Quick note before I whip out final stats - playoff games are to be organized the same way as divisional play and played the same as well. EXCEPT for three things: these games are best of 5, not three; first map is Gnoll Wood - then you choose from the same map pool as before - plus Echo Islands.
Also there is somewhat of a schedule to make it easier to obs. 8pm est every night until Tuesday night (it being the last night) will be a time to meet for everyone to be able to meet and obs games. If this is the way you can complete your game PM me and leave a message in the thread for everyone stating what day you will be playing your opponent so people can watch. The other option: if you and your opponent can not meet from ~8-9pm est in the next 3 nights PM me letting me know when you will play. YOU MUST PM ME letting me know that you and your opponent have had contact and what's going on.
Okay some of the games over the past couple of nights went as follows:

Predictions: Akutsu in 3 games for obvious reasons. SoleSteeler in 4 because I think he was in an arguably better division and came away with the same record. KingOrlandu in 5 is the biggest guess of a choice - because Ghardo's only losses came to Akutsu, but I think overall Orlando's been in a more competitive division which may help him come playoffs. Of course then there's the fact that I've never seen Ghardo play.. And fizr in 4 for the last match. RoTaNiMoD's good but he's not as seasoned in TFT as fizr is. If he had began earlier this series may have been different.

March 02 19:40-Division done, possible new player..
Division C finished up as t0u defeated playterran 2:0 (TM,TR). This secures t0u 2nd place in his division and a spot in the final tournament. RoTaNiMoD defeated greywind 2:0 as well (TM,LT).
If you haven't played a game and still plan on participating you need to contact me soon - within 24 hours. If you haven't played and have an exscuse you should contact me as well - or just don't play in the next few tournaments. We have replacements who want to play and are on waiting (namely WaweR, former captain of Team Poland).
Also, if you still want to play and did not make it originally we may be eliminating a few people, so PM the registration information. That is if you think you can get the games done by Saturday! We'll take as many as we can.

March 01 19:55-On we go..
Group B got a huge amount of games done tonight:
Solesteeler defeated myLonelyCowboy 2:0(TM, TR) and imp0ster 2:0 (TM,TR). In the first 2:1 series during divisional play he was defeated by Orlandu 2:1 - Losing on TM as NEvH, winning on LT as H versus Orlandu's random Human and losing on TR in an NEvNE. Orlandu then defeated myLonelyCowboy 2:0 (TM,TR).
All these games minus a few were 1.17, so even though I hear of a couple of good games they aren't watchable. It's better that 1.18 came out now than later though, the best games are yet to come.

The first match in group b was played tonight - MyLonelyCowboy defeated imp0ster 2:0 on TM and LT.
Every series so far has been 2:0.

February 26 22:44-Divisional play has started.
Group A complete one bo3 - RoTaNiMoD defeated Doggies 2:0 on Twisted Meadows and Plunder Isle for some reason - even though it's not in the map pool. In Group C Fizr defeated Ssregine 2:0 (TM and Turtle Rock) and playterran 2:0 (TM and Gnoll Wood) and Ssregine defeated playterran 2:0 (TM, Gnoll Wood).
Today was full of a lot of "Oh sweet jesus, Aether's in this?" comments - all well deserved. But I know there are atleast some people around here who can and will give him a good game or two.. so get playing.
Quick update: Speaking of which Aether wins his first series, eh, quickly. In 6 minutes versus DuR on TM. DuR conceded the second game.

