Note that they are just messing around. Idra and Genius used to be on the same BW team. Artosis has said many times that Idra and Genius get a long well and is one of the few Koreans that Idra is buddies with.
- Your thoughts on making the round of 16? I am really happy that I don’t have to go to the up and down matches. I’ve been there before and it’s not a place you want to be. So, I prepared hard for today’s matches.
- Did your mindset change after the up and down matches? Now, it’s become more that I want to keep being a progamer than completely winning the tournament. I enjoy showing my play on televised matches so in order to do that, it is important to me that I stay in code S.
- Your first opponent was LosirA. That put a bit of pressure on me. Since I’ve been in code S for a while, I wanted to show him how scary code S can be, therefore, I practiced a lot.
- What aspect of your play did you focus on? It was hard for me, but I was prepared to win through macro. Since I saw that he prepared to use infestors, I was a bit lucky.
- Your goal for this season? I want to make it to the finals.
- The meaning behind your ceremony? It is the ring I got for winning blizzcon. I wanted to show it off previously, and a blizzard staff member recommended it to me.
- Who do you want to face in the next round? Anyone except Marineking.
- Your biggest obstacle in reaching the finals? I thought it would be MC, but he’s gone. I feel like terrans are strong nowadays so if I don’t face a terran, I think I will have a good chance.
- Any last comments? Now, there are 4 MVP players left (in code A), I hope all of them can make the round of 16.
Winners of Group C Genius ‘I am regaining my confidence.’
- Your thoughts on advancing as 1st in your group? I feel like I am back in the open season. My confidence level is on the way up. I was sure that I would make the round of 16 today. I thought overall, it was easy.
- So you say you gained a lot of confidence? Yes, I have found my mojo. I don’t care who advances in group D.
- How did you prepare? I definitely practiced a lot. DongRaegu practices extremely hard. I practiced in response to his practice but I think he has slacked off a bit as of late. .
- People say your play is not fancy and usually ends in a straight up battle of strengths. I don’t feel like I won if I don’t win decisively. A macro-oriented play may be able to show more fancy maneuvers to get ahead, but winning through brute strength in a direct clash fits my style. I have tried to change a bit but it is difficult for me.
- Instead of using stalkers for defending medivac drops, you used zealots. I have learned from watching zergs. It is a similar thought to zerg defense to medivac harassment, like when they put zerglings underneath the drop. If you just put a couple of zealots underneath, it works the same way.
- Did you practice a lot for today’s matches? It wasn’t too much, but I did practice focusing on the 1st match. I used ladder matches to prepare for the other ones.
- Should we expect something from you this season? The round of 16 should be a challenge, but if I can get past that I have a chance at taking the tournament.
- Any last comments? I want to thank treefOu, and oxfOu for helping me practice. Tails said some stuff in his interview yesterday, but I think he should keep that to himself until he gets to code S (laugh).
Cool, Genius's style can be a little risky at times but I still think he's probably a top five Protoss. I kind of wish he stayed with ZeNEX though, seems like a much better team for him.
I've always liked Genius. Glad to see he has a fanclub now. I always felt so bad for him going out of tournaments from some sort of cheesy play. IdrA said something about him being really good but having nerve issues, so that's pretty understandable. His ceremonies are pretty awesome though, and he's shown that when he's on his game, he's a total beast. As much as seeing MVP fall to Code A was sad, I was also happy for Genius. The look on his face when he went out 0-2 this season was so heartbreaking
Sign me uppppp Love this dude. I wish he had more success. You see flashes of an unstoppable player, i hope he does well in TSL and next season of GSL =D
He's been my favourite Protoss for a long time. I'm sad that he always tries to play in an entertaining way and he got cheesed many times because of it.
Insane player when he's on top of his game and I'm glad that he seems to be playing more standard now, don't want him dropping off the map!
If MC is the current "Modern" God Protoss he is the Ancient GodProtoss, before MC showed how scary protoss can be, Genius was already saying that he would show how protoss was the stronger race. He was our only hope of a protoss hero back in the dark ages and he will be back to the top again. Original Protoss Hope Hwaiting!

