As we'll spend some time together on a local LAN around new years eve, I thought about a nice multiplayer game to play 1vs1. It should also achieve the following qualities: Platforms: Steam obviously Input: Mouse&Keyboard or Gamepad Size: It should be a "big" game with lot's of content but still something you can (fundamentally) grasp in at least 1 hour. Nice singleplayer is a bonus. Gameplay: It should have some integral strategical component (can still be action based) - also no racing or 1on1 beat'em'up/fighting Up-To-Dateness: Some eye-candy (3D graphics sporting decent current generation graphics (DX9-11 level) or at least good executed 2D graphics) Games he likes: WC3 a lot, SC2 not that much, Shogun 2, FIFA, Panzer Corps, Quake 3, World of Warcraft (since release), Games he hates: Worms, Bloodbowl (too random), dawn of war (don't know why), genres noted above Take a look at Sins of a Solar Empire:Rebellion. Rebellion has all the content of the original and expansions so getting just this should be fine for you. I'm pretty sure it will be up for a Steam Sale soon too. It was quite popular on the Summer Sale. If I recall there is a tutorial you can get through at a good pace, especially if your friend looks over your shoulder. That might satisfy the 1-hr grasping requirement. The games take a lot longer to finish though so you can continue well into next year with it if you happen to become attached to it. Has anyone here tinkered with RPG Maker:Ace? I'll probably never get to finishing a full game but this called out to me for some reason.

Do you have a different sale from me? CS:GO has a flash sale right now for $7.49, for me at least. I just bought a copy for my friend.

Some old time 1.6 people still play 1.6. I have a friend who goes between 1.6 and GO. If you haven't play any games in the series, just get GO.

Probably means euro bucks. Its £5.65 pound bucks here which about hits your dolla price. Dishonored good or no? All that sticks in my head is a clip where JP uses some seethru vision on a lady in a bath only to find she is wearing clothes then ragequitting.