February 25 20:59 -And here we are. We have a perfectly round number of 16 for four groups of four. In this post I'll keep the standings updated and post whatever tournament related news needs to be posted. Be sure to look at the sign up thread if you have any questions on the format not answered in this thread.
The tournament will progress like this:
All players will play the rest of their division once in a best of three series. The first game is on Twisted Meadows. From there the loser chooses the next game from the map pool of Lost Temple, Gnoll Wood and Turtle Rock. If needed the loser of the second game chooses a map from the same pool - but the same map cannot be played twice in a series.
Reporting the games is pretty simple. The most important part is to save every replay. After the series send me a report stating who won, races and maps ALONG WITH the replays as an attached file. Send them to apexcp@gmail.com with the subject of "Tournament Report". The replays are required because afterward we'll hopefully be making a replay pack of the tournament's best games -- So in the report you can recommend a particularly good game if it occurred. You have 1 week to report - From today, Saturday the 26th until next Saturday!
After all divisional games are played the top two in each division will advance to the final playoff tournament. The seedings will be based on win's and losses - Whenever two players are tied the tie will be broken by the amount of "real" losses they had (i.e. A series won 2-1 would have 1 "real" loss but would be counted as a win overall.) If there is still a tie there will be a tiebreaker series (with all previous rules applying) for the higher seed.
To contact an opposing player you can use the PM system or B.net. Below are the Azeroth ID's of all players followed by the TL.net names of all players in parentheses. If you have trouble contacting them within a short time PM me and I'll give you the e-mail address they supplied.

by the way i've gotten a few people who still want to join - if this goes well we'll have another and you can join then. I stopped taking people because we had a nice round number at 16, and it seemed high enough for the first one.

We can always use these other people as subs if someone can't get their games in or something - it's always aggrivating when that one guy gets byes all the way to the semi-finals...
BTW PMs are sent to everyone in my group, I apologize for many of them being blank, but apparently I am incapable of remember that hitting enter in the subject line sends the message. Go me, if that's any indication of my intelligence I should bomb straight out of this tourney.

This is actually really really really really (etcetera) fun!
I had never liked TFT cuz it's so hard to get used to from my RoC background but I think I'm gonna start laddering and stuff. Plus people are really playing each other and contacting each other and such it's sweetage meatballs.
Though, it WAS mildly embarassing to play on a snowy LT with weird creeps, and to have to ask what my opponent's Firelord was. But I got over it.

Oops? Were we supposed to play on TFT temple? I assumed we were using the old RoC one since no one I know of plays on snow temple willingly...
It's amazing what having a community does for patience with learning a game, though. I had the same experience with BW and the group of people that tought me how to play.

I hope everyone thats playing knows about the change in twisted meadows, with the goblin shops in the middle. Blizzard took out the priest and added some lvl 6 troll something and two trappers also, lol would have been nice of them to mention it in the patch text, but whatever.

About the change on TM: Yeah, the change was rather unexpected but good, it's easier to creep this shops now imo (one troll leader + 2 small trappers insted of one big priest + 2 big berserkers) I may be wrong however.

WaweR destroyed me in game one, and it looked like I was winning in game two until he had 8,000 units out of nowhere and I died.
Since we got the games done would it be a hassle for WaweR and us to switch who we play as far as seeding? Cuz I think that I'm going to lose wehther I play anti or requiem, might as well give WaweR a better chance =]

come hang out with us in the channel most of us arent very good but people like wawer and aether and orlandu are prob top tier of us that come to tl.net on azeroth. i think playing and watching reps of people like us would help better than watching reps of moon and them because there strats require timing and all that that you dont really have when you first start out.

www.wcreplays.com is a good place to go for replays. As for learning how to play just play on the bnet ladder. The AMM makes finding games really easy and the ladders are still competitive so you'll be able to learn the game at a good pace.

