Im 2 Stars right now and Ive been Mid Master in Starcraft2 many many times. It was always very easy for me and it took a long time (Mid Master) till I hit some kind of skill ceiling where I would have had to put much more effort into it to continue getting better at the game. And when I went inactive for a while I was Master again within 2 weeks.

CS GO is different for me. I just suck at this game. Big time. Cant do anything about it either^^. My aim is bad and I dont have the patience and the calmness (mostly in my arms and hands ) that are needed to be decent at this game. One big reason simply might be talent or experience. I never have played an EGO-Shooter competitively before whereas I played quite a lot of War3. And I liked playing strategy games as a child cause I was good at it. I was never exceptionally good at shooters though.

On the other hand there might be a lot of other reasons which might contribute to this. I wanted to get better in Starcraft2. I watched replays, streams and I played to get better. I dont do that in CS GO. I just dont put the same amout of effort in that I did in Sc2.

And my Equipment sucks for CS GO. My screen is bad for Ego-Shooters (was quite cheap ) and I cant see shit on long range. I dont have a great headset but a bad sound system, so my enemies hear me way ahead, even when im going slowly. Is that even a thing? I wouldnt know cause I cant hear shit. No surround sound either. So please dont ask me where the shot came from . And last but not least, I just like playing with a high sensitivity mouse. Did so in Sc2, I do so in CS GO. But as a result I just suck at aiming especially with an awp. When i move my mouse one tiny bit it jumps 4 Counterstrike people to the left or to the right. Thats bad when you want to hit something with an awp. And yet I cant stand a low sensitivity setup.

All in all Id say CS GO is way harder for me. Doesnt mean that it's the same for another person. A friend of mine played a lot of ego-shooters and no strategy games whatsoever. He wouldnt stand a chance in Sc2 but probably own me in CS Go within a month.

Ideal sensitivity is 400 dpi 2.5 in game, or 800 dpi 1.5 in game, with windows at 6/11 (around 1000 true sens). If you start there and slowly increase it or decrease it based on your liking you will see a huge improvement.
Sensitivity is a personal preference. Personally I use 750cpi and 0.66sens with 6/11, and that feels just about right to me, but you could also do 1600cpi and 0.3sens and you'd basically have the same sens, just with a different level of granularity in the radial values. I will agree though that most people could see huge benefits by lengthening their overall cm/360° to something larger (I'm at like 90cm/360° or so).

Alright. I loved watching CS during WCG's past, and now I'm gonna get into the Dreamhack competition. Someone help me; who are the teams to look out for, who are the loveable losers, who is just bad? What's the difference between GO and what they used to play at WCG? What's the most basic thing I should know to follow along?

Top three teams coming into the tournament were NiP, VeryGames and Astana Dragons. Coppenhagen Wolves just beat Astana Dragons in convincing fashion and they stomped on SK (who aren't very good atm though tbh).

Aside from them there's Fnatic and Complexity (Complexity beat VeryGames in a bo1 in a real close match).

Are CTs very favored on this map, or is Astana Dragons just flaming out?

Nuke is really CT favoured but it isn't Astana's best map and they aren't playing well.

edit: they ended up with a decent score at the half.

A bit of both. It's a CT favoured map but Astana also isn't playing well.

The match earlier this morning, I live in the USA EST, between compLexity and VeryGames was one of the most epic matches that I've watched in CS:GO. The best part was watching twitch's chat flood with "USA USA" chants every time coL won a round. . . Never felt good to be an Murican! The castors were pretty good, but they said some crazy things sometimes. For example, "They will do what France did before and retreat." Not the exact quote, but is that not borderline discriminating?

I love the asymmetry of CS. The game is inherently balanced since both teams play on each side the same amount of times. But the balance of the maps seems usually really favored to one side and that puts so much pressure on one side at any given time, which makes the game really dramatic. Plus, with how snowbally the game is, it makes little advantages (just getting a few kills even if you lose the round, or living to the end) so much bigger. It's an exciting esport, I dunno how big CS is right now, but I hope it becomes really big.

CS and Quake have always been the most exciting shooters in gaming I feel. Most maps in CSGO don't seem that one sided but I'm not that familiar with go.

Nuke is way too CT favored though. Every map is skewed slightly one way or the other but Nuke is heavily CT favored. I don't like it at all.

I think it's fine in a BoX but in a Bo1 game it does feel a bit iffy.

Well each team had 2 vetoes, should've gotten rid of it then. I like CT/T favored maps, balanced maps would just make it boring
