Hello friends. I was going to try Path of Exile sometime this week, and really wanted to just dive in headfirst. Is there a good place to do some reading, or particular YouTube videos I should watch so I don't start off on the wrong foot?
LiftingNerdBro's beginner videos. I would start here; the videos are fairly recent and well made, but only 3 videos.
ZiggyD's beginner videos. These videos are quite old, but they go over all of the basics of the game and are more comprehensive.
First thing you should do is pick a class you like (both playlists go over the classes), then find a build. Some people think it's better for new players to go in blind, but I think a little help goes a long way
2.3 Prophecy Launch Compendium - Lots of good links here; the important section here is the "Collection of build guides". Check the official forum of the class you want to use, or check out builds by popular streamers. Guides should have a leveling section to tell you how to progress, and a videos section to show you how the build plays. If you want suggestions on a build to play I can give you some based on your preferences.
Lastly some assorted tips:
- I'm not sure which options settings are default, but these I highly recommend:
- Graphics - Screen Shake OFF
- Sound - Channel Count HIGH
- UI - Networking Mode LOCKSTEP ; Show Corner Map, Always Highlight, Show Sockets, Show Life/Mana Values, Show Mini Life Bars on Allies/Enemies/Above You ON
- List of loot filters Loot filters are really handy, will highlight things that are important, making big sounds if something good drops, and hide things that are not useful. I recommend Neversink's, or if you want something closer to original color scheme ZiggyD or Sayya's.
- Make sure you use flasks, they are renewable, keep you alive. Also upgrade your flasks every 4-6 levels. (e.g. lvl6 you have Large Life Flasks, lvl12 you want to switch to Greater Life Flasks).
- After you complete a quest, you select a skill gem as a reward. You also can buy other skill gems from the potions vendor (Nessa in Act 1, Yeena in Act 2, etc.), so don't worry if you make a selection you later regret.
- poe.trade If you want to make a trade or find the value on something, use poe.trade. If you think you might have something valuable, should ask around so you don't get scammed. FYI valuable currency orbs are Chaos Orbs, Regal Orbs, Divine Orbs, and Exalted Orbs (very valuable) so don't spend those willy nilly.
- check the pathofexile wiki if you need to look something up
- Have fun! The game can be really challenging so don't be surprised if your first character goes poorly, but the game is very deep and rewarding. Let me know if you have any questions or ask people in our guild.

Would anyone be interested in doing a TL solo self found for 2 weeks or something?
Would prefer hardcore, but I am down to do it softcore if more people wanted to do that.
edit: guess not. I'll just play grim dawn until school starts then

there's a 48h solo flashback race, I'm probably going to do that
don't really want to do it this league since I need to finish grinding out the challenges, but maybe next league. ProjectPT's solo selfound series is inspiring. he found and 6linked shavs lmao

I'm still hacking and slashing in poe and other than grinding 100 I don't have much to do so I'm up just for fun's sake. ^^
Althgouh I'm not sure what you mean by TL ssf.

I'll probably play the 2days solo flashback tomorrow... Kinda feel like playing some PoE again. Will need to think about a build tomorrow though, hopefully I find something fun.

And chanced a fucking heretics + found a consuming dark. The three best items by far for low life essence drain.

Looks really interesting, loving the fact that we only have to wait 3 weeks for this. Might give facebreaker shield charge a try with those new rings.

The trailer was awesome but I really don't know what it means for game mechanics other than new content?
Also looks like maps may be gated behind other maps (as in actually completing them), which is something I like to be honest.

The idea is essentially that maps have a much more linear progression now rather than totally random like before. Which is a huge plus.

I wonder if you can skip ahead on the atlas by just buying higher tier maps from players, or for example doing uber lab and getting a bunch of maps. I'd prefer that personally but feels like it'd be sidestepping the whole Atlas mechanic
also not sure whether to play HC or SC next league.. HC is more fun for me I think, but the huge decline in player base past a few months is a bit disheartening

cant speak for anyone else, but i barely touched prophecy league. think i leveled one char to merc and that was it.

Yeah prophecy was a low for me too.
Map system "remake" and multithreading sounds pretty opop though. I'm hyped for sure. :3