Game 1:
SoleSteeler (HU) at 7 o'clock vs. Manit0u (UD) at 4 o'clock on Gnoll Wood
I scouted in a clock wise fashion I scouted his position second last, when I found him I immediately attacked with a level 2.5 AM, 8 or so footmen. He had DK/ghouls and we had a nice little skirmish, I only lost 1 footmen I believe (but like 8 injured that I sent home) and I killed 3-4 ghouls. I went back to my main and trained a MK, started making riflemen and an arcane sanctum. I healed up and crept the natural expo in the mid-top-leftish area and expo'd, also teched to castle somewhere around now...
I creeped a few more spots and power leveled (didn't xp with my AM) my MK at the middle, merc camps etc. I think we skirmished a bit again. I added a bloodmage, and proceeded to attack with a rather large rifle/caster force (70ish food). He had some ghouls/aboms/statues/lich/DK. Nice micro from him, but my expo really gave me an advantage... Too bad he didn't scout it

Game 2:
SoleSteeler (HU) at bottom right vs. Manit0u (HU) at top left on Twisted Meadows.
Usual build for me, our scouting peasants waved hello to each other at the top right position and I think we both concluded that we were in a cross map situation.
I had barely crept my first small camp when he came roaring in with a couple footmen/AM/WE. I had just begun creeping the 3 gnoll camp but luckily saw him and was able to turn a creep jack into a pincer attack of him between me and the creeps... A couple of his guys got purged so I was able to pick them off, he ran back to his main while I finished creeping the spot.
I then healed up a bit, trained a bloodmage and then militia expanded to my natural expo. (just north right of my position). Solo crept with BM to level him faster. I started my plan to go 3 arcane mass breakers with AoE, I crept the shop, forgot to buy a tome of retraining, started creeping the 3 gnolls just north of that (with just BM, this is the north east shop BTW).
My heroes split, he came into the shop area and started hammering away with a MK/AM and a lot of footies. He managed to kill my BM and a lot of my own footmen with book of the dead before i TP'd out.
He did a little bit of harrassing with his book of the dead while I continued to throw up 3 arcane sanctums and upgrading breaker armour... I crept the merc camp and then went to check if he had expo'd to the north west natural expo... He hadn't. By this time I had a LOT of breakers coming out (was sitting at no upkeep with expo for 5 mins so...) and so I attacked him. Dropping blizz/flamestrikes with mass breakers, all footmen were completely roasted within seconds (including my own). My superior upgrades helped a lot vs his own breakers, I killed his MK before he ran out. I followed him into his base and we duked it out some more, he ran his army around trying to stall for time so I dual nuked his own sanctums and destroyed them. He was soon overrun easily from my 3 producing buildings vs his none...
SoleSteeler 2-0 Manit0u:
SoleSteeler (HU) at top right vs. Manti0u (UD) at top left on Echo Isles.
Early in the game he came right for me and harrassed my peasants with coil/wand of necro, I did some poor creeping (I was being distracted by a cute girl who came into my room, no, seriously!) I had one footmen in red from creeping the 3 little troll trappers, which mani easily picked off.
He killed 3 or so militia and then ran out without losing anything but a few skeletons. We both creeped a few more spots, I added rifles and a panda for haze when I saw him going mainly fiends. I creep jacked him at the mid left fountain of health, but we suffered no losses. I then creeped bottom left expo and bottom right expo, and then we had another fight. My hero was trapped and died. I almost killed his lich but he a timely coil saved him.
I creeped the one or two spots that was left while throwing up an expo, reviving panda and adding more rifles/casters. I went to check bottom left for an expo, nothing. I went to harrass his main just as he came down to my building expo at btm right. Had to cancel it and lost 3 peasants ;(.
I think I forced him to tp somewhere around here, and went to check the bottom left again, still nothing. I began throwing up my expo again just as he waltzed into my main... I tp'd, fought him again, lost my hero I'm guessing. Might of killed one of his before chasing him out... Again, I check btm left... as he checks btm right, I think he was building an expo now, which I killed, he also killed my btm right.
this time I said to myself I'm gonna use 5 peasants to build my expo so I get it up ASAP, and I did. We fought some more, chased each other around the map. As I was killing his 2nd attempt at an expo he went down to mine and tried killing it, but I tp'd right ontop of his army and managed to do a lot of damage, panda died again though. At this time he's got a lot of fiends/aboms/statues. I was SO CLOSE to killing his DK, but couldn't do it... And I had a peasant at the tavern trying to tavern revive panda, but it didn't work (lag?). Wanted to intercept DK. At this time I had a lot of money rolling in, since I had at least had an expo running at certain times while he never had, so my gold mine ran out so I knew his must of, so I expo'd bottom right (had to kill his 3rd or 4th attempt at one again though first).
Somehow I killed his DK, i didn't even realize it... But I pressed his main, BoFing his workers that tried to repair altar etc. I had a couple mortars because he had towers. My 80/80 army slowly but surely took out the remainder of his force, and base. GG

