Greetings Troopers!
Well it has been a long time coming, but it is finally here. The Rebel Defiance First Strike Campaign will kick off this Sunday with the first round of battles, and we are now officially opening registration to this ongoing event to the public. If you want to experience some serious First Strike battle action this is the place you want to be.
We'll also be doing things a bit differently this time with registration not being a compulsory factor in you being able to take part. We want to give everyone who wants to give it a try the opportunity to check it out without having to commit to the event, though obviously there will be advantages to having more registered players on your team, so it'll be totally up to you. You can find out more on this subject by heading over to the new dedicated Rebel Defiance server website which will be where you need to go to register should you wish to do so, and find out the latest news about the campaign.
First Strike campaigns have proven very successful in the past as most players love the mod, but find it hard to get together with other players at the same time to enjoy some well populated games, so the hope is that this campaign event will help eleviate the problem, and get more people exposed to this great mod.
So what are you waiting for? Head over to

![[image loading]](http://www.fsmod.com/img/img/RD_Campaign_sml.jpg) The Imperial Stormtroopers reached the outskirts of Mos Entha quickly, though some confusion led to a Lambda shuttle clipping a small outbuilding and crashing in to the sands below, killing all those on board. In the middle of the town, smoke billowed up towards the night sky from the remains of smashed buildings that the Rebel ship had ploughed through during descent.
The Imperials moved cautiously towards the wreck, the town surprisingly quiet given what had recently happened. As they approached the ship it became obvious that it had somehow managed to settle itself over a natural rift that ran through this area, forming a natural pocket from which the Alliance soldiers could exit. They set up a small perimeter and moved quickly to secure the area. Something felt wrong though, why weren't there any Rebels here to defend their ship? It was all wrong. One of the Stormtroopers volunteered to find them, gut instinct already telling him that they would already be moving towards the town entrance in order to try and make their escape. He moved quickly between the buildings towards the area, and was rewarded with the sight of distance shadows scurrying back and forth. He leveled his E11 blaster and fired, the bright red laser beam sped forward and struck its target, ripping through muscle and bone. The first casualty of the latest galactic campaign crumpled to the floor and the galaxy found itself at war once more.
A stunning opening to the newest campaign, our numbers were small but it was still a pretty good turnout for this time of year. We were a little bugged with some server side glitches, but we have already identified the issue and are working quickly to resolve it before the next round. The maps played this week were:
Tatooine Mos Entha
Null Sensor Station
Escape from Hoth
ROUND 1: TATOOINE MOS ENTHA
![[image loading]](http://www.fsmod.com/img/img/NICC_EME.png)
Mos Entha was played in fine style, with the Rebels choosing to drop the defence of their wreck site in order to try and take the Town Entrance and move forward from there. This is always a risky strategy since it means that you leave yourself in danger of being bottle necked into that area. They made some bold advances to Trash Dump, but were soon beaten back. Surrounded on two sides they were unable to break out again and lost the first round.
ROUND 2: NULL SENSOR STATION
![[image loading]](http://www.fsmod.com/img/img/NICC_NSS.png)
Null Sensor Station was quite a skirmish, with some players racking up a number of kills. It was obvious that we had some new players on (definitely not a bad thing!) who found it difficult to know exactly where to go. The Imperials lost two flags and were left with only the hangar, but managed to claw one back. For some reason the Rebels chose to stay on the roof rather than take back the yard, perhaps this cost them in the long run as it meant Imperials were able to keep the ticket bleed. A close run thing at times, but chalk another victory to the Imperials.
ROUND 3: ESCAPE FROM HOTH
![[image loading]](http://www.fsmod.com/img/img/NICC_EFH.png)
An old classic, but still enjoyable, the first round finished with Escape from Hoth. A few instructions were passed on to make sure everyone understood the map and then we got underway. Imperials obviously had only one thing on their minds, destruction of those Rebel Transports, choosing not to defend the Star Destroyer guns and to stick with TIE Bombers. Ignoring fighters, they moved as a group to deliver as many torpedoes as quickly as possible. The Rebellion did its best to defend against this onslaught, sending only a single Y-Wing to take out the guns while using the rest of their manpower to man the transport guns. Alas, the Imperials were able to deliver too many warheads with so much open space and the first ship soon fell. This left the Rebels able to concentrate everyone on the one ship and maintain a solo starfighter escort. This certainly made a difference as TIE after TIE fell under the barrage. With only meters to go though, they finally managed to sink the final warhead in to the Gallofree, ensuring yet another victory.
