Just in case anyone hasn't noticed yet, FTL and Hotline Miami are this weekend's deals (40 and 50% off respectively).

I pick up FTL thanks to the TL thread... Definitely worth the full price - a must at half off!!

They have some really amazing deals and a LOT of older games that Steam doesn't offer. I really like that. But I'm going to be honest and talk about my experience in buying games digitally.

I forget things. I forget the names of websites I ordered games from. I forget what username, pw and email I used. gog, d2d, even EAs clusterfuck of a steam knockoff, if it doesn't save games I've purchased to a program I will forget I purchased the games.

If I buy these games eventually my hard drive will corrupt or something will happen. I'll lose the games and I'll lose my bookmarks. I won't remember the missing games until I want to play them, maybe months or years later. By then I'll have almost certainly forgotten the name of the website or my username.

That's why I won't be taking part in those awesome sales. Well, the older games that is. If they sell things cheaper than steam does then I'll gladly buy them and add their cd keys to steam!

Welcome to the internet! Smart people always use the same little-modified passwort. (like polt88, polt89, PolT88...).

My solution, which I think is better, is to use KeePass Password Safe. I have a folder called "Digital Distribution" which stores my unique 20-character passwords. You can look down the password titles to see what sites you have a password for and then put a note next to it saying what games you have on that site.

Haha, no you guys don't get it. I'm talking about years. Over a period of years and years and years. I can barely remember not to throw out bills. I'm not remembering a piece of paper.

As I said, it's just my experience, no matter how good the deal is the convenience of having everything in one place (steam) makes occasional super deals okay to pass up on
(for me)

I tie most games I play to Steam. That lists them in my Steam library. Would that solve part of your issue?

The convenience with GoG is actually be able to play many of the older games that are either not available on steam or don't work very well with newer os. You can't exactly put that against convenience of having all games on a list.

Though admittedly I have accidental bought the same game multiple times because I didn't remember buying it previously. So there might be a point to that side as well.

Very simple; use OneNote (sync to cloud) or just e-mail yourself.

If anyone buys ONE game from GOG, it should be Planescape: Torment. Next would be BGI and BGII, look up BGTutu and combine them / get mods and tweaks. Runner-up would be the Ultima Underworld games.

Fantastic experiences, period.

Completely truthful. I bought BF3 back in July from amazon (was on sale) and I only remembered I had bought it when I went through my order history. Still havent played it...

I need to call my bank to make GoG work

I apparently need to confirm something with them today anyway, so it might work out. I'm just lazy, lol.

stronghold is on sale, its a city builder type game where at the end of a mission an enemy army tests your defences.

also jade empire, the exotic bioware action-RPG.

also crusader kings 2, which has a big thread on this forum and is a grand strategy game.

Valve setting the mood for the big sale.

Imo Stronghold 1 was great, Stronghold 2 was okay and Stronghold 3 was utter crap. I'd recommend the complete pack without Strongold 3.

Steam sales are more about game hoarding then actually buying games you intend to play.

If you want to get Spec Ops (heard it had good story) $7.49 : http://www.getgamesgo.com/category/12-days-of-xmas-day-7

If like me you have never played bioshock 1 & 2 and also wanted spec ops $9.99 : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091T6FQO/?tag=childsplaycha-20

All have steam codes upon purchase.