Well, when I stormed your expansion and you tp'ed in I thought the game is mine Obviously underestimating you for what I payed the highest price. My thoughts at this time:
1. Uah! Nicely stacked troops! Let's launch the nova! It worked well but unfortunately I missed mana for 1 more nova there.
2. I didn't pay attention to the troops there for a moment and later found my army obliterated.
3. You killed my dk right at the moment when he raised his sword to cast coil that would surely kill your am

Luckily for me my spring break just started and I'm at home relaxing for a few days, and this time I brought my own computer with me.

Aether gave me the expected 3-0, randoming all games. Game 1 was the decentest as I had a quasi-clue about what I was doing in that game.
On a happier note, the series (and Aether himself, really a good guy) motivated me rather a bit and I might start playing TFT a bit more.

Dire got changed in 1.12, and uh I think Blizzard is just retarded about that mineral thing.
In TvT, you're gonna have lots of minerals regardless. You're going to want to expand like Rome of course, so that should help with gas, but regardless you're going to have tons of leftover minerals because of the mineral-to-gas income ratio as well as the bulk of your production units costing a bit of gas. Vultures can sometimes be good, but I wouldn't rely on them to do a whole lot of damage in TvT.

my macro blows some monkey, i mean i got like 4 expos but i couldn't keep up with my facts. everytime i did a drop and sieged some tanks laid some mines i had a shitload of mins when i got back to my base :O

After evanthebouncy or whoever that was, I think everyone totally changed their views on what stupid questions are.
I dunno how much many people in this section would be able to help though. I mean there's a lot of us who used to play Brood War and some of us were very good (I played in WCG and a lot of tournaments back in the day), but many of us have been inactive for a long time. I haven't played more than a few games for fun since WCG 2003 semi-finals. So unless someone who stills plays and is good happens to drop by, you might not get the best advice.
But oh well, Brood War is always fun to discuss. Especially since Puerto Rican recruited me as a GGL StarCraft referee, so I'd probably better start getting back into it some.

keke, nub... if you have four expos, jesus, you should have like more than twelve facts easily. and not all of them need to be machine shop'ed.
TvT, just expo more and get more geysers to balance resources. don't worry about losing the CC, lift off if they attack you without gols and then run your scvs away if you can. and hotkey facts to spend resources while you drop tanks or lay mines.

Macro was one thing I was always really really good at (and I still like to think I am even in War3 =] ). My best advice for that is to hotkey one of your main building structures and to constantly double-tap back to it every 15-20 seconds or so, even during battles. The micro isn't as intense as it is in War3, so missing a couple seconds to pump out some more units won't hurt you as much or in some cases end the game like it can in War3.
Oh, and if you still have extra money after pumping out some rounds of units, just build more Facs/Gateways/Hatcheries. 8+ is never a bad number to have.

I haven't played BW in a long, long time... I played it casually with my friends (well, we did play a lot) back when we were in like grade 8. I liked to of thought myself half-decent back then, but who knows T_T
If we had a tourny I'd have to practice for like a month before I'd be used to the much, MUCH faster gameplay.