i think you could consider him more of a prophet or something :p edit: i always love the totally smug smile on his face when he wins a game haha
Nice games by Genius vs Moon in the Starwars Tournament. Great use of Phoenix and void ray to get him back into the match after having his expansion destroyed.
hahahahaha! Yes! That Celebration where he pulled out the little clappers had me laughing for months! really excited to see how he and MVP do in the next GSTL
At BlizzCon 2010, Loner vs Genius was the first SC2 game I ever watched. The way he played Protoss amazed me, it made me want to buy the game and play Protoss. And of course, ever since then I've been a huge fan.
Holy shit. Genius and DRG partnership with CoL!!!! I am pretty sure they were both friends in BW also. Now we get to see them at more foreigner events!
Great play by Genius tonight. Finally someone beat 1-1-1. Cool to see Genius not only 4gating like everyone else. When that finally gets fixed he will be ahead of everyone ^.^
lol can some1 find the full clip of the whole interview, in the MVP vs Prime series, i remember being baked and cracking the hell up, with the shenanigens of the MVP players as their coach was being interviewed.
I wasn't around when Genius won the Blizzcon, so I always just saw a good, but average player... now people have to realize it's not just drg vs (insert any team here). I liked him before, now I can call myself a fan Sign me up.
Here's basically what happened: Blizzard was trying to remove some units from Protoss, and Genius was like: "No. These units shall stay. I decree it to be so."
So it was played be Genius, and so shall it be done.
hey guys i was just thinking.. wasnt it genius who did a ceremony early in GSL where he just a moved his army (because he clearly had already won) and started combing his hair in the meantime? if so, does anyone have a gif/vid ?
i rofled my ass off and he improved alot ! he was very good in the beginning and then he could not keep up but now... man he improved alot ! sign me up !
amazing PvT vs SC there, just like tasteless said that your play inspired him to go home and play starcraft, its all i wana do when i get off of work. Sick games, nice to see that you enjoy playing and have FUN while playing at the highest level. GL im hope you make it far this season!!

No I haven't. I have been busy lately, and I have made all the gifs so far. It would be great if someone else could help out. I need to update the gifs to another place that doesn't make you buy Pro. Also, I just added the Youtube video of it to the celebration section.

You can see he's really focused, I bet he wants to prove the world and MC that he's just not another protoss player. Kind of funny when MC thrash talked him and said to DRG he shouldn't lose to a player like Genius in Ro32 and now is down 0-2 against him. I think we're about to see Genius come back to his same form when he won Blizzcon.

wow source on that
It's in the SC2 General forum, topic called something like "Nestea, DRG, MC tweeting balance"
Don't sign me up yet. Still I want to praise Genius's performance this GSL. He challenged MC for the protoss throne. And depending on how he played today, he might be worthy.
Ok I've been a vocal critic of Genius over the past year. Right now he's playing at a level I've never seen before, but I want to see his performance in the Ro4. And if he manages to perform on that stage, then I'll know he's the real deal.
The best part about Genius winning? Is we get to see more of his games. I copy his builds/playstyles more than any other player out there, he really did name himself correctly.
Also he and I seem to share an undying love for voidrays.

what about how he played against drg and nestea earlier in code s?
i dont think you give him enough credit.

My criticism of Genius was always "Good, but inconsistent and never going deep in tournaments". Too many times has Genius looked great for a single match, a single series, then went back to mediocre. I don't expect TL's memory to run very deep, but this is not the first time that Genius performed exceptionally well and everyone was quick to hop on his bandwagon.
I don't really care if he wins or loses his Round of 4 match (obviously it would be wonderful if he did the former), but if he plays great and loses then I'll be convinced that Genius will stay a top dog.
LOL you mad that I'm not slobbering over his every achievement? Must be quite strange to see a rational fan.

Genius has been quite consistent since last season. When he blitzed through code A he showed that he was Code S material and now he's showing he's a contender. I think it's sufficient data to assume he is pretty good.

