If there is any sense of karmic justice in the NBA or if Basketball Jesus was a real person/deity - a real team with get that 1st pick. Like Phoenix or Houston. I hope Charlotte gets the 5th pick overall. I hope they get contracted for being an abortion of an NBA team.

Washington, Cleveland, New Orleans and Sacramento I have no problem with. Golden State and New Jersey, I have kind of a problem with.

3. The Heat not trying and losing by 34 to the Wizards.

4. The Nets disgustingly tanking a game vs the Raptors and losing by 31!

5. Cleveland being terrible and losing by 32 to the Bulls.

6. Dallas losing a must-win game by 17 to the Hawks.

7. Denver crushing the hapless Timberwolves by 29.

I'm serious... has there ever been a worse night of basketball ever played? I don't think so. The league should be embarressed.

While I am an advocate of tanking as the best way for teams to build a contender, the tanking on display this year has been a blight on the league--to the point they seriously need to look at doing something about it.

There were nine teams trying in the East this year (lol Bucks...) and I'll conceed 11 in the West. The others just mailed it in for the rest of the year in a race to the bottom and it just sucks the competitiveness out of the league. I dunno about everyone else, but I probably skipped 95% of games after the AS break as it was a fete-accompli what was going to happen.

They need to tweak the lotto IMO so fringe teams aren't punished for trying to make the Playoffs.

Well the lottery itself is unfair because the worst team in the NBA has only had the top pick one time that I can remember (Cleveland when they drafted Lebron James). And fringe teams have gotten lucky in the past in getting top picks. As a Bulls fan, it was incredible when they just missed the playoffs and then got the top pick with something like a 2% chance.

Something does need to be done though. Going to a normal draft system like every other major sport would work best I think. Part of the reason teams mail it in after the all-star break is because they know the worse they are the better chance they have at the top pick because of how the lottery works. If it was a normal draft where the worst team gets the first pick and everything is based on record I think teams would not mail it in as much if they are middle of the pack. Teams on the fringe would try harder to make the playoffs because losing more games would not make a big difference on their draft position.

Basically it is a terrible system in general and it does not help that the NBA has the largest gap between the top teams and the worst teams compared to the NFL, MLB, and NHL.

It's a tricky solution... You want picks to go to bad teams to give them hope for the future. But in a deep draft, as this year is projected to be, there is just too much incentive for teams to tank for high picks and it has made this year incredibly ugly to watch. The major issues I see:

a) there are too many NBA teams considering the talent available. I think the NBA could afford to contract easily but this obviously isn't going to happen, so;

b) give some ping-pong balls the 7 and 8 seeds in the Playoffs. I'm not talking about alot, but maybe, 1-2% worth. That way you can give fringe teams an incentive to keep winning and pushing for the Playoffs while also getting a chance of some top talent in the draft.

c) extend the lottery to the top 5 picks and then in order of where teams finished.

Good/bad, what do people think?

The NBA doesn't draft like other sports because it makes no sense. 1 superstar player has an amazing effect on the league. The system is bad but doing a Snake Draft with 30 teams that could trade draft picks will result in the same shit that happened in the 70s and 80s: The rich teams paying for extra picks while unloading crap in "money saving" deals to the smaller teams.

Playoff time awwww yaaaaa. Most excited i've ever been. Would be happy to see a Bulls-Lakers championship game. Will be rooting against the Heat at every turn, just cause I'd like to see the master plan of the big three fail again.

So excited about those playoffs. I really think the Spurs are coming out of the West this year, anything less would be a pretty big disappointment.

All series are looking great, Memphis/LA, Denver/LA and OKC/Dallas in particular. Hope the Spurs sweep Utah.

I've said it before and I'll say it again the West is a major toss up this year. The first round is the only place where realistic predictions can be made.

Here's mine.

Utah vs Spurs = Spurs in 5. Utah is simply too good at home to be swept by this San Antonio team but with the way San Antonio is playing I just don't think Utah has much chance here to actually take the series.

Lakers vs Nuggets = Lakers in 6. The Nuggets have shown that they can beat the Lakers by upping the tempo all season long and with Artest out of the line up the Nuggets can go to Danilo Galinari more who's playing once again like he was in the early season, but with the Lakers' size being a bigger advantage typically in the playoffs than it is in the regular season the Lakers should be able to wrap it up in 6.

Clippers vs Grizzlies = Grizzlies in 6. The Grizzlies are for real, and down low they have a huge advantage over the young Clippers frontcourt. It would take some ridiculous heroics from Chris Paul for the Clippers to somehow come away with this series. The backcourts for both teams are about even with Paul being the one real advantage the Clippers have here.

Thunder vs Mavericks = Thunder in 5. This one all comes down to how much fight the Mavericks have left in them. Their roster is good enough on paper to actually beat the Thunder and there is no team except maybe the Lakers or Celtics that have more playoff experience than this Mavericks squad does. But against the energy and athletiticism of OKC the Mavericks have to give it their all like it's the finals to come away here. I don't think they're up to it.

Who are the 11 in the west? I don't see how its not 12 unless you're counting portland and ignoring wolves. Wolves COULDN'T tank this year, but without rubio, ridnour and K.Love (and an unhealthy Pek) you're saying 4 starters injured leaving you a team of role players worse than miami's. And we've seen how bad miami did without the big 3.

Edit: If portland were tanking (possible after trade deadline) they didn't do a great job of it...

Top 8 + Houston, Phoenix and Minny (at least till Rubio went down. Even then they still tried). Portland tanked hard when they realised they weren't going anywhere.

I'm just going to assume that means you didn't watch a single portland game this season, they went into tank mode until mid feb, when they were still over .500 and and they had already suffered a bunch of tough, close game, losses.

even still, they weren't really tanking, the back court was just playing likr utter shit, and wallace couldn't hit a shot on the road if his life depended on it.

look, all I'm saying is I'd rather have any portland team over any minnesota team, since the garnett trade.

anyways, all these teams tanking is still better than houstans position. 9th three years running, talk about being stuck in purgatory.