What if you're kind of in between? I played Warcraft 3 for about 2 years starting from ROC beta but then stopped completely after 1.14 and then picked up Starcraft which I played until a few months ago. I'm technically more of a W3 player than a BW player but I've been out of touch with W3 so long that I might as well be a BW player trying to play W3

Just as an unofficial update, I defeated Ghardo 3:0 Friday in the tournament. Whoever my next opponent happens to be, either Wawer or Anti, I'll be available Monday/Tuesday night, and probably Wednesday night. Wednesday I'm planning to head north to Detroit to spend a few days there with friends so I won't be available during the day. Thursday however is my birthday, and since I turn 19 they were planning to take me to Canada sometime to celebrate, maybe Friday night though. But we'll be lanning most of the time I'm there, so I'm free pretty much most of the time until Sunday.
So I guess we'll try to work around that or something.

it's not unplayable by any means, but it could possibly mean the difference between a well timed town portal or something
there was a couple times in the last game we played where i remember lagging, and it actually showing the "waiting for players' thing too, but other than it didn't realy matter

it's not the server for custom games, it's your connection to the host. thus you need to find a polish host to have <1 sec. and 1 sec is considered pretty damn nice, even in wc3l play

errr i had to dodge... i was all ready to go, but then girl comes in and drags me out (at about 8:05), we had a sandwich, went back to my room, she's sitting on my bed talking to me, i'm switching back and forth between bnet and my essay i told her i'm supposed to be working on (why i couldn't talk to her) and going "errr shit" etc. on bnet... i told aether i should be done in a few mins, he said he was pressed for time, we both agreed on friday, 5 mins later she leaves, i message aether to see if he's still up for the game, but he is now playing in (i think) a clanwar, that he can't back out of...

I am willing to play anytime tonight ... And am very sorry I couldn't tuesday. The only time I couldn't is probably between 5-7 PM EST.
So if you want to do it sometime before or after Aether, I'm cool with that. If you need a suggestion, let's go with 8 PM EST or like 2 PM EST

btw. I have got one noob question ^^
If a kodo has devoured something and is just digesting it and during the process it gets polimorphed... What happens to the unit being digested? Is it set free, dies instantly or when kodo reverts to normal form it's still got this unit in it's belly?

i would think that it would remain in the state that it was in before the polymorph and would revert to that state when polymorph wears off. same with hex being used on a kodo i would think.

they weren't that good of games... he completely dominated me, i couldn't ever get even a minor foothold =p
i thought i might of had something 2nd game... when i was able to surround his DK early and force a TP. but all 3 games i was too 'disoriented' i guess because i'm not used to such harrassment, so my rifles came out too late, i lost too many wood peasants, i wasn't able to do any creeping etc.

yea and in the first game youre keep got done before you started blacksmith =(.
over all i think they were decent games. i think aether using his ud which is his main race is a gg for almost every person who visits tl.net that i know of.

From what I saw of Aether's Orc in my two games with him, I think I could have easily beaten his Orc had I been at my old skill level. Of course Aether was probably playing with one hand while blindfolded, eating dinner, and talking on the phone so I really would have had no chance either way... Ah well at least I can dream...

We got mired in "Can you play tonite? How about tonite?", a common affliction of tourneys such as this.
Hopefully we can get this thing back on track and set up number two, 'cause I've been laddering and I'm about ready to switch back to BW 'cause goddamnit UD can't do anything vs NE.

yea from what ive seen anti isnt able to be on alot so they cant play there games. and when he is on wawer is gone or something.
i have a feeling that our "war3 community" is gonna die because of this . ive already noticed it in the last 2 weeks or so no one is ever online and in the channel anymore =/ its a shame too cuz we had a good amount of players for the first week or two
p.s i need/want/would like a training partner in 1v1 to help meh out some. prefer orc/hum(my worse MU's) i play NE. if you struggle in ovn or hvn and wanna get better/help someone pm me plz

Well, do we want to set up a time to have another play night? I've been laddering up a storm and don't want my new skillz to atrophy or anything.
Orlandu is admining for GGL I think (or some other league) so I imagine he's pretty busy, and Aether's back to gaming, but there still seems to be a decent number of us interested in playing. Eh, any interest?