You aren't being rational.
Genius's record is 3-0 Win over MC, 2-3 win over MKP (lost 3 games but went through the group), 2-1 win over Nestea, 2-0 Win over SC, 2-0 Win over DRG. Wins over Boxer, Taeja, Cezanne, asd.
If thats not consistent I don't know what is. Only Alive has done better.
genius will have a tough time in ro4 against Alive, but that doesn't mean he isn't the best protoss in the world by far.

checked it out now, that wasn't trash talking, just MC joking a bit
It's funny, this guy plays Starcraft 2 while just fucking around having fun and manages to float around code S. Then he decides to realize his potential and take it serious, and starts dominating.
Reminds me of Van Wilder .
Always liked MVP players, they are prolly have the most potential out of any team.

Pretty hard road to the GSL finals, not exactly easy opponents anywhere. Now he just needs to beat DRG, which he beat before. I hope Genius knows DRG's style well and perhaps outsmart him. ^^
I remember back in the beta days and early days after release, he was a big player. Glad to see after a loooooooooooooong slump, he seems to be coming back.

Doesn't that scare you? X-D
We were all graced with the GSLs we had because Genius was kind enough to lie in passivity. o_o
"Graced," heh, we probably would have had some additionally amazingsuperawesomefinals instead of some of the finals we actually got. :-p
amazing play against alive, after that scouted stargate i had no idea how you were going to win that game....... and thats with the best voidray control out there, truely amazing, hope you win GSL the season!!
Very interested in his play, however I think DRG is the new king of ZvP as well as ZvZ... and as well as ZvT. Looking very forward to the finals. Sign me Up!
Sign me up, playing his Phoenix + colossi lategame combo since he invented it (at around first blizzcon with sc2 in it) with and extremely high win ratio against terran
Still a lot he can improve on (specifically in micro and decision making) but his build orders and macro were usually great. I hope he works on his weaknesses and gives us the Genius we know he can be!
Good games Genius! You had some entertaining and powerful builds, and even the two first games that you lost I think you could have won if you just stopped scouting with your phoenixes (with the carrier build on Entombed Valley) and controlled your voidrays and phoenixes better (with the proxy stargates on Antiga Shipyard).
Too bad, but I'm sure you can advance to the finals again some day, and even win.
With better execution I feel he could won the whole series, got a little unlucky sometimes that cost him some. Going carrier also would had been excellent if it wasnt for those drops. :/
ok, can someone inform me as to why genius has a bad relationship with his team? i didnt see him at the MVP GSTL booth even (haven't watched the whole yet, though). that is if the situation is even known, but I don't understand why he would have such a bad relationship (it's been mentioned a few times here and there).

If you read the Ro32 Group B Preview they wrote that Genius took that loss against DRG very hard, which possibly explains why he wasn't attending at the GSTL.
If he wins 2-0 against SuperNoVa now he makes it through to ro16
Genius! I'm sad he wasn't able to bring MVP back and send them to Vegas ): Here's hoping he can make another run to the finals, and maybe win it this time!
Sign me up! I honestly never knew Genius had a fan club page I've been a fan of his for a long time - even last year when he wasn't really known as a top Protoss. Sign me up!
I think he should join up with complexity. Col has been really great about sending their new koreans all over the place and would lve to see genius join them. Plus he can help Killer get back into shape hopfully.
yeah i know, genius is the definition of "not consistant", but he stayed in gsl for quite a while now, didnt he? longer than any other protoss maybe even?

Genius has been in GSL since the very beginning, and in Code S every season but 1 (November)
Got that from his recent match vs IM Happy. Genius has definitely been consistent and always a top Protoss - but he never really got the spotlight being on MVP with players like DRG, SC, Keen etc. I'll be interested to see what team he goes to - I think it would be crazy to see him on another Korean team like Slayers. Slayers has Puzzle and Alicia but no other really powerful protoss players. I won't be surprised if he is waiting for a foreign team though - so many players want to travel to international events for the $$ and to play in front of the fans
Slayers has more than enough good protoss players. Slayers' kinda more of a Protoss team than Terran team, like it was before. Slayers need Zergs. I'm expecting Genius to go in a foreign team before GSL RO8 starts. EDIT: besides. Genius said he wants to go to overseas tournaments and a better salary, and he's so much of a lazy player that it doesn't matter which team he goes in, it won't affect his skill level.

