There were group play aswell, he went 2-1 in his group which was won by White-Ra. The other players were PsY and Janook (who?). He did beat Machine 3-2 for 3rd place and knocked out Fenix (a very accomplished player), tho just barely, in the first bracket round. Overall its not that impressive, sc2 is random enough for "lesser" players to win a few bo5, but you underrate his 3rd place in that tourney, he still beat some great players.

2nd place in the Root Challenge invitational:
First, when you participate in a tournament hosted by your own team, your win is less impressive than otherwise, considering many of the people invited are your teammates. The player list was quite mediocre in addition with only a few high caliber players. To get 2nd place, he mostly won against people who have accomplished nothing in sc2 other than winning a 100 dollar weekly tournament once. The only exception for this is beating qxc, who many considered overrated after seeing him go 0-6 in NASL, 0-10 at IEM and losing in many other tournaments.
First place in the Root Invitational.
This is his only slightly impressive result. But if you actually look at the matches he played, the only people he played were people on ROOT at the time, or previously part of ROOT excluding stalife. So essentially, he can beat his teammates, who he plays with often and knows their strategies. I don't think that's a good indicator of skill because games against people you don't practice with are very different from games with your teammates. For example, Haypro winning the only-teamliquid tournament isn't very impressive as it only contains other liquid players. Admittedly, you could say that the reason he only fought ROOT players was because root players were the best in the tournament, but I don't really know if that's accurate considering the lack of major results from any players other than kiwikaki how do you explain the top 100 ELO ranking then, and the match results that are greater than 50% for all matchups? that's pretty shiny too.
For a pro-gamer, top 100 ELO isn't impressive at all.
Furthermore, TL's ELO system does not give a good representation of players. Lets look at the top 100.
Many players at the top, such as ), elfi(10), princess(14ish), bigs(37ish), Kalin(45ish), have no significant achievements other than winning weekly cups with mediocre players. The ELO system gives too much credit to these relatively meaningless wins. There are retired players and players who have played 1-2 tiny tournaments with higher ELO rankings than drewbie. Claiming that being top 100 ELO is a big achievement is simply wrong considering the number of mediocre players ahead of drewbie in the TLPD (bigs, kalin, deathangel, edge, insolence, envious, syz, vortix, joe, fan, super, lucifron, tefel, sungpa, meyera, yen, jazbas, rikytan + others).
and you're entirely wrong on his match win% ratio being good. his record is 57-53 and 13-18 in PvP. So not only does he have a negative win% ratio in one matchup, but his overall win% ratio is pretty dismal for the amount of games he has played against mediocre players.

It was good to know that they definitely acknowledged that it was a problem in a large part of tournament matches. And since earlygame scouting will keep being problematic I'd think there was some changes coming with hots.

My god minigun abused forcefields to the max. I was watching and cringing at every second. Idra was going out and forcing forcefields, losing maybe 1-2 units. Minigun throwing out like 12 force fields every engage, and still had enough to rape Idra by like the 4th engage. I suppose burrow could have been an option, but doing the roach ling all in, you don't get lair that soon. Makes me sad. Idra can't beat forcefields, how will i? I was hoping he'd show me tonight.

Such a good stream tonight. Ended up watching both IdrA and Destiny duke it out while sacrificing sleep in the process. xD. Pretty funny that Destiny ended up beating Minigun while IdrA going 0-3. :p

The P>>Z thing is a thing of the past lol. Zergs have been finding ways to beat Protoss, and in NASL ZvP is actually 55% in favor of zerg. Idra's strengths are his multitasking, mechanics, and drone timings. That being said, he's always had a habit of microing poorly and engaging in bad positions, and those games were no exception. Also you could always get roach burrow to deal with forcefields so I don't see the "I can't do anything about it" having too much validity.

He didnt change when times were tough, now that he (and others zergs) actually win, there's no way he's ever going to.

If you get roach burrow against sentry/mass blink stalker you die.
Typhon is a terrible map tbh, IdrA can't engage properly anywhere except right at his natural, at Miniguns or in the middle.
What I think Zerg needs tbh is Hydra speed upgrade. If you go and attack off creep with them you have no option to retreat, which is just retarded.
