I you don't mind... is it Sandy? From ensemble studios? or maybe the sheriff? maimin matty? I'm extremely curious to know about this.. is there a page where I can read more about this excellent news? AOC was / is my favorite game... I think it is the only game that gets me.

Sandy was more one of the concept guys, sheriff and matty were play testers. The former dev doing something is ES Matt who coded a good chunk of the Genie engine and wrote alot of the tools they used to build the game. The project is called Age of Empires 2: Forgotten Empires. I am kinda really not up on the scene at the moment, but I believe there is a alpha or beta build out, http://aoczone.net is the main community site. Thread on AoKH where Matt dropped in that first sparked off the whole new expansion project Main thread on AoC Zone about Forgotten Empires Although there are other threads as well. [edit] I'm pretty sure I've seen a thread on TL somewhere with some stuff about it found it

CoH disappointed me and Age of Empires Online turned out to be a pay-to-play mess that the developers are not developing any more new content for. This really turned me off of the game because it doesn't even have replay or spectator support... Seriously! A Real Time Strategy game in this modern era without replay support. Here's what I know about AOE2 servers online: - Voobly is the most respected server/client for playing AOE2 and AOFE.It has a ranking system and is a lot more competitive than the others. It's a lot more like what iCCup/Fish is like for BW. - Gameranger is used by many more people but is considered the more 'casual' option. I don't know whether it has rankings or not but generally Voobly seems to be used more by the competitive scene. - GameSpy Arcade used to be good but is considered a ghost-town nowadays. Is there more I should know before delving into Age of Forgotten Empires? Anyway, I recently heard of ZeroEmpires and his game commentary. Here's a game he casted between TheViper and DreaIVIS. He's already made the game look more exciting than most of the SC2 games I've watched over the last six months.

Turns out AoFE came out a few days ago and according to many has been pretty damn good. I got extremely bored of StarCraft II, feel like I don't have the mechanical prowess to even touch Brood War, and have been looking for another game to get my RTS-fix. I loved AoE2, and I am stoked to find out that there's a new expansion. I'm going to call up my old buddy I used to play it with in High school and have some nostalgic games. Plus watching those good dudes play that ZeroEmpires casts is pretty entertaining. Thanks!

I'd say in terms of competitive RTS it's probably third to Brood War and SC2. There isn't much of a tournament scene at the mo and it only got featured for three years at WCG (in the Challenge tourney, 2001 and 2002) before getting replaced with Age of Mythology, but it is a growing competitive game.
