That's some proper awareness.

"I lost the first game because it was so early in the morning" - lmao TY

Guess he no longer prefers those early games. Doesn't bode well for Saturday's morning match when he's been up all night playing war chest team league

I wonder what his team captain would say to that

TY's analysis (of strategies and living life as a progamer) is always very interesting. I hope we keep seeing more and more of these translated videos. There's a mixture of really insightful things and then random and entertaining analysis about his mindset or something else.

And, let's be real, a good amount of TY's very own puzzling statements

1-1 vs Rogue in War Chest Team League today, including the ace win. Both were macro games, muta ling bane vs bio mine. Second game went late, ultras and widow mine drops respectively. I think TY might give a good finals if he gets past stats

Interesting how Tasteless/Artosis are jumping on and off TY's builds depending on results. Great early aggro game 1, then actually he is playing Stats series, aggro won't win and then great cheese ...

And I'm not sure they realised that he did 3CC in game 2 just like game 4. Great build choice vs Stats. That makes the G2 push completely different, more of a bungled engage with huge army supply then a poor strategic choice.

Strategically, I think TY was in a good position all 6 games. It was far from poor preparation in terms of builds that hurt him. Even micro/macro was fine. It was just that he was out positioned too many times, too indecisive at times and Stat's execution was just stronger. He lost 3/3 games when it went to the mid/late game without serious losses on both sides. I also think he had too much trouble engaging with the disruptors and colossus that Stats was utilising.

Game 5 16/17 probes was great but he had overcommitted. He talked about why PartinG's counter against that marauder build didn't work due to him still having the marauders alive and on that short map I think that's what I think he was talking about with what could go wrong. The early shield batteries led to some early losses and blunted the force of that timing. It might have snowballed with him getting more probes and escaping with more army if Stats hadn't have been so careful about his early defences. Perhaps it wasn't the right strategy vs Stats, but after the dust settled he would have been fine if only his tanks had have gotten one or two more shots off vs the deep orange colossi. He'd all but stabilised.

It's hard to tell exactly what happened in game 6 when he counter-attacked at one stage before he started being pulled apart by DTs, but if he had have gone through with his idea to drop in Stats main instead of unloading, the robo army was very out of position and I think recall was on cool down. Instead, he never shut down Stat's probes enough and he just didn't react soon enough to what Stats started to do with mass DTs. Maybe he had a timing earlier if he left as soon as the archons went down, before disruptors, but I'm not sure.

All credit to Stats. He played fantastically. I really hope he goes on to win it all. I don't think I can be too upset at what TY brought today. It was such a close series. I was pretty worried about TY's TvZ at the moment anyway in a BO7 series, so I'm not sure if he would have had it against Rogue, who was a clear favourite IMO as soon as he dealt with DRG. Going forward, I love TY's aggression in the past couple of seasons, which is helping him dictate the pace of a lot of games, but I'm not sure if he still has the same confidence in his late game. I'd like to see him try to transition into ultimate late-game armies after getting into favourable positions and turtle a bit more while dropping more regularly as well as a change-up play.

Sometimes things just go wrong. Like game 6 he probably just outright wins if his first double drop has stim but he didn't have it for like 20 more seconds. Without stim it couldn't do much except kill like 2 pylons. He had some great moments later in the game but usually when TY landed a punch Stats punched right back. Landing where he thought Stats would re-expand and not flying into the main was unfortunate in the end but he couldn't really know there's no nexus there.

In general it seems to me that TY tried to prepare builds for his opponent while Stats worked on mastering one specific style that's really powerful in the current meta. The bio timings with 1/1, tanks and vikings are increasingly popular and very powerful and Stats was super ready for them with his very fast 3 colossi into disruptors. Stats knew that if he doesn't outright die to such timings, his chances to win go through the roof.

This is something TY used to be infamous for. Harassing, harassing, harassing but then going for late game, never ending things and constantly letting his opponents come back into games that Maru or Inno would have ended in under 10 minutes. As fun as that was to watch he's been more successful since he stopped with that.

Definitely a relevant point and I agree that his style is way superior now (I think he has read what he needs to do to be better and he must be terribly hard to prepare against right now), but it used to be a very normal game for him and now it would be a point of difference. Once in a BO7 only. Maybe even mech into BCs or something. Stats was pulling him apart when he was trying to bring mid-late game aggression then. It might have led to a different style of game where Stats isn't as comfortable when forcing the aggression.

Of course, I wouldn't like him to default there if he does higher than expected damage with drops, but I don't see that against Stats, more a situation where his harass keeps Stats on his toes and gives TY time to be greedy and then sure up his defences with turret rings, PFs and full spread of sensor towers.

