1st Place Hwasin

-You finished as number 1 representative for Korea.
▶It wouldn’t have mattered if I had finished 2nd so I came to the arena without any burden, but when I actually received the sign that the game will start I didn’t want to lose. I did my utmost and am happy that I won.

-You had a record of 7-1 in two days.
▶Yesterday I had 5 wins, when I came back to the camp it was 5.30am. I couldn’t overcome my tiredness and didn’t practice. But my manager and coach told me that since I had already gotten practice through the real games I should practice with an untroubled mind. Thanks to that I played calmly.

-Until now the WCG has always been won by a Korean. That might be a big burden.
▶Overcoming a lot of players I was able to get 1st place. Because of that I think the fans‘ expectations are big. I will not disappoint them. I will go for 1st place and represent my country.

-Isn’t this the first time you participate in an overseas tourney?
▶It’s the first time I leave the country for a tourney and it’s also the first time I go overseas. I am looking forward to it a lot.

-Did you play many games against foreigners?
▶I have absolutely no experience with foreigners. I will ask last year's finalists about that. It would be nice if they could help me out. I am good friends with Oov, Midas and July so I think they will help me in a friendly manner.

[Lee Jun Ki = Korean actor - famous for a pretty, woman-like face]

-Many people call you Lee Jun Ki Terran.
▶I was told by many fans that we look alike. I am fine with it but I don’t know how Lee Jun Ki or his fans think about that (laughter).

-Your goal?
▶No need for a long speech, I will definitely take the championship.

2nd Place Stork

-You became a representative for the country.
▶In the WCG Korea nationals isn’t Starcraft the most difficult one to advance? Until now no Samsung player managed to advance for the Grand Finals in the Starcraft section, even though Samsung is the main sponsor. This first step was important.

-What’s the thing you want to do the most when you go to the US?
▶Because I can’t speak English it seems like there are not many things I can do. But since this my first overseas trip I want to buy many souvenirs. It looks like I have to prepare little presents for my family and teammates.

-Was there an especially difficult opponent in the tourney?
▶Starting from first game which I played against an amateur it was very burdensome. Needless to say Anytime and July are very good players, so it was hard. Free and I know each other very well so it was difficult to prepare for the match. I practiced PvP for 12 hours straight.

-In the first game you faced heavy attacks.
▶I prepared builds to counter Free for the 2nd and 3rd set. But Free knows me too well so he had come prepared with counters against me. I was very confused. But because I had produced a lot of probes there was no big difference in economy. Because I was already high enough in the tech tree I thought there is a chance to win.

-You are up against Hwasin in the upcoming finals.
▶When Nal_Ra and Much were defeated I played a practice match against Hwasin. Because we know each other well I expect good games. Because my only goal was to advance to the Grand Finals I just want to show good games and play to my heart’s content.

-Please tell us about your preparation for the Grand Finals.
▶I think it will be battle between the Korean players. I will definitely enter that battle and win the championship, since it is also a tournament that represents Samsung.

3rd Place - Savior

-You got your tickets to Seattle. Your thoughts seem different than the others’.
▶It’s the stage I had really wanted to go to. The image of arriving at and seeing the actual venue where the annual WCG Grand Finals will be held was really impressive. From the first second I became Progamer I wanted to represent our nation so I am very happy. Unfortunately I failed to finish 1st place in the nationals but because I revised my goal to number 1 in the world I want to win the Grand Finals in Seattle.

-In 2006 no CJ player managed to advance.
▶Until now my seniors achieved good results. So far I always said that I wanted to become a representative for the nation but I didn’t put much effort in it. But this time it’s different. I sincerely wanted it and prepared a lot for it. From the quarterfinals until today I went to sleep at 5am every day. That’s something I had never done in the individual leagues. I am very thankful to all my juniors who helped me to give me the chance to bring the Korean flag to Seattle. Both squad 1 and 2 helped me passionately. Because of my teammates I was able to advance.

-Didn’t you feel anxious after losing to Hwasin yesterday?
▶I didn’t. Because both possible opponents were Protoss today I prepared untroubled. I told myself to work as hard as if there was no tomorrow.

-How were the games against Free? Did it work out as you had planned?
▶In the first set Free used the build order I had predicted, in the second set Free seemed confused (his plan didn’t work out) from the start. That’s why I was able to damage him more.

-Many fans were worried because you showed weakness against Protoss recently.
▶I don’t think so. I lost a number of games to Bisu recently because he played well. I acknowledge that. Looking back on IEF Bisu did really well. If there will be matches in the future I will see that as a challenge and try to win.

-Do you have information regarding the foreign players?
▶I think I only have to lookout for the Korean players, if I don’t meet them early I will be able to finish at a high place.

-A word to your fans.
▶I am happy that many people showed concern and counted on me. Since I am really motivated I have changed my goal to number 1 in the world championship and will do my best. As there is lots of time left until the Grand Finals in October I will prepare calmly.

Thanks a lot for the translation. Great interviews Fighter forum asks really good questions. Specially liked the "weakness to protoss" question and saviors comments on how bisu's play stands out from the other protosses. Well he implied it at least.

hmm many questions on this, what does he mean by the seniors and juniors? does he mean older and younger players or stronger and weaker players? and what is squads 1+2?

By seniors and juniors he means the older and younger players.
Squads 1 & 2 are two squads on a pro team. Squad 1 consists of the best players in that team and only they get to go on televised matches in pro leagues. Squad 2 consists of new and upcoming players that play the role of practice partners. Periodically, squad 2 will have a tournament between its existing members and new faces to add players who are performing well and kick players who are performing poorly.

Maybe you're right but something tells me that these dudes realize the futility in trying to practice a game like Starcraft once you are physically exhausted. 24 hours would be pretty ridiculous towards the end of the day, 4-5 days straight is not really possible and wouldnt even be more effective than a full normal day of gaming with a clear mind.

You're saying straight, as in, without a break? If so, I highly doubt that any progamer could practice for more than 16 hours with getting extremely sloppy and forgetful.
