...not sure how this is remotely related to Final Fantasy...?
Let me connect the dots for you:
1) People bitching about crappy-ness of recently-released FF games / franchise 2) I link alternative JRPG Kickstarter being developed by AAA team including the composer and art director for most of the "good" Final Fantasy games. 3) ???????? 4) Profit

Oh, cool, so this is a "link to random RPGs" thread now. I can get into that.
Man after hype (and losing hype) over this shit for 8 years if it's not the greatest thing since sliced bread I'm gonna be pretty disappointed. I like how they acknowledge that at the end too... "ALMOST THERE".
they took ALOT of the glamor from noctis's appearance. his shirt looks dull, it's now opened, no sharp pants, no cool boots, he had the kingdom heart look, and it's as if they just made him dull and remodeled it. the 2011 trailers look fucking insane, the E3 ones look like meh. i'm a huge fan of tetsuya no mura's work, he has a hand in EVERY highly rated ff title, i'm going to just assume it's good based off his track record and hope for the best when the time comes. him being the main director this time around is a huge deal vs him simply being just the main character designer.
this whole basing it off reality concept is really killing the fantasy in it for me that is generally a re-occuring theme. the whimsical feel of changing your destiny...it's not apparent in the E3/2014 trailers.

The latest video seemed to focus on low level stuff (Noctis doesn't seem to have super monstrous capacities in that one). Maybe he just has the starting gear, which would look plain? :D

clearly they were travelling vagrants in this trailer, wearing their travelling clothes instead of princely fighting gear

while i do feel like you have a point, the fact it was stated by the above poster that the director changed, makes me stick to my guns. i'm not hyped for this project anymore after hearing tetsuya nomura was recently taken off the position of head director. it's pretty obvious that square-enix is uncertain the direction they want to go with it, so they booted him off the project. because of this, they had to re-model how noctis looks entirely which is why he looks completely different from the other trailers. you can tell from a mile away if it's tetsuya no mura's character design or it's another artist. i'm also sure the delay was completely due to the changing of the directors, that probably added at least a 1-2 year setback.
while i am a huge fan of KH series, i was more of a fan of him being the main artist or director on the games i've came to fall in love with, F-10, f-13 series, etc. having him taken off this makes me hesitant to purchase it now. it might be a flop like ff12. the game is starting to look more western based by the minute (not that there's anything wrong with western games) but a western theme added would result in a remake of ff12 imo. i hope i don't come across like i'm bitching or expecting to much, but this type of delay due to indecision is irritating and should be expected by the loyal fans at this point.
One of the voices really sounds like Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura from Heroes). Is it just my foreigner bias, plus the fact I never watch anything in Japanese (I never caught the anime bug)?
I refer to the story trailer, not the gameplay one I just realized was posted below it.
It makes me a little fearful for the new Xenoblade game.
I am only worried for one thing, the attack animation looks cool but they are time consuming. What's amazing in FF7 to FF10 is that they make only SOME attacks look powerful, especially the final blow.
Right now there're less pre-framing shots but more about every attack / dodge / movement has to look cool and this takes time for the character to make that happen.
The way they showed the character just "dodging" all the attacks look really weird.
