Sign me up. Even though i was admittedly rooting for polt, after the finals i am still very impressed by the sheer strength and general resilience of stephano's playstyle. Amazing zerg player!~~

Stephano has the weakness i noticed when he played against top Korean terrans, he still have holes in his builds but because 95% of terrans he play cannot focus on that holes makes him not changing his builds. Mutalisk game he played from behind, he didnt scout 3rd CC and he was forcingly playing 2base muta vs 3 base terran, because Polt was not having a single turret it kinda made the game 50-50 but zerg cannot play 50-50 going into late game. Actually the scenario when Polt was on 1 mining base happened 2 times, and he won, because stephano didnt have surplus of remax, stephano droned at wrong time (to late), and he let polt get massive siege tank number, i believe stephano shouldnt play double upgrade baneling, if he gets baneling nest he should always get spire as the number of minerals and gas he will spend on banes will make his infestor based play into ultralisk(which he always preffer) weak.

Amazing games today!

I was realy surprised to see Muta/Bling/Sling from Stephano, he should do it more often :-)

even as stephano fan im not to dissapointed by the results, the games were extemely entertaining!
and you gotta hand it to polt, he played like a beast today.
Anyways, still + 6k to the bank

what i wonder though is why stephano didnt use broodlords more. I know he researched melee upgrades, and ultras are the logical follow up there, but although broodlords initial attack are ranged, the broodlings they shoot actually profit from melee upgrades, so shoudlnt that be a very viable choice as well?

Polt always had a mass army, I think Stephano never had the freedom to tech switch. Juste look when he tried it, polt's army attacked juste before broods and easy win.

Polt was too good, but thx for the amazing games stephano <3

Amazing games with Polt. Polt played supremely well and Stephano was able to get leads in basically every game, which leads me to believe that he has yet to his ceiling and that he will learn from this and come back even stronger. I thought Stephano played exceptionally well, in general. 4-1 does not reflect how close these games were. Awesome series and Stephano is still the man!

Totally agree with that. You could see ZvT was Stephano's worse matchup as he was unable to make the best decisions when he took the lead. Against protoss or zerg, he rarely if ever throws games away like that :-( Maybe it's because there is no terran of Polt's level with such resilience to train with in EU, maybe it's because he doesn't train enough vs Terran, but you can feel there is some room of improvement in his late game. His builds were excellent and he could have won games 3 4 5 after the midgame advantage, he is still excellent vs Terran, but he lacks the game instinct he has vs Protoss because he knows them so well.

Props to Polt to keep fighting back, his play was amazing and his use of marines and tanks so good. Deserved win, for sure, but I hope Stephano studies the replays and that there will be a revenge !

Bingo. There are Terrans and then there are Korean Terrans.

he should get a terran training partner, he plays vs blings / mana / adle / grubby, so a lot protoss, but I don't know any good terran he's training with..

Bingo. There are Terrans and then there are Korean Terrans.

You make it sound like they are invincible Tell Puma what he thinks of that, or even ask Polt if he thought he had a free road to the win in the finals. Stephano can beat them, he has already beaten some of them when ZvT was his best matchup, he just needs to practice against them more.

This guy should seriously try to join a korean team. He might be the only foreign player with the necessary skill.

Cliff abuse level infinity by Polt.

I feel like its my fault though, the only games I caught live were the finals Those were 5 tense games. If the muta switch in game 4 worked, and he had 2300 gas at one point in that game, I think things could have gone differently.

I don't know if I could have handled EVEN WATCHING the full 7 game series though. The ling/ultra/infestor strat is a nightmare to watch on these cliff and ramp heavy maps. Polt put on a tank spreading, cliff abusing clinic. He played amazing, but as a Stephano fan and zerg player it was excruciating to watch .

Stephano was afraid of committing to muta's when he needed it most. If his control with muta/ling/bling approached his control with ling/infestor he'd have cleaned up, game 4 and been on his way.... but somewhere in the tech to broodlord, he left a giant hole in his defense. Probably just a momentary lapse, but thats how tough the competition was on this day.

The highlight, was the Game 1 comeback where Ultra's could not be killed. Culminating in the first time in STARCRAFT history that a non Korean took over the international TLPD elo ratings.

Hopefully, not the last.

Go Stephano!

Agreed. He just needs to practice this match a little bit more against Polt level Terrans (Millenium please send him to Slayers' house just for a couple weeks) to know how to more optimally play out the late game.

As an aside, it's funny when MC left OGS people worried whether his level of play would drop because of a lack of practice partners, but Stephano has not been practicing his vT in custom games lately (playing almost exclusively vP because he likes it best), and thus only practices it in tournaments and on the EU ladder; any other player would be whining about how poor his preparation was to face someone like Polt, and it totally was. (Stephano won't whine so I will whine for him. Even so, his level of play is easily (I repeat for effect, easily) Code S level in the match up. A lot of his "bad" decisions were the result of Polt's being a total boss and Stephano's underestimating Polt's ability to compose himself and fight back despite being in a terrible position. If he'd been used to playing Polt level Terrans he would have played it different and likely won on Shakuras and Korhal.

I get the feeling Stephano wants to keep playing; this is very good news not just for his fans but for Starcraft II.
To be is to be the value of a bound variable.
