Tried to find some stuff but was not really successful and srk and other forums are elitist as fuck so yeah any help would be appreciated =) To be honest information seems a lot more distributed for Marvel, maybe because there's more breadth of information so things come in bits and pieces. I think figuring out how characters play is easy enough just watching match videos, but for understanding game mechanics I'd just bite the bullet and read through the shoryuken wiki or something. I haven't found anything like Sirlin's ST beginner's tutorial.

that is a serious amount of info in the OP. Thank you TL for doing this! I've just started getting into the FGC after watching EG.JWong just for the sake of EG. Love watching SSF4AE12 now! EG is gonna sweep that shit again just like CEO!

It's a fighting game, so as long as you understand the concept that the person with more life is winning (unless phenix), you can start enjoying and fill in things as you go.
This is a tier list so you know who's a tier whore and who plays crappy characters. There are some differences in opinion, but overall most people would agree. Since it's a team game you can play a bad character but have it fill a specific role on a teem with good characters and still have a strong team. It's not like picking Hakan. http://www.eventhubs.com/images/2012/may/20/colccfilipino-champs-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-tier-list/
When something comes up in a cast that you are not familiar with use this, but I wouldn't just straight up recommend reading everything there, as there is a lot that really just doesn't matter. http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Marvel_vs_Capcom_3
Those are the only two things I could think to give someone. Other than that just listen to the cast. Evo should have the type of commentator who explains things rather than just yelling about how sick something was, which should help you.

As a new person to EVO, how can i easily go around the streams? The stream page from the link on this thread lead to a site which was quite confusing to get around.

If you use the official stream page, then you can pick a layout and the green/white text at the top will select between the 3 streams and below will be the schedule.
Or alternatively you can use the individual twitch.tv pages at Gameplay 1, Gameplay 2, Panels / Interviews

Almost had a hype heart attack last year, can't wait!

Does it cost money to watch this? Or is it just PPV HD?
|
WOW thanks a lot for this pachi you are amazing

It's completely free to watch, you only have to pay if you want to use the stream chat function. Which I'm thankful for b/c stream chat for CEO was at like 1 min. per post on slow mode. You also lose all the retardedness of stream monstering for the most part. Anyways, Uryo & Haitani Fighting! Clockw0rk Fighting!
In addition, I have to agree with the others, pachi you make godly OPs for this and the Fighting Game Thread. 100% Mad Props to you.

It's free to watch in SD. Chat is subscribers-only, but the proceeds from subscribing all go to the newly established Evo scholarship fund.

You can watch for free without chat in SD, and there are three streams: 2 of gameplay and one for the panels.
Oh yeah, since I read a couple of posts by people who aren't as familiar with fighitng games, and since it coincides with a project I'm working on, and since I am not a newcomer to fighting games, I will try to frequently make some posts here over the weekend to answer questions about general and game-specific strategy, players to look out for, etc.
