Starcraft Playback: Week 2
by fusionsdf
TeamLiquid: Final Edits

Link to Week 1 is here

Hey guys, fusionsdf here.

Welcome to the Week 2 of Starcraft Playback. This week's games were a bit better than last week's, but there were also quite a few games that leave you shaking your head. Starcraft Playback is here to help you find the best of the best between Jan 28 and Feb 3. Semioldguy and I will take turns subjecting ourselves to the best (and worst) MBC and OGN can offer.

"War, not Peace"

And with that, Shinhan Proleague ended for the season (save for the Grand Finals), so there are considerably fewer games this week.

With that said, heres the list!

Bacchus OSL: Round of 16

KTF_Flash vs Stork - Blue Storm
TLPD VOD
+ Show Spoiler +
To be honest, this one just barely made the list. Don't get me wrong, very nice high level play by both players, but it was very stable and fairly standard. If not for near flawless execution, this doesn't make it. Luckily for us the gameplay itself was extremely strong and fun to watch.

GomTV MSL Season 4 Ro16

KTF_Flash vs Hwasin Game 5 - Blue Storm
TLPD VOD
+ Show Spoiler +
Most TvTs dont make the highlight reel, but this one was exciting to watch. Hwasin's game isn't exactly up to par (although much better than in game 2) and Flash plays off of it with a very interesting build and perfect execution. Someone likes to expo :D

Saturday, Februrary 2, 2008
JaeDong vs Luxury Game 2 - Blue Storm
TLPD VOD
+ Show Spoiler +
Jaedong shows why he is where he is. Like Savior and Chojja before him, Jaedong seems to remove the luck factor from this match-up, and against probably the strongest ProLeague zvz sniper out there. A perfect ling backstab followed by a frontal attack is the highlight of this match and that is what elevates it to a place on this list.

Almosts:
-Anytime vs Nada game 3
-Jangbi vs Orion game 2
-Backho vs Frozean @ Katrina

Lots of cheese and short games happened this week, especially when zerg was involved. Lux robbed us of an epic pvz with a 5pool (curses), Savior continued his sloppy play, and Hwasin started to look very shaky as well. On the upside, Jaedong dominated in all his games, except vs Best, which had more to do with the build and timing then any huge execution flaws. So even though ProLeague isn't active at the moment, there were still quite a few gems in the rough. Hope you enjoyed watching and agreed with my picks!

If you have any suggestions or just want to argue why a game was or wasn't included, go ahead. :D

BONUS:+ Show Spoiler +

+ Show Spoiler +

Something about vult-only TvP into 10min nuke rush makes me happy. FPVod is from B.Net Attack, FBH vs someone. A really inventive and interesting build. Use it in your next game! This game happened Jan 29, which is why it only makes bonus.

he had 7 probes left, and lost 6 goons, a nuke rush isnt really that amazing

Thanks fusiondf. I liked both the Flash games, as well as the Jaedong game. I did think that some of the rushes deserved a better look perhaps, especially Lux's game vs Bisu. While the game wasn't very exciting, Lux's play did point out a big flaw in Bisu's strategy of going for the same build every single time.

Perhaps Kal vs Kwanro game 1 could also have made it. One of the best uses of cancelling a building I've seen in many games. Awesome game that :p

Eitherway, thanks for the list, all the games on it are great!

semioldguy made the same point about lux vs bisu.

I would agree, but I really see this type of build (go for assims really fast) becoming standard on troy. Toss only has one gas, and can only send out probes. We saw with that game that as nicely bisu macroed, by the time he had shuttle, lux was well on the way to scourge - even off a 4 pool.

In other words, I think its so incredibly difficult to deal with quick assim kills into shuttle sniping from the toss perspective that I couldnt get excited about it.

The game was over the moment lux killed the assims, and I think there was no way for bisu to come back after that without a gigantic mistake from the zerg.

Kwanro vs Kal was a pretty nice game, but I was too unimpressed with kwanro's play. Maybe objectively it could have made it, and Kal sure did his part, but I felt that even though kwanro didnt play horribly, he didnt play to the level that would guarantee an epic game.

That amateur guy is quite fortunate.

Here's a screenshot when he (braq = FBH) played with another player.
