I always appreciate good music to listen to even while just working in the office. I'm one of those weird people who can't seem to do anything without some white noise in the background. I'm especially open to listening to great video game music, remixes, etc. in those listening sessions as well, so this station is great. glad you are enjoying the music~ perhaps if you missed it, here is a link to Touhou Player http://touhou.kuukunen.net/ Awesome stuff

This is about how ZUN chooses to have his music off-key and my frustrations as a touhou-pianist. Ok guys is it just me or is it very annoying that ZUN seems to have all his songs "off-key" by a quarter step??? For example, if you turn on "WAV" for sound settings in game, if you change it to "MIDI" you'll notice that the pitch is "fixed" or moved up half a (half) step. This gets really annoying if you want to play an arrangement of a Touhou song while keeping the key to be the same, since you can't really translate it with the WAV; if you do you'll be a quarter step too high or too low. What do you guys consider to be the "right" key? The MIDI version? The "WAV" version (translate it 1 quarter step down)? And anyone have an idea why he chose to do this? Idk if the soundtracks are closer to the step above or below. For those of you who may not know, keys are important to keeping the "feel" or atmosphere/mood/tone of the song. Even more frustrating is that you cannot play notes that are not on your instrument (piano), of course, so it is impossible to keep the exact feel that ZUN made for each of his songs (the default music settings are on WAV, so I assume that is how he wants you to hear them). I'm sure my perfect-pitch friend would die from listening to Touhou music unless he changed the settings to MIDI (nice call ZUN).

but for me, T_T and frustration. Or you guys could help me decide whether to learn the MIDI version or the other way from now on :D (heheh if you ever look up touhou music, and pick like 10 piano arrangements of the same song, you'll see that there will be two prominent keys and a couple random ones...)

Well you can't really play your instrument according to the wav pitches then Unless you like physically tune your instrument half a key down or whatever so just play the midi tune or transcribe to another key :>

jk. I'll just do the MIDI version from now on. It's just sad that the arrangers have to have such disagreeing opinions, and transcribing a good arrangement into the "right" key takes a bit of time. JSH do u happen to play guitar? Then you me and Aeres can... make Touhou band videos :D :D :D (play separately and edit them together).

I only know Piano and Flute. haha I don't have a bass guitar I only said I wanted to learn ![]() and... I never wanted to have perfect pitch this badly before now I can tell that the WAV and MIDI are different, and that they don't have pitches in the same key, not half step up or half step down, but I can't tell which one is right and which one is wrong T_T And recording actually sounds cool :D Only problem I think would be audio quality, I don't exactly have a good setup for recording edit: ah when I learn Might be never :<

So on EoSD Title Theme, the first note is an F in MIDI and on WAV, it is a D# So it's not out of tune The world is right again I misunderstood your post haha They are just in different keys I literally thought that the WAV version was actually out of tune But it isn't, so your perfect pitch friend wouldn't have any trouble listening ![]()

if you hear Apparitions Stalk the Night, the WAV starts on E, but the MIDI sounds like it's between Eb and E. FUUUU zun xD Edit: Gah, I can't figure it out. I don't know if I'm actually listening correctly or if I'm fitting the notes with the overtones and thinking that it's the right note. Locked Girl also sounds like it starts on E on WAV and Eb on MIDI, but I can't tell if it starts instead on G (WAV). Of course it's probably a mix of two notes too <_> Edit: Apparitions (WAV) - sounds like it starts between Eb and E, maybe closer to E But these start on Eb... Apparitions (MIDI) Apparitions (Piano)
