Also control decks don't want to play many threats or they wont be able to stop decks that play bigger threats, i.e. primeval titan. If you want to try him outside of a mono black aggro deck, maybe try some sort of black based mid ranged deck instead of control.
Well, control doesn't have to be defined as late-game. But black-based control doesn't seem too strong, so it's probably just better to stick to aggro. Like this guy's list.
UBZombies
That sideboard is hilarious.

4 Drowned Catacombs? That seems wrong...?
EDIT: Sorry, he has 4 Phantasmal Images too. Mustve just skipped over that.

The undying mechanic and Clones is just hilarious. I love that that recur and can copy something else with a +1/+1 so good.

People need to learn to play Gitaxian Probe better. Most idiotic lines of play and excuses from players running Delver. 2-life-Probe-Evolving Wilds-pass, wat. When I told him it was silly, he was like I have other lines of play....with 1 land and no creatures.

1: Open Sorin, Skirsdag High Priest, and Curse of Death's Hold.
2: Win draft.
3: Find bot that has ridiculously inflated prices, netting 30 tickets for the lot.
4: ????
5: Profit.
I'm considering making my turbofog deck online now, seems like fun even if it's not exactly PT worthy.

Anyways, decided on a UB list for Gameday, plan on scooping to janky lists... *shakes head*

Just curious....why does Online Magic come out so much later than paper magic?
|
My store only had enough Innistrad to go DKA/DKA/INN, that was pretty fun. I went T1 Typhoid Rats/T2 Black Cat/ T3 Ashmouth Hound in one game. I found this to be hilarious. No one else did.

The beta testers online would spoil the releases much sooner then wizards wants, so they time it.

My store also had to do double DKA. I ended up with 5 stromkirk captains and 3 fires of undeath. That draft went well to say the least.

Is my the store the only store that does trple DKA the first month or so?
|
Whoever wins triple DKA is based purely on whoever pulls out the most lingering souls.

Blue White Spirits do so well, as there just isn't that much removal and creatures that can block flying. ^^
Last night, me and my friend both got a huntsmasters. Was pretty awesome. Only went 2 and 1 though
|
I wish we did triple DKA, I'm sick of seeing Innistrad cards in general. Dark Ascension commons and uncommons are so strong, it's pretty ridiculous. Even the usually silly combat tricks are super duper strong. The G/R Trample spell and Undying Evil have both really shined.
I've been wanting to Saving Grasp my Fiend Hunter to do one of those Oblivion Ring/Disperse things but it hasn't happened =(
|
If you go triple DKA then you can't manage to fiend hunter saving grasp! Only got it to happen once, but the fiend hunter took a brimstone volley to the knee, so it wasn't great value
Did saving grasp Geist Honored Monk though, that was pretty sweet.
Had a sweet draft last night, Got a Beguiler, then P3P1 Curse of Death's Hold, P3P2 Army of the Damned, and then 2 to my right the table the guy playing RG (opened huntmaster) took foil bloodline, and I know the guy to my right wasn't in black either. Was wishing i had P3P4 foil bloodline. Anyway my draft deck was pretty solid.

I'm building Delver atm but haven't really got to play it much, should I go with the Finkel-Dungeon Geist/Phantasmal Image U/W or is Saint Traft still the way to go? I think with the captains the Dungeon Geists are way better, has anyone played both and has an opinion?
Also is Lingering Souls > Midnight Haunting all the time? Instant speed has to count for something right?
|
Instant speed is cool, but all it really does is allow you to keep mana leak/dissapate open more often. The thing is that in a mirror, if you have midnight haunting and they have souls, you keep up T3 leak, they just run souls out, if you mana leak you don't get your spirits, and then next turn they just flash it back. So you just get 2 for 1'd. I guess if you dissapate it, you can get there, but there are generally bigger threats you want to keep dissapate for (captain, either geist, etc)
Mana leak is a pretty bad card vs ramp, since if you hold mana leak open they can often just wait till 9 mana to cast titan, 6 mana for slagstorm, etc.
So while instant speed can have a few more uses, the flashback just makes souls better, especially later in the game when players basically have enough mana, souls is a better topdeck than haunting.
As for which list is better, I haven't really messed around with both versions, so idk. I think spirits might be better simply because the metagame has shifted to handle all the hexproof durdles with sweepers, so having gas after a board wipe with souls just seems better. Geist also loses to a droksol+spirits.

If he had either an island or a delver in his hand before casting the probe, then paying the life is correct, since there's a chance of him drawing the delver/island to be able to play it on the first turn. A lot of people do misplay probe, of course, but just because he played a wilds afterwards doesn't mean it was a misplay.

I knew he had nothing because I surgicaled his lingering later on and he had nothing. This was on turn 2 btw. His board was coast and wilds after paying 2 and passing. That line is wrong in any situation and even more so after peeking my hand.
Anyways for gameday, I went 3-0-2, drawing into top 8 and just split prizes. Beat ub zombies, ubw delver, and that 5 color reanimator. People played for the mat and that was that.
Also the delver deck cant beat ub control unless they play geist (either) or moorland haunt.

I agree with this statement, was at PTQ Columbus yesterday and after I dropped from the main event I played in a win a box with 1 Mono Black Zombies player and 6 UB Control players then myself with Esper Delver. The only games I won I turn 1 blind flipped delver or was able to image a titan or wurmcoil and they just didnt have the answer right away.
Also Modern is a sick format. Went 1-1-1 vs Melira pod. 0-1 vs Pyromancer Storm(Never played the deck before so I countered the wrong enabler considering I cliqued him the turn before). beat Bant 1-0, and lost 0-1 to Martyr Proc. I think Squadron hawk is pretty bad, I'm thinking of changing the mana and running lingering souls in it's place. Overall I enjoyed my games and the format seems pretty skill intensive.A friend of mine and local player ended up winning Day 1 and he's going to Barcelona so was a happy day for the Akron/Kent area.