Just not his day. He really should have taken it 4-0, but his army movements and engagements wasn't there. Sometimes it was Stats who ran circles around TY, and when your opponent is better than you at what is one of your major strengths as a player, it's going to get tough. All credit to Stats who played a super sharp series, he made it very difficult for TY. I can understand why TY is not keen on going to late game - the army comp that Stats was using seems very difficult to beat for the Terran.

Still it's a shame TY couldn't play his best. I would like to blame the early time slot, the fact had he stayed up late to play team league, plus David Kim.

A lot of people are saying Terran is in a great spot with the meta ATM--and I do think that their early-mid game has stabilised vs Protoss very well and was always relatively stable against Zerg--but I'm not a huge fan of their late-game options vs either race. That's where he suffered. Because he was actually ahead so much of that series.

Things that worked before seem to have been figured out. It often feels like it takes a Terran playing out of their socks to take down a top tier Zerg or Protoss invested in a late game. Certainly, they can do it, but if they play a long set of elongated games (ie Bo7) then it is very hard work.

Late game Protoss players have figured out the power of disruptors and blink DTs (finally!) vs. T. It makes their main army so hard to engage and their harassment pretty diabolical. It kills more quickly than drops at lesser cost, with no mass recall shut down. I'm not sure what happened to double PF builds and even more so mass ranged liberators, but I think ghosts have been effected because now the Protoss can kite back after EMPs and Terran can't pursue safely with bio.

Zerg players, such as Serral and Reynor, have made Zerg look like such a complete race and just amazing to watch (when it's not a player you really care about on the other side). Lesser Zergs also look hard to stop at times.

While I say this, I do not mind the state of balance at all. I think that a lot of this is because Zerg and Protoss playstyles have evolved. I tend to think it will just take some new Terran builds and it can potentially swing back to them, but for right now I see why TY and any other Terran (Maru/Inno) included would struggle with a Stats playing at such a top tier level (it's a credit to him that he is often fantastic when the meta stabilises) right now.

I also think that TY at his best potentially defines the meta/shapes it to his style and that's why he's been consistently good for a long time. I'm looking forward to what he brings for the next GSL to compliment what he's done in the last two, since he's shown some pretty killer instinct and early build mastery.

In the end I think TY did a decent job in the team league group stage.

He went 6-4 but 2-0 in ace matches. His losses were against Reynor (on worse ping, a game that any Terran would struggle to win), Rogue (where he won the ace match afterwards), PartinG (the day before his match against Stats), and uThermal. The last one is the one that's really bad imo, but his team actually won anyway.

Hope he has a strong showing in the playoffs, especially since he has nothing else to play for at the moment.

TY and Benny and the Boys did great in the team league. Loved his build vs Solar. Great TvT mid game multitasking against Dream (far from perfect, but I can't think of another T who so consistently comes out on top in that kind of scrappy game with constant counters, doom drops, etc.). Good picks by DeMusilM, match up dynamics worked very well in playoffs in both sets and it's hard to argue that they weren't one of the strongest sides after the draft.

What I liked about the Solar build was that it was a different style of mech and it just reminds me that TY is such a creative player. If anyone will work out a sustainable mid-late game strategy vs top tier Zerg (Serral, Reynor, Dark, Rogue) then he will. I can't imagine he would be fun to play against atm, because his variety of early game gambits is really strong. Obviously, there's a few things he's still working on, but it gives me hope he can recapture his once brutal late-game play and be as complete and consistent as Serral/Reynor.

On a side note, I loved the team league because it featured so many foreigner vs Korean match ups and the gap is as close as it's ever been. I like these games because there are subtle differences in the meta depending on player/server and it's fun to watch TY play against a range of styles.

Finishing 4-0 in the last two days, with the clutch wins against Solar and Dream to prevent the ace matches, plus he was 2-0 in ace matches overall. I think Demuslim can be satisfied with his 2nd overall pick in the end.

Really enjoyed watching him play too. Submarine doesn't seem like TY's map in TvT but he brought it home in the end. The Solar game went very well after the blue flame gamble. At the time I thought he was crazy for switching into battle mech with 3-3 almost done but TY obviously knows best.

It's good to see that he is still strong. Seems we can look forward to the next Code S season, he should be a contender again, especially if Dark is still not playing his best (only one evil patchzerg to contend with).

TY's group in the season finals starts in an hour. Will be interesting to see how he approaches it this time. Will it be just another online tournament or will he give it a go? In any case, the games will be weird because of the cross server play.

Also, apparently Afreeca changed the rules in the GSL? TY will hold the top seed for Wednesday's group selections, as he has more GSL points than the defending champion. So he should be able to make a doable group for himself.
