Right now he is a horrific defender. On April 17 2012 14:50 Jerubaal wrote: My comparison to to Noah was that they both can only lay-up/in and dunk. Ibaka at least has a decent jumpshot. So I'm not sure why Ibaka deserves the hate and not the one-trick pony. Because Blake can do way more than just lay-up/in and dunk. He has a nice Tim Duncanish mid range bank shot. Also he can take you off the dribble as his ball handling is way above average for a big man.

Might be biased due to Hayward playing SC2, but still - they have had a lot of cool games this season (and I think they might take a game or two from OKC/Spurs) I actually want them to take the spot too, altho I didnt watch a whole lot of their games.

Blake is a gifted offensive player in that he has ridiculous athleticism and strength that he uses to attack the basket and finish where many other players wouldn't be able to. It's not just power, often there is an impressive amount of body control that goes into the crazy shots he makes. As someone else said, his ball-handling is quite good for a PF, and his passing ability is also above average for a big. He came into the league with a decent mid-range jumper, but he seems to have lost it this season. His shooting mechanics are solid, so I personally believe that it's something he can work on, bring back, and even improve upon. Right now, I see him as Amare with better passing/ball-handling, but worse shooting ability. Blake definitely needs to work a lot on his defensive awareness and effort. Part of me suspects that he may just be expending too much energy on offense at the expense of his defense, because there are many times where he looks tired on defense and then suddenly busts out with an aggressive drive or putback on the other end. One positive is that he has been blocking more shots this season, which is a step in the right direction because there's no reason he can't be a great shotblocker with his athleticism.

But that having been said his athleticism alone means he can make plays that a conventional try hard should basically be incapable of making. As for defense. I just think he doesnt have the basketball IQ to be honest. Better coach wouldnt hurt either.

What the fuck?!? It's fine to not like Blake. And he's full of shortcomings. But you must be kidding me. But you think Bargnani, Millsap, Josh Smith and Garnett are not just better but unquestionably better? What numbers are you using? What sport are you watching? What paint are you huffing?
