone will be able to find her.
|
How do I actually see the background? I can only see the very side and top because the middle is covered by whatever page I'm on.

heh Golem, and apparently you are the secret weapon we have in these match games. Its nice to get into an under 1700 rated team match game. Your real rating must be what? 2200 for the NM title?

My CFC is 2242 and FIDE is 2194 or something. I guess I'm not as good at seeing backgrounds, though. :-/
|
Yeah, I'd be interested in a tourney, too. My ELO rating used to be 2200-2300. I joined the group already. And I just beat a pretty BM player in a nice but very close game in which I probably was in a lost position several time. Oh well, he'll always remember this as the day he almost beat RevTiberius :-)

I registered and joined the group with my aka Mr_Rico. I hope I'll learn something :-)

Congrats to FLABREZU for his undefeated run at the first tournament. It was definitely a fun one. Hope to see more tourneys in the future now that we have way more than 9 people registered
|
TL Chess players! It's about time. INHOUSE!
There's about 60 members in the TL group in Chess.com as of right now, so hopefully the tournament will be bigger. Let's get this going again. TLChess Closed Tourney #2!!!
|
I signed up for the group!
|
Yeah, I'll join a tournament if there's interest.
|
I'm in if there is enough people
|
Bumping to recruit for next tournament. I will be updating OP in the next 15 Minutes.
Err apparently I can't edit the OP as it is too old.
The bottom line is we are going to organize another tournament for our SC2 chess group.
If you were in on it last year, look out on Chess.com for an invite to competative play versus other groups, and an in house tournament of all members in the next few weeks.
If you are new here, and like chess, we have member of all levels. Please join us, Most of us are up for private games, especially correspondence type games.
|
Hey look! I didn't know we had a chess.com group.
I joined up, but I'm semi awful.
|
I'll join later today but it depends on whether I'm free whenever the tourny is hosted.
|
I joined my name is 100reps
|
I just joined! Probably too late to play in the first tournament but I'll take some time to acclimate myself to this site, etc.

Inhouse hasn't started yet, so no worry slowbacontron. Smancer (the super admin) seems busy at the moment, but I'm guessing he'll find some time this weekend to create the tournament on Chess.com and get this rolling. If not, then I'll make one after this weekend.

So how does this 24h per move thing work, does this mean I have to make exactly one move every day? I assume that it means that after you opponent has moved, you have 24h to do your move again? This means that you have to be available for like a month (30days) to finish a match of 30 moves? Especially if your opponent is from a completely different timezone right, because it is hard to make faster moves then I guess....
So, how does it work?

Especially if your opponent is from a completely different timezone right, because it is hard to make faster moves then I guess.... So, how does it work? When your opponent moves, you have 24 hours to make your move.
For example, player A makes a move on Monday 6pm (player A's time). Then player B have until Tuesday 6pm (player A's time) to make his move. Let's say player B made his move on Monday 9 pm (player A's time). Then player A will have until Tuesday 9 pm (player A's time) to make his move. Hope this makes sense. It's not 24 hours from when YOU moved. It's 24 hours from when YOUR OPPONENT moves.
In theory, yes if both players take all 24 hours to make 1 move at a time, then a single match can take a month. But in practice, I haven't seen it happen yet.
As far as having to be available for a month, my take on it is, as long as one has continual access to internet, then making 1 move a day shouldn't be a problem.

Very fun already. I'm in the middle of two other non-tourny games that are 3days/move as well. Interesting seeing these games all go at varying paces.
don_kyuohote and strethdor our games have quite an exciting start.
Can't wait to see how this turns out. You guys just got me hooked on chess.com. This is the first reason I've had to really push me to try it. Lots of fun!
going to sleep atm.

we have begun! i hope i don' t just forget to log on one day and move, very weird openings in my 3 games

Somebody already forfeited against me.

Can't wait to see how this turns out. Indeed! Our game has turned quite sharp pretty quickly. I basically have no experience playing against Pirc, so this is definitely a new territory for me. Definitely didn't get enough compensation for that bishop sac, but it ain't over yet.

What if I told you this is my very first time using the Pirc outside of a few practice games with the computer that I played both before and in the middle of our match?
Unfortuneatly chess.com is blocked from my school so I can't look at the current board position for about 5 more hours but I was really surprised that you let me fork your rooks with my bishop.
SehWho timed out in my first game against him. =/
I'm also finding that correspondence chess really lets me spend lots of time thinking over my opponent's next possible move and my responses to each to the point that I'm making much better moves than I do under tight time pressure.

