Look like some other people have said already. What Artest did wasn't anywhere near as bad as some other fouls that have already occurred this season.
Blake Griffin has been on the receiving end of at least three hard flagrant 2s that have been worse and more dangerous than what Artest did to Harden today and he's still playing and people are telling him to toughen up.
You want to start banning players from the playoffs just because of their history? Get out of here with that shit. A foul is a foul is a hard foul that gets punished according to the rulebook and the NBA makes the decisions.
Love got away with a 2 game suspension, Artest deserves no more than that.

I can't believe you're even going to go there and compare terrible fouls. It doesn't matter if it isn't worse than some other shit: it's an elbow to the head.
|
METTA WORLD WARR !! ! ! !!
Has to be gone for atleast most of the first round of the playoffs. ATLEAST. Harden was getting in his business but thats nothing out of the ordinary, Flinging an elbow like that is so blatantly thuggish its disgusting. And Im a massive Lakers fan.
Pretty sure Harden was good to come back. Hes pretty tough, I hope Westbrook learns his place tbh. Its sad that someone can be that freakishly quick with and without the ball and not know how and when to pass. 2 gaurd playing PG playoff disaster waiting to happen.

This is the same league where Gilbert Arenas is allowed to continue playing when he's bringing fire arms into locker rooms.
This is the same league that has a history of short periods of violence in games that was once accepted as nothing more than part of the game.
You guys need a reality check. Artest is going to be punished, he's going to be suspended, but to ban him from the playoffs is just over the top. When you calm down, and start blaming this tough loss on something other than the elbow you'll come to realize that.

What Bynum did to Barea last year was three times worse than what Artest just did to Harden and he was suspended for FOUR games.
How in the world do you justify a straight ban on Artest when Bynum received a four game suspension for a MUCH worse offense? You justify that on his history when this is his first offense in several years? Sorry I'm not buying that.

Ok it seems you are having trouble understanding.
What someone else did is irrelevant here. Artest committed a flagrant foul that was an ELBOW TO THE HEAD.
ETA: And I never said anything about banning him.

Harden used to think flagrant fouls were funny until he took an elbow to the head.

I'm saying that anyone that does this crap needs to be given harsher penalties. In artest case, his past need to betaken into consideration. He is clearly an issue. I also think the wet willy guy needs to be removed as well. This Is a job. Not a place for thuggery. It's disrespectful to the game

I can't believe you are trying to downplay an elbow to the head. If I had to seriously hurt someone without a foreign object, I'm pretty sure elbow to the head would be near the top of the list for things I would choose.
It's really, really dangerous and honestly I don't think being banned for most of the playoffs would be uncalled for.

ETA: And I never said anything about banning him. Only you have to treat everyone in the league fairly, and giving Artest a harsher penalty than other players who have had lighter sentences for worse penalties isn't fair. Ofc what he did was wrong, but suggesting much worse penalties when other players get off with less would be unfair. That's all anyone is saying.

I'm not saying that doesn't warrant punishment. It does. I'm not arguing against that at all.
But with the way the NBA currently punishes players for inappropriate conduct on the court, a ban is completely unjustified (especially when Harden was cleared to return in the second half.) Artest will get a maximum of a 4 game suspension and a hefty fine.

It doesn't matter what other people did. An elbow to the head is a fucking elbow to the head. Make that an INTENTIONAL elbow to the head which YOU tried to call as James Harden's fault. Huh, makes me wonder who really needs the reality check.
And history matters on how harsh the punishment is. You don't get life imprisonment for stealing one time, but repeated offenses can lead to that punishment in certain states. The NBA should be no different. Artest has a history of legal problems and violence problems. He is a danger to other players on the court, and he's proven it time and time again. He deserves to be punished harshly this time. Some playoff suspension should be minimal imo.

Fairly is not equally. Artest has a history of this crap. Other players don't... yet. Once they do, I'm all for harsher punishment. Otherwise, we might get a Saints team in the NBA.

I'm not downplaying anything more than the rest of you are blowing it out of proportion.
What Robin Lopez did to Blake Griffin two days ago was MUCH more dangerous than what Artest just did to Harden, and I don't even think he was suspended at all for that. You're going to try and justify a straight ban of Artest from the playoffs when Lopez wasn't even suspended for that foul?
Get real.

In other news, Spurs only need to go .500 for their last 4 games to claim the top seed in the west.
Heck, they could even tie the Bulls at this point. Not sure who has the tiebreaker.

So you're asking the NBA to make up special punishment for Artest JUST based on his history.
That's unlikely to happen. I hope you realize that.