I haven't started doing much for GGL yet, but in about a week or so the Americups start so that'll book up my Monday's and Tuesday's a good bit.
But yeah I've been pretty busy. Had Spring Break and was out of town for awhile, and immediately after I got back to school I got bogged down with stuff. I've been keeping watch, I just haven't had a whole lot to say lately.

Sounds good to me. I think until he mentions otherwise we should still consider this as chobo's baby, (as he's done so much work up 'til now) but I think if we take collective stewardship of the tourney and try to get it finished up we won't be too out of line.

My solution: If anti won't show up soon I suggest giving a w/o to WaweR (he showed some interest in playing his games while anti didn't) and continuing the tour on a bit different basis - the players wouldn't play their games by contacting each other and setting up the game but we would schedule some meetings (3 in a week would be just fine imo) where everyone interested would show up. This way we could have more games played and ppl could actually obs the tourney games what would be more fun imo.
What do you think?

ive already took charge of it and mailed chobo(he gave me permission to finish this tourney for him.) and ive sent wawer the answer i got back from anti so its all good
p.s. if anti dosent show up today i will give a w/o to wawer since he has shown that he wants to play in the tourney

p.s3 some of the highlights of the matches today!
game1: fizr forgot his tier2 tech i think and was about 10-15 secs behind wawer's. thats it =/. ahhh and wawer only have 4 peons mining gold for a while in the game.
game2: fizr went aura first for his AM(wow i still cant believe it...) wawer went about 1/2-3/4 into the game with 3-4 peons on gold(wow again -_-) ummm shaman+bloodlust=no breakers(whats up with that?)
game3: fizr went elemental first and wawer made sure he had 5 peons(GJ guys!) and once again shaman+bloodlust=no breakers?

Aether and I haven't played yet, not sure when I'll get a chance to for sure.
I have to do Americups every Monday and Tuesday night, both CAL 1v1 and 2v2 some night of the week, and then whatever school stuff I have to do. My schedule is kinda fucked up at the moment, but I'm gonna take a look tonight and see if I can get a good idea of when I have free time.

yea im gonna be hosting another tour about 2 weeks after this one is done(1 week break from games then a week for the sign up process) i had a request from someone to give a 2 week break in between tournaments i guess for practice and such before the next one. if i get enough request for it to be moved up to only one week after finals(for registration) then ill make it one week.
i also havent decided on groups or a bracket yet either so any input on which you think would be best/which you like best just let me know.

I think groups are better, because even the people that aren't very good get to play a decent amount of games, and it's much easier to seed brackets once a group stage has been completed.

Ok I probably should've mentioned this already but...
As far as my games with Aether go, neither of us have made an effort to get the games played as of yet. I'm not sure what his reasoning is, but here is mine:
A LOT of stuff has happened in my life recently, and a few days ago a lot of chaotic things happened. It more or less brought a bitter end to certain aspects of my life, and it had a big impact on me. I felt depressed to the point where I didn't eat anything at all in 48 hours. I was a mess, and became very unhealthy.
But, I know what I need to do to get my life back in order. As part of doing so, I decided to take a break from gaming and other things in my life in order to find what was truly important to me and what I really wanted to do. More or less, I'm re-evaluating my life and making some changes.
Although gaming always has and will be an important part of my life, and I have full intentions to return to it, at the moment I felt it was necessary to take a break. However, I have a prior commitment with GGL for the AmeriCups that I do NOT intend to back out on, so I will still give my all for them. But aside from that, I can't guarantee anything else, or when I'll be returning to gaming.
I'd like to still play in this next tournament, and finish up the first, but I really don't know when I'll be ready to come back. It could be in a few days, or a month from now. I'm just not really sure at the moment, I'm still sorting things out.
I'm sorry for any confusion or problems this may cause, but it was truly out of my hands and is a far more serious issue than any other aspect in my life right now.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but if you would like to postpone the match between me and Aether to a later time, I'll gladly play. I just know at the moment, I don't have the desire to.
