Also kinda bothering me: TY doesn't think he can beat Serral in regular games, goes for 3 CC macro builds (with unfortunate incomplete scouting against Serral's non-standard build). Innovation realizes after 1 game that he's not gonna beat Solar in normal games and just cheeses him twice. I would have liked to see him at least try something.

Another thing I don't get is how TY can admire Serral and call him the best in the world and still not try to incorporate a crucial aspect of Serral's game into his own: prioritizing scouting. For a player with TY's style and strengths it should always be a great investment to do it.
Btw I'm pretty sure TY has a tendency to scan the natural rather than the main in TvZ. Noticing that must be what Serral's preparation amounted to for the first game. (tbh that preparation wasn't really worth much if TY just scouted).

Well doesn't really make sense to scan the natural when it's a base you can get units into. Meanwhile Serral was trying hard to deny him from getting into the main, which is usually a tell.
And yeah the extent to which TY plays blind is staggering. Like of course he's an amazing player, and most of the time he can tell from limited information what the opponent is doing. And it's not quite as easy to make sure you see everything as with overlord speed. Still, I'm sure Serral could also get most things right just by assumptions. But he rather makes sure he sees them. Just to be 100% on it.
You know... except... that one series... where he went 0-2 to Hurricane with no scouting, which doomed TY in the end.

Yeah, it's funny how Serral felt sure he'd manage Hurricane and TY easily. And he could easily have gone 0-4 in those if it wasn't for TY's lack of scouting.

Now he's gonna have to prepare for the ST (which is gonna happen eventually). But Zest round 1 is becoming an even less attractive prospect with Katowice in mind.
Let alone the fact that, if he beats Zest, he plays another Protoss immediately. And it doesn't get easier from then either.

Looking at it now, that upper ST bracket is pretty much as bad as it could be for TY. Not much to hang the hopes of another championship on.
More generally, the emphasis on micro in Terran metas for the last... well, couple of years... is just not lending much TY's strengths, even if he does put to much focus on that himself.

With how good Zest is looking atm the only thing on TY's side is preparation. But Zest is really good at that too and I reckon ST won't start for another week.

Basically. Not a single thing went TY's way, Zest was always multiple steps ahead of him and won pretty easily. Even when it looked like something might go his way TY couldn't make anything of it. Zest even read all the moves of TY that he didn't manage to scout.
Zest was basically playing his 2016 level peak PvT and TY was not up to it.

For posterity I suppose it should be mentioned that the games weren't really all that normal. In game 1 Zest went for a gateway proxy, then added a robo and 2 more gates and 4-gated the hell out of TY who saw the extra buildings too late. In game 2 TY's proxy got immediately found, all his harass was shut down for free and Zest A-moved him basically with chargelot/stalker/archon before TY had stim.
In game 3 Zest hid a Twilight on 1 base, then took the gold on Purity and Industry. TY scouted that immediately but couldn't do anything with the intel. He tried a drop but changed direction because his reaper forced a warp-in at the gold and stalkers killed the medivac. TY took his 3rd base on the island, Zest got storm. TY went for a doom drop in the main but it didn't do much (the gold base would have been exposed in the meantime but TY did nothing there), then Zest shut down the island base very easily. As TY tries to land at a normal 3rd, Zest moves in with his main army and breaks through. TY had a drop killing the gold base, maybe having those units home could have saved him but most likely not.

Shame about today’s games, although it is Super Tournament after all! Almost everything that could have gone wrong seemingly did today

Honestly Zest was just an insanely bad draw. He's in such good form and knows TY so well. Also TY's been looking sick against Zerg online recently, would have been nice if he got a Zerg.
TY 0-3 now in first-round ST matches against Protoss. Can only beat Protoss if he advances at least 1 round first. Rigged.
