Thats what i always felt and i couldnt convey in a single line. I kinda miss underdog tactics from CS 1.6. Even the best teams could lose to a total whacko/suprise tactics (map glitches, towers, huge risk/reward plays). And the momentum shifts were pretty amazing. Also sad to see Neo being such a crappy CS GO player, he was my role model for all the time since 2003, it just feels so wrong to see him make rookie mistakes, he used to be the last person in the universe to do so.

If it helps, I played at a pretty high regional level from 2000-2004, stopped FPS completely for 8 years, played a dozen hours and I'm Master Guardian 1 after 11 games. My aim is shit, my movement is suicidal and far from optimal to spray/have a good precision, I don't know the maps, but I'm "experienced". Can't really define it. Always played in max res since I want to *see* people... never got the 640*480 trend, it was so hard to align people from afa precisely.., and mouse sensitivity isn't what is hindering bad people unless it's WAY off. You are NOT going to insta-180-headshot people at low stars, the occasionnal super-headshot isn't what is going to make or break your rank. You only have to aim carefully and learn to pre-place your mouse where people should be. It's much more important than fast/precise aim. Then you only have to adjust. It's like in SC, macro is more important than micro to learn the game. Positioning and preparing for opponents to appear > pure aim at low levels. (such a low rank pisses me off though, since I'm competitive by nature, I'll put in a month of work to get "back" to something like eagle master or so. This mentality caused me never to play multiplayer yet in War3, SC2 or Dota2 cause I know I can't invest the time to be *good* anymore (real life+wow already), and I can't bear being average to bad. But the previous years means I don't have to start from scratch in CS so it should be pretty fast.)

One time I dropped a rank in between sessions that were a few days apart, as if it decayed over the course of a few days.

It would be in the top~25% if each rank has the same % of players (which I doubt), meaning barely in high diamond ? Sadly the CS population is not exactly full of newcomers, there's a LOT of old-timers. Somehow that sound quite low in comparison with SC, so I'd rather tell mid-masters purely out of my ass -_-
