I'm not watching, but it's always amusing to hear people talk about Zhi when he's on the mic. Zhi's commentating is actually really good, and I find him funny as well on his days where his mind isn't stuck on awkward sex humor.

Cool to hear about Gackt too. He's been insane for a while, just needed to have a great showing somewhere outside of Singapore.

I've been trying to play Bison for the past few days to figure out some of his weaknesses for when I play other characters, since I find him to be one of my hardest matchups.

And lo and behold he's very fun and I might make him a secondary! MK and HK just too goooooddd. Best pokes.

lol it figures that the last two spots for capcom cup both go to fei long.

the participants will be xian, sako, haitani, chris g, tokido, alioune, and now gackt and fuudo. pretty wide open tournament without a clear favorite if you ask me, but the japanese players are probably still slightly favored in general.

Zhi's creepiness wrt women has made it that my gf will never watch the singapore streams he's on. Don't much like that guy.

I'm kinda shocked gackt did so well. I mean, I always knew who he was and that he was good, but he did crazy well. Biased as I am, I was hoping Dakou would win, but I can settle for seeing him start an awesome comeback in a situation where I think most players mentally give up.

I hope everyone crushing on that sakura cosplayer was watching the stream at the end.

also, lol, duka. Bison is indeed pretty fun, until you have to make up a life deficit anyway

I thought Zhi's interaction with the cosplayer was hilarious, as are most of his conversations with women. He's so awkward and tries so hard to not be offensive but then his hormones kick in and he asks overly offensive questions. The Twitch chat helps because it's full of "ZHI IS GOING IN" and "ZHI ONII-CHAN STATUS CONFIRMED."

hey guys brand new SSF4 player ..

trying to learn Ryu but I am god awful at this game

anyone have any really easy combos to I should shoot to learn ?

also I wanna watch some tournaments what is recommended? I was gonna go back and watch EVO but unfortunately twitch still wants me to pay 12 dollars even though it was back in july or whatever

Pick a few simple combos:

During neutral game and after a jump in: cr.mk xx hadouken
For a punish: f+fp -> fp shoryuken, if you have time do a focus attack beforehand

Get these down so you can do them blind, from there on focus on other things. Find out when you can jump in without getting punished, try to anti air every jump in, learn safejump setups (easy to find on youtube or shoryuken.com), learn to crouch tech, learn to consciously decide whether you're going to block or reversal on defense. You can practice these best while playing, so no need for long training room sessions early on. This will help you more than practicing combos and will also make it easier to try another character since they apply to everyone.

After you learn these things you will want to learn to combo into your ultra. Ryu has some easy ways to do so:

After an anti air LP shoryuken or after EX tatsu in the corner.

If you're confident with these you can start learning mp shoryuken FADC ultra for a very solid reversal option.

Watch Topanga A league for the highest level SF, there is a reddit thread with links to all matches played so far. You can also check out the capcom fighters youtube channel for some good, recent sets.

For Ryu combo's pretty much go to the character specific forums on shoryuken.com. Lot's of info there!

Honestly as a new player (and I fell into this trap, regardless of what others told me), just avoid worrying about combos until you play some real games for a while. Things like poking, defense, spacing, and what not to do are way more important to learn. Learn basic punishes (punish meaning if someone whiffs a move, especially something like a shoryuken, and you can easily do something painful to hurt them for it). With someone like Ryu, as mentioned, anything going into a DP. Forward.HP -> H.Shoryuken, etc.

Also cr.MK -> fireball, learn to love it (in general, not [just] as a punish)