Well Slayers has Coca back plus a bunch of newer zergs like Mia and Min, and Yugioh was just in Code S but is back down in Code A. They could definitely use a top notch Zerg, I will be happy to see Coca back in top shape though like he was last year at MLG Raleigh
Genius really needs to learn English. His lack of communication to Foreign Fans is really holding him back from becoming extremely popular outside of Korea.
Fnatic might be a good choice for Genius. Foreign team doing well in GSTL, and they could use more Protoss muscle since Oz is their only Code S level Protoss IIRC.
Genius vs Naniwa in the round of 16 Wednesday! It's going to be a tough match but I think Genius can take it - and if he can beat Naniwa he has a really good chance of going 0-2 in the group. Go Genius!
How is this guy still teamless, it's been a month from his release from MVP and still nothing.
It's funny to me how people are saying MMA is the biggest free agent (even tho it's still not official) when there is a recent finalist and as huge personality out there right now.
When I think about it, I think EG might pick him up now, since they got a new title sponsor. I personally would like him to join a team like TL or Mouz, but I think EG might just be what he's looking for.
Anyway, Genious is an awesome player and seems like a really cool dude, hopefully he get's a team soon and continues to play the game!
It would have been great to see Genius on TL I'm not sure why people don't like Genius' attitude or why he wouldn't fit in with TL. Genius' antics and attitude make him unqiue, and make it enjoyable to watch him play. His skill cannot be denied, and the fact that he has personality is something I think more players need. If everyone were to walk around like robots life obviously wouldn't be very exciting. I hope Genius can find a team soon, because he will be a huge addition to any team with how good he is and his consistency to stay at a high level especially in the GSL
I really wonder what team he will end up on... I get the feeling he wants a foreign team, but not just any. Probably one of the big ones (he did contact Liquid after all). Maybe complexity (they do have a pimp new house) or EG... or even Empire or Millenium. So sad Liquid turned him down. Would have been a huge plus for Liquid.

I hope he will go to some MLG arenas or events. He is so good but rarely goes to events outside of Korea. He would have so many fans at foreign events, and would be in high contention to win some big events

He has been mentioned briefly but only to say he's been defending Jessica on the Korean forums. I don't think he's really been on the team long enough to be caught up in the worst of it. Hopefully he stays a SC2 pro and can find another team
After I just started watching GSL consistently, I saw Genius play against a terran player and ended up winning while doing a celebratory dance with his stalkers. After that instant, I knew that he was my favorite player. Then he played against DRG and after he won, he would run to the other booth and do a celebration. Along with his sick protoss plays he is who I look to when I want to learn to play better. I'm disappointed he didn't make it to code S this season but hopefully he'll be back soon!
So cool to see him back. I always liked his interviews because he's often right with his predictions about balance, I can't see him being wrong about this one either. I hope he'll go to a good team, gl gl
Congrats on doing so well this season Genius!! I've been waiting for so long for him to make it far into a tournament again. I always enjoy watching his play!
My fans thank you very much but sorry maybe i retire
Hope he doesn't. He didn't have a bad showing today, but I can see how being teamless for so long might be demoralizing. Hope he is just frustrated and venting and not actually considering retirement.
Well, this is kinda unexpected. I see the possible reasoning behind it being teamless for so long and maybe he didn't even receive any offers. I really think he is an entertaining guy who will be missed pretty much if he retires... hope EG picks him up. EG.Genius... pretty fitting
Genius was streaming SC2?! Really?! Wow, someone of his caliber returning to the pro SC2 scene would really be huge! I hope it's true! I remember how boss he was back in 2013 and got to watch him play live in Toronto, I believe it was the WCS season 3 finals that Dear ended up taking... none the less, Genius was one of the few Toss players that could pull off crazy stuff kinda like sOs which really no other Toss seem to manage these days! <3
