My experience in silver is limited to 2 placements matches, because I used to play 1.6 and got placed in AK ranks, but from those two games and what I saw on Destiny's stream I can assure you that if your aim is decent and you don't play too risky (because even at silver going 1V4 often ends up with you dying), you'll climb to AK really quickly.

The biggest thing to take from this is that always keep your crosshair at headshot level and always have your crosshair at where an enemy could potentially be. I still see people fuck this shit up, even at DMG level (where I was at one time....)

I like the idea of playing with people I know, and I've noticed that when I play with my friends I don't get shot in the back as often.

Unless you are talking about being shot at spawn deliberately, in which case it's rare that I've seen it happen to someone who wasn't being an asshole in chat or mike.

That said, don't focus too much on fancy smoke/flashbang throws, just learn the very basic ones and focus a lot on improving your aim and crosshair placement if you want to improve. This comment is 100% true for anyone new reading this. Buddy of mine was DMG after 3 weeks of playing, and I've still never seen him buy a grenade, sometimes doesn't even buy armor. It's all from his aim gained from years of Sudden Attack previously. So yeah, grenades mean nothing until the top levels I've learned.

Also, my last two games of MM (premade!) have been terrible. One game two of my teammates decide to leave midgame (and we were up 10-4 T side Nuke mind you) and the game todaywas us (1 silver 4, 2 gold nova 2, 1 single AK and 1 unranked) up against (2 gold nova 4, 2 single AK and 1 double AK). Where's the logic in that MM algorithm.

It was really good odds (70-30) too. That's it, that would've been a great start into me betting on CSGO but I'm not doing it. Too aggravating with shitty providers such as csgolounge. Same, it kept saying "Bots are offline, please try again" "All queues are full, please try again" So frustrating even though I had a good feeling that they would win too

My friends are like "lets play CS" and I'm like "I'm just going to miss a million super-fucking-ez shots and feel like a shitbag even if we win :/" I'll tell you what's worked for me so far (bear in mind that I'm only GN1). Partly reworking my crosshair to be what I want, I use classic with a thin outline so I can see it against bright backgrounds---not the only option, better than the default. Then, playing an offline DM with no bots enabled and just working on countering spray patterns for the first 10-15 bullets. Get really familiar with how far off your crosshair each bullet is likely to fly, counteract that. Practice at different distances, just shooting at walls. Then play DM until you can consistently get a positive KDR with the AK and M4. Place crosshair to headshot with 1st bullet, then pull to counter spray patterns. Tinker with mouse sensitivity, precision over speed. Then just play competitive. Deselect the maps you don't want to deal with.
