Soo do you know any other competative RTS that are still played. I know theres like CC, but how competative is it's scene if it has one and I know AoE 2 had a scene, but I think it's dead : /
Soo my question is besides BW, SC2 and WC 3 what other competitive RTS games are there around?
And with the names game also list what makes it competative and if it's actually worth playing,

None of them have a community prestigious enough to make accomplishments within them feel worthwhile. The problem with playing a game competitively, when you've played a "more competitive" game of the same genre before is that you'll never really feel good about accomplishments in the easier game, since you know its not as good as if you were doing the same in the more competitive game.
Not to mention, non-Blizzard RTS games are noticeably lower quality and have more glaring balance problems. The games are less fun, they are less balanced and they don't give you the same competitive satisfaction as a Blizzard RTS.
We've all been down this road before, and it always brings you back to the same place: Blizzard RTS games.

I don't agree with the "less fun" part.
How about SupCom, I think there's still a lot of people playing that? DOW2 is reasonable competitive, probably still got a fair few players since I see things about tournaments quite often. Also CoH. I'll rack my brains some more...

I remember when I was really small, I use to play SC while everyone else played a myriad of RTSes like red alert, c&c etc. they use to criticize me for not being open to play the real games. Well, i guess we all know which game wins the RTS award.

You just utterly vindicated them.

Rofl.
AoE2 is far from dead. We still have tournaments with large prizepools over at www.aoczone.net, and there's always people to play on Voobly, Garena, and many other LAN Servers. Most of the tip-top players still play, like Chris, Grunt, Kyo and Tim.
I dunno why you'd think it's dead.

I tink AoE is the only one.
As a massive command and conqure fan who owns EVERY game I think I can say that the scene for C&C is all but dead. While Westwood was making the games it was alive but EA was the bullet to the brain
|
World in Conflict is also worth a mention, brilliant game. There's still people playing but I'm not sure how many in a competitive sense. Also it's very much a team game, unlike SC2.
|
CoH was pretty good for a time and it still has a scene but those guys are split over DoW II and CoH.
The CnC scene is dead but I don't think it was ever that good.

Dawn of War 2:Retribution is excellent imo. it gets a bad rep for previous bugs and imbalances. I must stress that most of these have been fixed. I think the next patch will solve all (It's already regarded as fairly balanced, just a couple of bugs to fix). The player base is small compared to SC2 of course but it is dedicated and overall improvements are being made to make it easier for new players, organise more tournaments, and put out more content. Gamereplays.org are looking after that and are the main portal for DoW2 stuff. Although the player base is small its easy to get games (especially on European times) and the game is intense and really fun. Also 2v2 and 3v3 are very viable game modes. Actually the gameplay is a bit inbetween a classic RTS and a MOBA game, it's quite unique.
Here's my favourite caster for talking through the games complexities, you could check it out. http://www.dowreplays.net/
PS the learning curve is very steep and takes a lot of time to learn, but put 100 or so hours into multiplayer and the game becomes pure awesomeness.

By grunt, do you mean iamgrunt who used to play Aoe3? Because I loved that guy.

Well, Company of Heroes is by far my favorite Non-Blizzard RTS. I mean, they have no dreamhack or anything -- but there's still quite the crowd out there for it. Perhaps even DoW has something still going.

I would have suggested the Dawn of War series however...
I literally stopped playing this game couple months back because the imbalances are so glaring that it just wasn't worth playing anymore. The game is _heavily_ balanced around space marines vs chaos, and anyone who plays other races outside them (and imperial guard now), will find themselves extremely frustrated at the game. The game doesn't account for the veterancy bonus of high HP units like tactical marines vs low HP constant req. drain of low HP squads like that of Tyranid and Orks.
The game itself has a very great idea, however, I can't see this game evolving into a competitive RTS. All Relic really does is focus on adding more races to an already imbalanced game, because the game prides itself on graphics and the WH40k universe rather than balance and competition.

Ô_Ô didnt know that it was still alive..
I actually downloaded it a few months ago, no way to get it to work on Vista 64bit though Remember it said something about Direct Draw-support or something like that..
Shame, I really enjoyed that game

Delay as in lag? you can get some for sure, more than SC2 because of the player size. It is sometimes forced to match you vs higher ping. It can be about 200-300 ms before it gets unplayable. It's not a massive problem but not as smooth as SC2. The game actually freezes when there is a lag spike so you dont issue commands in the wrong order, hmm I don't know if that's explained well but it's a nifty feature. In SC2 when you get lag the game slows down then speeds up really fast to catch up so you click at wrong times. This doesn't happen with DoW2, but due to the freezing on lag spikes it gets a bit slideshowy. It's more of an annoyance but it's not so common outside of custom 3v3s when you end up playing vs people from all different zones. Steam does disconnect quite often though, that's really annoying I must say. For team games it's better to find a partner you know has a good connection and stick with them for ranked.
@kinqway I'm not sure I agree with that. Currently I think all the races have good points. SM is not considered OP really. probably Chaos and Imperial Guard are the ones that come up in polls but it's not a big deal. I would say maybe tyranids were overnerfed but then maybe it's just a case of their meta has to develop.
Last patch was a big one and some changes need to be scaled back a bit (SM apothecary regen, some Chaos units are the main issues). but these are well known and already addressed (but the patch is not released yet). If these were fixed I think we wouldn't see much balance complaints anymore. the balance designer has done a good job the last 3 months or so.

Yea, same here. I find it one of the most exciting to watch competitively too. Not watch competitively, but watch competitive games of.
I just find the small scale combat and intense micro situations, along with that excellent cover system and destructible terrain so epic to watch.
For everything else there's SC.

Company of Heroes is a bit hard to get into for me although it is great. Apparently there is still a pretty active community, again I would say Gamereplays.org is the first stop for looking to get into that. I got CoH and the 1st expansion for €1.50 on steam. It's more or less free2play nowadays. Relics next big RTS will be CoH2 or DoW3 most likely (most people think CoH2). So maybe getting into it a bit now could give you a taste for the future release (it might be spectacular, but knowing Relic they will need 3 years to unbug it )
