I enjoyed the first one but probably wouldn't have paid anything more than $5 for it because it's so short and isn't replayable. I only had it because it was in the orange box. How does portal 2 hold up to the first one? Portal 2 is better than the original in basically every way, highly recommended. 5 bucks is a steal imo. Not to mention it's hilarious.

How does portal 2 hold up to the first one? There are like a million user-made rooms for Portal 2. If you wanted to you could probably fill a lot of hours by playing those.

I was a huge fan of the first one, found the second one okay and the third one sad as hell. The gameplay seemed really, really lackluster to me and the missions felt as if I was treated like an idiot for hours because of the slow progress.

How does portal 2 hold up to the first one? Yes! I played through Portal 1 in like an hour and a half and had fun, but some of the things in the game were blocky-feeling and whatnot. Portal 2 was perfect! If it was still say.. $40 I was still give you the green light to do it. Portal 1 = 4/10, Portal 2 = 10/10 imho.

Agreed, the first one was AWESOME. 2nd one was still pretty good... number 3 had soooo many bugs and nothing felt new enough.

For those not having a clue what it looks like, the original version (just one mission and programmed in 48h I think) is available for free.

I've only done the tutorial so far and while it's beautiful and I look forward to the game, the combat/UI etc. is pretty awful compared to other games. I have a better setup now after rebinding a lot of stuff so I'll have to test more with custom config. Yep, the UI and combat system totally got me out of that game. Everybody says it's a very enjoyable game, but if i don't enjoy the first hour (and no, by this i don't mean instant gratification, but a decent combat system/ui) i can't just try to forget about it.

Generally speaking, if it is a melee combat game, use a controller. As a gamer you should have one nowadays anyways, there is really no reason not to considering how many games are just plain out better with one. Only exception i have come cross so far has been Chivalry. Stuff gets complicated once you have combined melee and ranged combat, since aiming anything ranged with a controller is pure horror. Other then that, the story takes a bit to get going because you really need to get involved with the world and the characters for it to be fun. And what exactly do you mean when you say that you don't like the UI?

I can really echo this, I want to replay witcher 2 but the combat/ui really does keeps getting in my way. An example of a game that did it totally right for me was dragon age: origins, I just keep playing that game because I love how everything looks. Especially the menus/loading screens/etc. The combat is also really good.

The combat is quite similar to Dragon Age in style but with much more depth, (particularly with difficulty mods). It looks great as well if you play it in widescreen. I actually really enjoyed the combat in Witcher 2. The main things you need to do are upgrade rolling, upgrade group attacks and spam quen. Upgrading rolling has the additional benefit of allowing you to travel a lot quicker across the map. The Witcher's combat on the hardest setting was all about getting backstabs. The UI was definitely pretty bad. The first Witcher's UI wasn't good either but they managed to make it worse somehow. Different strokes for different folks but I couldn't say the UI was ever near a deal breaker for me.

Witcher2 combat is ... unforgiving at the start but later very rewarding (imho). Without Quen spam ;p Numer 1 rule is: Dont get hit (roll, parry, quen, stun before attacking). I just disliked on Hard that I didnt need to use alchemy - hoping on Dark it's better.
