Planetside is probably my most memorable multiplayer experience in a video game ever. the scope, the combat, the sheer 'epic'ness you run into. Not going to lie it's amazing to sit in a bfr and battle over a bridge for 30 minutes.

It (original) was a very fun, unique game that left a good taste in my mouth (usually filled with bad ones in gaming) but it didn't leave much later on, also it just wasn't easy for new people to get in/to bring friends in. I would like to see this one build on and improve, and for SoE to be back in the running against other publishers, their games are actually quite polished. EQ2 had so many features I wanted in EQ1, and so many features still that aren't included in WoW, if SoE takes a lesson from that, they could improve planetside big time and easily sell well.

Terran Republic = Terran (obviously)
New Conglomerate = Protoss
Vanu Sovereignty = Zerg

I think everyone who played this game had an incredibly positive experience, this was probably one of the first and best social PvP MMO experiences in history. Ask anyone who played PS vanilla and they'll probably have a few really incredible stories.

SOE would be have to reach a new low to fail to make this work given how much loyalty and good word-of-mouth the original generated.

I remember this game was so awesome it blew my video card up and I still played. Everything would just be large artifacting triangles and my friend would drive me around while i was on a turret telling me where to shoot...

id rather they take forever and get it right. planetside 1 was amazing before they fucked it up. let's hope they are taking this time to fix the problems and get it right again.

found this twitter message a couple days ago. Some guy sent this tweet to John Smedley

@j_smedley Anything new to release about Planetside:Next? thought we'd be in beta by mid-march :/

@Jake_Matter nothing new to report. Lots of work going on. A lot of new team members going onto it helping out. I mean a lot.

Looks like the Denver and Tucson offices that got closed are being relocated to the San Diego office where most of the Planetside Next team is working on. So I think while it closed offices and laid off about a third of the company, they are diverting all of those who are still with the company into Planetside Development.

So...bittersweet news, I guess. On one hand a third of the company was laid off and Planetside Next was delayed, but the other hand is that Planetside Next didn't get canned in favor of DCU or Everquest Next.

I had so much fun in Plantside, I'M liable to buy Planetside Next and play for a few months regardless of any bad reviews that might surface. The MMOFPS genre hasn't been explored enough, someone needs to show all these Fake browser FPS's that claim to be MMO's how it's done.

Anyone see the new post featuring Planetside Next? It's confirmed to be called Planetside 2!

SOE's open world MMOFPS PlanetSide Next will be officially called PlanetSide 2, according to the game's Chinese publisher The9. Tony Park, Vice President of The9, said on his Micro-blog(Chinese twitter) that SOE's developer team had decided to title the game PlanetSide 2 as the working title PlanetSide Next was not a suitable name any longer. Besides, he revealed a picture of the map and some information about the gameplay.