Wow HUGE upset in group #1.

But it really was a coin flip by me. I was banking on you to 16...Bxc3 17 Re3 Bxa1 18 Qxa1 and I win. But if your bishop doesn't take Ra1, then I'm just giving away a pawn for nothing in return, so it was a gamble. But when you moved 16 ...Bc4, I figured you saw the trap and avoided, so I had to change plan. I still feel like I'm in a favorable position since you're basically down a rook too (that rook on h8 ain't going anywhere anytime soon ) and my remaining pieces got a heckuva lot more active, but I am playing with fire right now, that's for sure.

Apparently i took a game off of a master level player? That's crazy, it might be my second ever in any format. I think he could have drawn that but I'm not good at endgames so I'm not sure.
|
I have withdrawn. It was fun, but I was taking too long with my moves and I think I was too busy with life to get my games going at an appropriate pace. GLHF to the remaining players!
|
I done goofed in that game. Dropped a piece then an exchange. Ouch.

DON_KYUHOTE I THOUGHT YOU WERE MY FRIEND DRR0X0RZZ LOL

Well, I guess my group needs to hurry up and finish so round 2 can start
Yeah there were more games decided by timing outs than I expected, but I guess the good news is that people who are remaining are the people who showed up consistently to not time out, so I hope timing out becomes less of a factor moving forward.

I don't understand 60.Rd1. Doesn't Kb5 instead just win?
|
It probably does, I'm bad at endgames and was sure he had an insurmountable advantage but I may have been able to trade that pawn off and force a draw anyway? Not sure.
|
Still, pretty excited to have taken a game off of an IM (flabrezu) and drawn a game against jorosar. Holy shit there are some strong chess players on TL.

looks like a very nice game. I get pumped too when I'm down but find a way to draw.

I'm definitely glad that it's one day per move. Keep having other games where people take like 5 days to move, so by the time I see the game again I've forgotten what I was planning on doing.

Sure, except I want to play a game, not solve puzzles, and I think it a waste of time to analyse the same lines over and over because my opponent takes 10 days to move.

I don't think 3FFA wants this tournament to end.
|
Haha. I don't.
Honestly though, I've got a school life in addition to a social life and I work as well so it gets hard to fit things. I've actually been coming onto the computer once a day for usually at most 20 minutes to do anything at all gaming related recently. Then I got sick and came on at almost exactly the same time each day for a few days.
Finally lost to FLABREZU. Great game. http://www.chess.com/echess/game?id=81284210
By the way, can we have a TL -> Chess Translation sheet in the OP next time we do this? I still have almost no idea who's who.
|
haha, yeah it would be nice if everyone just used their TL names for chess.com for reference. If not, then we should have TL - Chess.com name list.
As for the length of the tourney, it's true it has gone a tad bit longer than I expected (I didn't expect it to last over 2 months) But such is the nature of correspondence chess tourney I guess.

Congratulation to GolemMadness(FLABREZU) for defending his championship! With an impeccable record of 14 wins 1 loss 3 draw, he has won the 2nd TLChess Closed Tourney!

Those were painful slow losses.
Congrats on a well deserved first place!

Twas a fun one. Definitely learned a lot about my own weaknesses.
The only bummer was that there were a lot of people losing by timing outs in the 1st round, but I think as people get used to it, that won't be a problem in the future.

We should do a blitz tournament or something so I can drop a lot of pieces. :D

The thing about blitz is the logistical problem of having people sit down at the same time. Not the most TL-friendly thing when you consider that we are from many different time zones and all have other priorities in life. After seeing what happened to the one wingpawn organized a few months back, I am skeptical. Not that I'm against anybody organizing it.
Meanwhile, I should start making the TL-chess.com name match list.

Any feedbacks on the tournament itself?
I'm thinking we should have these tournaments about 2-3 times a year kinda like how OSL/MSLs were in BW. I feel like the more, the better, but having it too often can really take the excitement/hype out (kinda like GSL) Add the fact that the tourney takes anywhere from 1 month ~ 2 month to finish, I think having this twice or thrice a year sounds reasonable, with dates aimed towards vacation time, so it doesn't overlap with studying for the finals, for those who are in school.
