KARA will be making their acting debuts next year through a reality show called “URAKARA” on Japan’s TV Tokyo 24.
“URAKARA” is a ‘dating mission drama’, in which the girls are given missions involving both virtual and reality dating. The show plans to reveal the different sides of the members, while delighting viewers with their innocence on the subject of love.
Sankei Sports revealed, “The members will be using both Japanese and Korean in their script. Filming will take place in both countries as well. They’re able to converse comfortably in Japanese, but they’ll be studying the language more intensively in order to express a broader variety of emotions. They’re excited, but are also nervous.”
I have a feeling that Kara's going to spend most of their time in Japan in the future. They're selling really well, (140,000 albums sold in Japan during the 2 week after Girl's Talk was released, 105k Girl's Talk and 35k Jumping single. Jumping was released a month ago). Quite surprisingly, they haven't even won #1 in Korea yet.
I was hoping that Kara would stay in Korea, but if Koreans don't support Kara as much as the other girl groups that debuted in 2007, then I would see why they'll want to enter the Japanese market.

A question for fluent Korean speakers...How well spoken are idol members in general and compared to American celebrities? For example, does anyone in SNSD stand out as being quite smart or somewhat of an airhead.

snsd stands out as being airheads in fact most idols are.

SeoHyun is abit geeky though judging by the news and all, her role model is Ban Ki Moon

Sure there are exceptions but I think someone's ability to communicate is a pretty revealing about how intellectual they are. I figured it was pretty self-explanatory?
I think someone's ability to communicate reveals only one thing and that is their ability to communicate. Okay maybe you need some baseline intelligence to be able to communicate well but for the most part don't really see the relationship between them. For example on variety shows, Narsha, Soyeon, and Eunjung (just the ones on my mind) are articulate but I wouldn't say they are smart or anything. Just good with social situations. Actually I can't think of any idol who is well spoken that I would consider intelligent.
Onew from shinee used to say he was ranked 1st in his classes but on variety shows he seems rather awkward. And what someone else said how iu said she was top in her classes and she isn't what I would say well spoken.
But I would say most of the idols are rather awkward when they aren't singing or dancing on stage. They missed a lot trying to become where they are now. You always hear them saying how they would miss school and the times they did go to classes they would sleep for the morning classes and then leave again.

I agree with you to some extent. There are people who are crazy smart but are super awkward. Then some people are flat out dumb but get along just fine if they are a "people person". And I'm sure idols are given serious PR training to compensate for their lack of everyday interaction you mentioned.
But by and large the average person's communication is directly correlated to their cognitive abilities. At least when I hear people speak in English or Spanish I can tell pretty easily. The Korean language might be different depending on its structure or rules...idk.

That's all an act. She goes to a mediocre college and is a theater/drama major, not an airhead, but not smart either.
The smartest Kpop star is definitely Kim Jung Hoon, he was in SNU studying Dentistry, and graduated almost first in his class in HS.
In terms of Korean entertainment in general, I'd say Kim Tae Hee (also SNU) is up there.
Most idols are "dumb", then again, why should they study useless crap if all they do is dance and sing anyway?