This campaign runs a little differently to previous ones, and details can be found over at rebeldefiance.clanteam.com, however its ten points for a win, 5 for a loss and half a point dropped for each unregistered player. This means at the end of the first week Imperials lead with 29 points while rebels have a healthy 12 ½. If you check the rules you will also see that this campaign runs on a results defined basis, so depending who wins a map affects which maps are played next. As the Imps took all three, it means that the next maps to be played on 30th December will be:
Tatooine Mos Espa
Battle of Ryloth
Battle of Taloraan
Make sure you get registered on the forums to help your team out and get more up to date news on the campaign! We may delay the next round until after the holidays if enough of our players request it, so stay tuned for further updates.

Greetings Troopers!
![[image loading]](http://www.fsmod.com/img/img/RD_Campaign_sml.jpg) A slightly smaller news update this week, just to keep you all updated with news of the campaign.
This second round was delayed a little due to the holidays and that reflected in the number of players, barely managing to scrape above eight. Perhaps this is what saw a swing in the results, with Rebels almost taking a clean sweep.
ROUND 1: TATOOINE MOS ESPA
![[image loading]](http://media.moddb.com/images/articles/1/119/118071/auto/gpm_cq_16_menumap-1.png)
Mos Espa was played first, a firm fan favourite this also makes it a very difficult map to gain an advantage, since so many of our vets know each and every alley. Due to the low player numbers the rebels were at a numbers disadvantage, FSDev Twigs who is co-ordinating the campaign has retained the right to play on either team where this occurs. This week then saw him take the rebels side making it slightly more balanced at 5 to 4 in the Empire's favour. The Alliance troopers made quick work of the Empire's advance, quickly forcing them back before taking the final flag.
ROUND 2: BATTLE OF RYLOTH
![[image loading]](http://www.fsmod.com/img/img/NICC_BoR.png)
On to Ryloth, a rarely played map these days due to it's imposing size. The 16 player map does make an interesting challenge for the Imperials though, being forced to try and drive a squadron of Firehawke tanks into the Rebels defensive position. Once again the Alliance held up against the team to take another victory.
ROUND 3: BATTLE OF TALORAAN
![[image loading]](http://www.fsmod.com/img/img/NICC_BoT.png)
Finally, Taloraan, an all out slugfest in space. The idea here is to destroy the opposition's capital ships before you lose your own, and as simple as it sounds there are a lot of tactics here. Lose your freighter and you lose the ability to repair both capital and fighter craft, and also to rearm your fighters with torpedoes.
With their more heavily armed fighters the Rebels chose to try and buzz the Imperials for as long as possible without exposing their own assets. Forced in to making a run towards the Alliance, the Imperial flotilla quickly broke apart leaving that all important freighter exposed and allowing a multitude of warheads to smash against its hull. As they closed towards the Rebel position, a few of the Alliance pilots swapped in to their CR-90 Corvette and manoeuvred it over the freighter to grant precious cover from any onslaught the Imperials could bear down on it. As they Empire's flotilla drew within striking distance, the Corvette's turbolaser batteries opened up, quickly raking into the enemy freighter and tearing through its hull. A distant blast signaled the end of the ship and the rebels turned their attention to the approaching Imperial Lancer. Already sensing a third decisive victory, they powered up the engines and moved forward to engage the enemy one on one. Sadly, this also signaled the end of the Rebels presence in the Taloraan system. Eager to engage what they decided was a weakened enemy, they had forgotten their proximity to their own Gallofree freighter. As they powered up the engines and turned towards the remnants of the Imperial Navy, the CR-90's hull impacted on the Gallo's hull, instantly causing a chain reaction in both ships engines that sent a shockwave racing through the planetary system. The Empire was able to recover its forces and count this as a lucky victory.
Final scores for this second round saw Rebels take 25 points and Imperials 17 due to a couple of unregistered players knocking their tally down. Overall, this means the Rebels have now closed the gap with 37 1/2 points while Imperials clutch to the lead with 46.
Strangely, the results system of this campaign mean that the third round will be played on:
Ryloth
Lok
Bandomeer
We have also been asked by players to start at the slightly earlier time of 2000 GMT, this will take place as of round three, starting 13th January.
See you on the battlefield then troopers!
